21:26... Take those goofy mufflers off that engine. It doesn't sound like anything, and it SHOULD.. 🤷🏻

1:02:22... Those Lanz Bulldog tractors always give me a chuckle. You pull off the steering wheel and half of the steering shaft, then jam it into the flywheel of the engine and use it to manually crank the engine to get it started. The things had so much compression that it was impossible for a person to be able to crank the engine past TDC, so the operator had to rock the engine back and forth between the compression strokes, get it bouncing back and forth, and know when to really give 'er hell on the last crank, in the opposite direction that you want the engine to run, and HOPE that it fires off of that bounce and not the next one, or else the engine will be running in reverse. If that happens, you will have several reverse gears, and only one forward gear. You'd have to shut the engine off, and then try again to get it started in the proper direction. Some owners knew their machine well enough, and could get the engine to change directions by shutting the engine off, and when it's just coasting down and almost to a stop, they would turn the fuel back on during that last bounce and the engine would start back up in the other direction. Ive ALSO seen it where the engine is actually RUNNING, but at ZERO RPM's.... the engine woukd actually fire, but not strong enough to make it over the compression hump, and it would just sit there and keep doing a half a revolution back and forth, and never complete a full 360° turn.. lol

1:00:38... Ah, the Shockwave. I've seen this truck run many times at my local dragstrip. It's pretty DARN fast for a huge Semi. One time, while it was warming up and blowing huge flames out the back of it behind the starting line, it lit the staircase and bridge that goes over the track to the other side of it on fire...🔥 The track officials just let it burn until the truck was done with it's show, and made it's pass down the strip. It was ok, the staircase and bridge going across the strip is made of mostly metal, it just had wood sides to cover up the metal work, and have a large surface for sponser advertising, and it was the ply-wood that was burning. Was a hell of a show tho... and .any spectators were completely concerned about the fire. It was blazing pretty tall.. 😂

39:14... NO. It's NOT "air cooled". i IS the giant water tank on the front of it, and the associated piping going to the head of the engine NOT obvious??

I feel like those jet trucks would be really expensive to run. Gotta put up a new giant sign and repave the race track every time you run it.

They all sound like crap on the ground, until you hear a low-pass fly-by of a Messerschmitt Bf-109 supercharged, 35,7 liter fuel injected inverted V-12 fighter or the Allies Merlin powered fighter aircraft!

Freud gave an explanation for grown men that "like big engines"... 🤣🤣🤣
@KatManx2006

Freud often "sized men up" before with a downward glance before looking them in the eye... he routinely confused casual, out of context observations with research, expounded on pure conjecture that could not either be tested or duplicated other than by asking the original subject the same questions and hoping he gave the same answer. He feared machines had an intimate craving for big cigars.... His car-phalus analogy came about because of his own "shortcomings" due to surgery....

As a German myself, I absolutely adore the Brutus experimental "car" (death trap). It's the pinnacle of mad German engineering. The way the car irratically starts up, the sound, the power, the danger of trying to tame the beast as you race down the road. It's beautiful. I never owned anything other than a bicycle myself, but if I ever get a motorized vehicle, then I NEED something, like this!

I absolutely loved this compilation of Fairbanks Morse engines! The sound quality really captures the essence of these powerful machines. It’s fascinating how the sounds can evoke such strong feelings and memories, especially for those of us who appreciate industrial history. However, I wonder if the loudness of these engines is a detriment to their legacy. Are we glorifying the noise without considering the impact on the environment and communities nearby? It’s a double-edged sword-while the sound is exhilarating, it also reminds us of the heavy machinery that shaped our industrial landscape. What do others think about the balance between nostalgia and environmental responsibility?

This is the coolest thing I've seen in a very long time. I have tagged my uncles and cousins all who will appreciate the hard work and dedication. Keeps to keep engines like these up and running just remarkable. Absolutely amazing to see. Sometimes you see this stuff in black-and-white film that you never get to hear it because it's silent. This is really something and you can imagine a giant belt being on that wheel, turning some huge loom, it's really neat to think about.
