Good movie to give some basic idea of reality. The graphics of the moving train with the outside observer seems messy to me. I've seen this phenomena explained in other movies and when corectly animated it makes a lot of sense. But here I've got lost even having an idea what this experiment shows.

I met Dirac in person years ago. He gave a speech already in his 90's. Glad he is brought in here. I looked him up and since it was 1968 in Florida he was not that old. I was 20 so he seemed much older to me. Now I am old!

The Heisenberg Uncertainty explanation has long been debunked. What you're talking about with time-energy Uncertainty principle is 1. a very poorly defined concept because there is no Time Operator to begin with, and 2. a leftover mess from perturbation theory, at best, which is a mathematical trick, not some deeper, physical concept. This is not a "key example" of QM or its complexity, it's just a very bad explanation of a mathematical trick. The real reason for Hawking radiation (and the only reason): the curvature of space affects creation/annihilation operators in quantum field theory. Saying anything else is just wrong, and this misinformation has been spread for decades - even Hawking himself regretted this analogy. And only this curvature idea matches with the Unruh effect - which is the acceleration equivalent of Hawking radiation, i.e. an accelerating observer sees a thermal bath of particles in a vacuum. In GR, acceleration and curvature of spacetime are the same thing, so Quantum Fields for an accelerating observer should behave the same way as in a curved spacetime, i.e. radiation.

Seems unlikely inflation stopped. Seems likely there are other universes spawned from the inflationary field. But seems unlikely that quantum forces playing out over billions of years could result in parallel universes with shared histories. That would be possible if they shared the same instant and were part of the same wave function like Everett suggested. This seems more probable, pun?, to me. now. I can see why Sean Carroll takes this view.

it is very misleading to say it only takes 3 numbers to describe a black hole after discussing the surface of the moon. the correct answer to this little riddle is actually the number of plank sized units of area that can be contained on the surface of the horizon, like a projection, each of which being 1 bit of information
@eric9000k
@eric9000k 8 сағат бұрын
actually it follows from this im pretty sure w.r.t the information paradox that any object can be defined by the number of bits contained on the surface of a black hole with the same mass

The Electric Charge (Q) Of A Black Hole (Or Any Object, For That Matter) Can Be Expressed As: Q = n × e Where: ● Q = Electric Charge (In Coulombs, C) ● n = Number Of Excess Electrons (Negative Charge) Or Protons (Positive Charge) ● e = Elementary Charge (1.602 × 10^−19) C Explanation: ● If n > 0: The Black Hole Has A Net Positive Charge Because There Are More Protons Than Electrons. ● If n < 0: The Black Hole Has A Net Negative Charge Because There Are More Electrons Than Protons. In The Context Of Black Holes: ● The Electric Charge Q Contributes To The Reissner-Nordström Metric For Charged Black Holes, Affecting Their Spacetime Geometry. ● Most Astrophysical Black Holes Are Expected To Have A Negligible Net Charge Because Any Significant Charge Would Quickly Attract Opposite Charges From The Surrounding Environment, Neutralizing It. The Earth On The Other Hand, Has A Negative Surface Charge And Is Surrounded By A Positively Charged Ionosphere. 1. Earth's Net Charge ● On A Global Scale, The Earth Has An Equal Number Of Protons And Electrons, Making It Electrically Neutral Overall. ● Any Significant Net Charge Would Cause The Earth To Attract Or Repel Charged Particles From The Surrounding Environment, Quickly Neutralizing It. 2. Earth's Surface Charge ● The Earth's Surface Carries A Small Negative Charge. This Is Due To Processes Such As: ● The Separation Of Charges In The Atmosphere. ● Lightning Discharges. ● Movement Of Ions In The Earth's Environment. ● The Total Negative Charge On The Earth's Surface Is Approximately: Q(earth) ≈ -5 ×10^5 Coulombs (C) 3. The Global Electric Circuit ● The Earth Is Surrounded By An Electrically Conducting Atmosphere, With A Positively Charged Ionosphere About 50-1,000 km Above The Surface. ● This Forms A Global Electric Circuit, Maintained By Processes Such As Thunderstorms And Lightning, Which Transfer Charge Between The Earth's Surface And The Ionosphere. 4. Why Does The Earth Stay Charged? ● The Earth's Surface Charge And The Ionosphere Create A Potential Difference Of About 200,000 - 300,000 Volts. ● This Electric Field Is Maintained By Atmospheric Currents And Charged Particle Interactions, Such As Cosmic Rays And Solar Wind. The Earth Is Electrically Neutral Overall, But It Has A Negative Surface Charge Of Approximately -5 ×10^5 C. This Charge Plays A Key Role In Earth's Global Electric Circuit And Interactions With The Surrounding Space Environment.
