Obligatory Flesh and Blood shill, but I don't want to shove it in your face. Most of my local FaB players were MtG players who just weren't getting that itch scratched by Magic anymore, and at this point it feels like WotC is going beyond not scratching an itch and more blatantly disregarding their playerbase's wants and needs to stay engaged. New game is good, has continuing faith in their own world and independent ideas, and to many just feels like a better game system overall. Can't recommend my favorite game enough.

Holy crap, standard needs to go back to block sets, thats a ridiculous amount of standard legal sets

As far as bringing in new players, Wizards simply needs to bring back deck builders toolkits for $20-25. Theres no better way to get new players into the game than a decent amout of cards to work with from the past few sets so that they get a feel for the game and have the fun of opening packs and building decks at a reasonably price. I used to buy they for my friends or to make decks for my friends, which is much better than buying prebuilt decks that they may not like at all. The product fatigue is insane, and people dont have the money to just drain on cards Also, it wouldnt be hard for them to make an anime for MTG, which we've seen a bit of in the return to Kamigawa trailer. That would bring in so many new people, and they could sell tons of products off that.

First time catching one of your videos. Magic player of 20 years. These announcements hit me the same way. Do I want to continue investing? Not really... looking for an alternative atm. Universes just is not for me.

This ban is why i haven't touched the game since. I also dont plan to give lizards on the toast any more money until its fixed and im prepared to print my own shit if i decide to come back. Ruin 250 of my money, youre never getting a red cent again

I agree very much. I started playing in the 90's and fell in love with the flavor of the lore in revised edition and ice age. And even though they were underpowered, I have a lot of love for fallen empires, homelands and alliances. I'm especially uninterested in marvel superheroes, however, and the thought that they have now invaded magic is very sad to me. And also, the meme sets are so tiring.

It's just enshittification. They don't care about the game anymore, just pleasing Hasbro and the investors. Luckily I quit back in Lorwyn and never looked back. Definitely see how some of my friends are playing it and aren't really enjoying it, but just like someone addicted to League of Legends they can't bring themselves to eat the sunken cost fallacy of all cards they've spent time to acquire, etc. There is a bit of a silver lining in that if the game sucks people can still make up their own formats (commander) and still have fun with the game and Wizards can't really stop them from doing it(although Wizards will try to ruin that too with crap like Dockside, etc.) Another problem that never gets brought up, but worth mentioning is if you look at WOTC glassdoor for MTG it's pretty horrific. They use the fact it's a "dream job" against everyone who works there, and they pay them beans which just leads to more mediocre design and poor management. 15:55 They aren't motivated by "Capitalism" by rather by self-interest. Saying it's Capitalism is just initial hindrance as you could remove Capitalism from the equation and they would still act in their own self interest just like anyone else. I do agree they don't care about anything other than money at this point. Definition of Woke: "An aggressive push for diversity/equity/inclusion, usually based on the belief that outcomes which lack these things are indicative of discrimination and/or unfair social treatment." Magic is woke sometimes. Race swapping Aragorn to be black for no reason other than to virtue signal is a form of wokeness, because they did it because they view black people as lower on the progressive stack(aka Maoist victim hierarchy) and they would of never race swapped him to be Chinese or Indian since they are higher on the progressive stack. It's all stupid nonsense since it's all based on the Equity Fallacy and Maoist victim hierarchy shenanigans. (Ultimately it's just racism disguised as anti-racism. _(Perhaps we should finally get rid of Disparate Impact Theory hmmm?)_

Very interesting. I personally haven’t got an issue with Universes Beyond, love what you love, but yes, I also believe there is some sort of segregation and a lot of the time people buying these cards probably won’t touch the MTG main universe stuff. And of course Wizards don’t care, they just want the money. I’m not sure if the news was out when you guys discussed this, but they also announced that 50% of their output next year will be Universes Beyond and I’m not keen on that at all. You’re going to see fewer and fewer cards that are actually set in the Magic world. And that kinda sucks. I also wouldn’t be surprised if gets even higher and we see less and less original stuff and it’s all other IPs instead making it as you said, Matt, very, very Funko…

totally agree with your video. I'm switching to Limited, which are Cube, DanDan, Wizard Tower, Battlebox, etc. They keep MTG as what I love about it

