I do a somewhat similar drill with a volleyball though it's focused more on how to feel when someone is driving forward and get out of the way while maintaining pressure and movement towards the center.

Fedor uses this in his fights. He uses that to get on a dominant angle of attack and devastate his opponents and get in good clinch position

Great instruction as always! Can you give some advice on how to defend shirt grabs, takedowns and stuff like that? And how to beat a wrestler? I did a boxing only for now, and im afraid of going to the ground in streetfight
@BareFisted

I'll have to make a few videos on these subjects. In the mean time you should learn how to fight on the ground and how to get back up, nothing fancy just basic ways or options on dealing with the ground.

Interesting video on how to throw powerful elbows. What are thoughts on following through with an elbow on the same arm your a punch? Like landing a horizontal elbow off a hook or vertical elbow off an uppercut? Is it a viable strategy and are there any other considerations
@BareFisted
@BareFisted 10 жыл бұрын
If you are not balanced as you throw your elbow, your follow thru can destabilize you and open you up for a counter attack if you miss. Throwing elbows and punches on the same side works great provided you train them properly.

If you're sparring or sport fighting, look at his solar plexus. If you're in a streetfight, look to where you want to hit your opponent, remember it's only 8-10 seconds of offensive fighting.

I have seen other video of people saying this is the correct way to hold a fist but every time I hit a heavy bag like that, the tip of my fingers move out of position. Am I doing something wrong? I also find it very stressful on the fingers, I don't know if its because my fingers are longer then most but I do not apply any pressure until actual contact.
@BareFisted
@BareFisted 10 жыл бұрын
Hey Jay, try sliding into a fist instead of rolling into a fist. The video shows you how to do it (2:00) This gives you something to grab onto and works best for longer fingers. Also when you strike the bag use the back knuckles to hit with not the middle knuckles, those cause your fingers to smash up into the palm and fall out of position. Hope this answers your question.

@BareFisted

And I've known some who have broken or injured their fist using a two knuckle strike. So the lesson is you do it your way and I'll do it mine, either way can break your hand if you do it wrong.

do you have tips for developing aggression (an aggressive mindset) for self defense situations?
@BareFisted
@BareFisted 10 жыл бұрын
Hey Liquidcadmus, You must develop violent intent which is having the intention to do harm to another. Intention starts in the mind and can be converted into violence of action. To begin, every time you strike a heavy bag, focus mitt etc.. you should be intending on striking it with as much power and speed as you can generate, if you just go through the motions you will never reach the full effectiveness of your strikes. You must formulate thoughts that will stir up your intent strongly, thoughts of anger, things that piss you off. Figure out what kinds of thoughts trigger the most intense reaction in you and stick with those. Bad intentions help lead to aggression, one drill you can use to develop aggression is to practice creating this energy by forming intention over and over again and feeling that energy raise up in you Now allow that energy to go through your body until you feel you want to strike something but don't just feel the energy, then relax and allow it to dissipate from your body. As you continue to use this drill you will be able to bring up this energy at your will, when you need it in a self defense situation. Hope this helps, but only use this when you know someone wants to hurt you or do you harm, not just because you got pissed off at someone.

l was told that if punching an enemy with a fist, try to land with the first two knuckles , next to thumb, ie the index finger and middle finger knuckle, not the three last knuckles on pinky side that you suggest, since you more easily get what they call the 'boxer's fracture' as the hand bones in last 3 knuckles are the weakest and break more easily. is this not true?
@BareFisted
@BareFisted 10 жыл бұрын
Hey Nixon, both ways can be used to punch an opponent the important thing to remember is whichever way you strike make sure you have conditioned the fist and have punched a soft heavy bag. Also you must train to strike the head by targeting the areas of the head which will damage it or knock it out. Most boxers fractures occur when punches are thrown in a horizontal plane, the best way to throw a punch barefisted is in a diagonal position.
