Kevin, You really are the BEST. Great content, super succinct, clever, and funny too. I am so glad to have your videos. I am sure I would never have learned how to use this tool like you do with watching your video... Even after years and years of using it. Thank you and I hope you never stop making these tutorials. They are all small (or big) lessons in a MASTER CLASS! Cheers, Karl

Shouldn't the tool analysis give result in green? I use this for injection molding plastics parts analysis and aim to get full panel in green on analysis using engineering specified vector and draft angle
@kevinr6236
@kevinr6236 4 ай бұрын
Great question. The tool will work either way. I believe the green color is for the negative draft values. It really depends on the vector direction you prefer relevant to the part. Either way should give you the same result.

Cant compare laptop GPUs and Desktop GPUs, at this scale. The Quadro GPU Desktop, would obviously destroy the laptop 4090. DO another one but with all laptops or all Desktop GPUs.

Is there a way to get the menus to open every time you use a hotkey?? For example, I have freeform blend mapped to the B key. It works, but the menu opens only once in a while. I also wonder is there a way to have the menu default to open every time you use a tool whether it be from hotkey, marking menu or icon click? This is one of the major oversights by Autodesk if there isnt a way to do this

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED and kinda solved. After some trial and error I found that if you close the option box with the windows X in the corner, the next time you select the tool the option box will NOT open. However, If the selected tool has the option box open and you exit with another tool like pick>Object, Then the next time you select it, the option box will OPEN AUTOMATICALLY. It seems to recall the previous state of the option box when you exit the tool. I searched the pref files and looked for any option box state that could be changed but couldnt find any permanent solution. I didnt thoroughly test this. let me know if this works for you. Thanks that was fun!

As for requesting this as a feature, definitely submit it through MENU>UTILITIES>COMMUNITY>IDEASTATION or the FORUMS. I keep a running wish list that I share with Autodesk. Sometimes, those request actually make it into the software.

Subd(imagine & shape) , nurb based Class-A(ICEM & free style), class A to plastic convertion (GSD) , Mechanical design (biw,normalcad).... The issue is Italian... They don't want to work hard... And learn stuff with... Stepper learning curve 🤣

One way of retaing the vector is to use a construction plane. Have the Z-direction of the C-Plane align with the vector. Then the C-Plane will come across to Catia for example.

Hey Kev, I had a question regarding arrow sliders and movement sensitivity- Is there a way to control this in the same way you would in transform cv tool? particularly in the extend tool as well as within the align tool with both arrow sliders and if possible skew angle arrow sliders?
@kevinr6236
@kevinr6236 2 жыл бұрын
Great question. I really wish Autodesk would add the movement sensitivity to all the transform tools, arrow keys and tools. Zooming in close can help change the global scale and sensitivity but its not very consistent or predictable. To fine tune align, Ill leave the history on and use the transform cv tool to make the hull adjustments to get some of the sensitivity benefits. Are you familiar with holding the ALT key while sliding back and forth in a numeric input window to adjust the number? This may help for the skew angle value in the align options. Its not interactive, but could help do finer adjustments.
@ryan6530
@ryan6530 2 жыл бұрын
@@kevinr6236 had a feeling they haven't yet added this functionality would definitely be beneficial! yep I use the history all the time to fine tune with move cv tool to refine the shape. Keeping some control within align tool would be a next logical step of improvement. BTW any plans for a live stream anytime soon? I always manage to miss them lol

Solidworks does NOT recommend and does NOT support Geforce (GTX) cards. These are not "consumer-level" applications and have not been written to take advantage of that kind of card (or at least, their drivers haven't). Solidworks utilises OpenGL which the GTX cards cant support. Will it run on a GTX? Yup. Is it okay to use for professional use? Absolutely not. You'll be pulling it out and replacing it with a Quadro or RTX equivalent within days.

It is interesting to see what a card like that can do. Prices of graphics cards are way too high in today's market. I am just starting to work with CAD, I will probably eventually want to use AutoCAD. For now I use FreeCAD. My assemblies are very simple in comparison to the model in your video. They will likely become more complex as I gain experience. I would prefer to buy a card with 8Gb of memory or more, but an entry level workstation card will suffice for my needs for awhile. I'll be happy to get 60-90fps with simple designs in 1440p with something like the AMD WX3200 or Nvidia equivalent. I would prefer a WX 5400 for the $350 or so that they are supposed to retail at. By the time I need a card with 8Gb of memory, I probably won't care that much about cost so long as the market has re-normalized.

The RTX 4000 makes no sense. It's a lower clocked GeForce RTX 2070 with the exact same silicon and non-ECC memory, but for double the price. It's just a stupid rip-off. But "professional" CAD software is slower on the GeForce? Yeah, because it artificially throttles itself into oblivion if the GPU name doesn't contain the word "Quadro". It's trash software, that is all.

@kevinr6236
@kevinr6236 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I build my own workstations to keep cost down. Its pretty easy to do these days. However, most gaming computers, desktop or laptop would work just fine. If you start with a prebuilt system or build one, budget for GPU, Memory, CPU then storage in that order. Alias does run slightly better on RTX workstation cards(was quadro) but I personally run a GeforceRTX 2080 in my laptop and it works just fine. Start with the most GPU you can afford. the higher the cost, typically the more onboard memory it will have. Consider Alias benefits most from single thread performance when selecting a CPU. Intel or Amd work great. Then get the largest m.2 storage you can afford in your budget.

How hot does your RTX 4000 run? The P4000 GPU I am considering has a max TDP of 105 Watts. The RTX 4000 has a max TDP of 160 Watts. 50% more power means a lot more heat.