Ive been a magic player since the early 2000s Stopped from ravnica through early og zendikar block And kept playing all the way till now And im going on another hiatus for a number of reasons Number one is generally money I cant afford to buy product, namely the cheapest boxes being way too expensive for me to afford And not worth the money, namely ever Im aware of the just by singles then mindset, which Just takes away nearly all the fun of playing and collecting Not to mention the cards i would need cost more than i would ever want to pay for single cards. For reference i play mono green tron in modern. And one of the big factors in my decision was ugin's labyrinths I did not pull a single one after selling a good number of cards to afford to buy a number of collector boxes, 2 play boxes and various packs of modern horizons 3 Again, ik the just buy singles argument. And at the time i wouldve had to spend about 150$+ to get a base rarity playset Which I was not going to spend, i didnt know anyone really who had tradable copies and i bought one copy from an lgs near me which was the only copy a store near me had Thankfully i had already pulled the other eldrazi cards i needed for the most part But after that set Id come to realize i basically couldnt afford to buy magic boxes anymore Without basically selling several cards every set which, the value from pulls was simply not there. The odds of pulling anything of notable value each set was arguably nil, so. Given the other games i had a favor for. In this case one piece and union arena that i namely play currently, and weiss schwarz which i love to collect Ive stopped buying and playing magic all together for the time being. Also for reference a box of any upcoming box of weiss schwarz is 50$, union arena is 60-70$ and one piece is roughly 100. And then my other main reason i simply i don tlike the feel of magic right now. My favorite set in the last few years was certainly neon dynasty for the cyberpunk aesthetic But i am absolutely not looking forward to a single universes beyond set, and im not even a stictly fantasy fan, i hate the clashing tones of the series' and story itself The lore isnt there for me anymore I dont care about any character in the story after march of the machines ending I didnt dislike the story, i generally liked it But i hated the tonal shift after Every following set felt like a joke and completely unserious in general. I was looking forward to duskmorn until realizing the entire set was just 80's and 90s horror tropes and style and about as serious and enthralling as the average marvel movie nowadays It isnt horror themed Its spooky cheese themed It completely killed my excitement Theres other reasons but those are probably the bighest two and i just wanted to rant a little Also enjoyed the vid

This would have never been an issue if Wizards had made Universes Beyond cards silver bordered or some equivalent, from the get go. Then they could have created new formats in which these cards could be played with alongside all other MTG sets. That way none of the existing formats would have been violated and all the new UB products would have their own special place.

Have you ever considered just keeping a cube after you quit and eventually sell a lot of stuff? So you have at least a way to play Magic without needing to update stuff.

Commander is the introduction for new players, its rule zero is literally "have fun". Standard is a format that is supposed to observe the newest additions to magic, there doesn't need to be an onboarding process. A player that likes their favorite cards in commander, and wants to try standard can buy a starter standard deck.

Tbh this video made me feel seen. I have been feeling like this for over a year now with the greed of billion dollar corporations seeping into every crevice of the thing I once loved twisting it into a disgusting profit machine.

I took a several year break from MTG, I can't stand much of the art now. I miss the days of gritty, pulp fantasy. Every other card is some kind cute animal being quirky and snarky while doing backflips off their kooky vehicle with a encyclopedia of keywords that are just redos of old keywords. Can't wait for the eventual Barbie set.

The best part is that many were gaslighting the people who were upset about UB, product fatigue, arena monetization, and the dilution of the IP in general.

I think I'm gonna just straight up refuse to play against players who play with UB cards at this rate, or at least ones that straight up do not vibe with what Magic is meant to be. I don't want to dislike UB, but it's gotten to the point that it's become more invasive than a neat little novelty for those who are interested. It sucks, because the D&D and even LotR stuff I think can still kinda work and fit in, being fantasy focused, and the Fallout stuff is more up my alley, but that's because I like Fallout, but I'm getting real sick of seeing non Magic focused commanders are Friday Night Commander. It really is a shame though. A guy I know has a deck focused around Mr House, and it's literally just dice rolls, and it's the funniest thing ever, even if it's a ballache for me to play against. I wanted to try making something like that too, but if I'm gonna commit to not using UB cards altogether, I just can't dot that anymore. WotC could've made it work in their favour and not have it be intrusive as it is nowadays, but they want to have the cake and eat it too, and that isn't working, or at least to me it's a terrible idea.

Spider-Man has a lot to make a full set. and yes, this includes making multiple Spider-Men. Has nothing even to do with the multiverse. One of Spideys biggest stories was "The clone saga", in which a villain cloned spider-man, with 1-2 clones becoming their own characters, and one of them even becoming the official second Spider-Man in the comics (Ben Reilly, AKA Scarlet-Spider). The TCG versus system for example had a similar stipulation like commander where you could for example only have 1 version of a certain character on the board. However, they released a "Scarlet Spider" who could remove that limit and allow you to run a fully board of different Spider-Men cards. and with how commander has taken over the game you can tell this feels like a gimmick they'd want to repeat here.

How the heck can you make an 80s horror set and not include Phantasm or Hellraiser?
