Does the oil separator fails were boost gets in to the crankcase??
@datadrivenmqb9 күн бұрын
Most people don't understand anything about this system. If the one way check valve fails (just inside the blue passage) then it'll push boost pressure into the outer area of the valve, but much will just be vented into the TIP with some on the crankcase. But it won't be like putting 25psi or whatever straight to the crankcase. Most common failure (of MK7 valves) seems to be the diaphragm ripping, which means it's loses the atmosheric pressure reference and it because an intake air leak at idle while also not closing the diaphragm.
@SRalgarve19659 күн бұрын
@ Yes I’m familiar with the diaphragm failure but was wondering if there was a possibility of getting boost in the crankcase thru one of those check valves, thanks for the response

Very organized 👌, anything negative to say about the 034 springs now that you've had them for some time? I ended up getting them, so I'll install them in the spring. Do you recommend their RCO ball joints with them, or are they not needed?
@datadrivenmqb19 күн бұрын
@@crimsonsw21 I like them overall. Car looks great IMO. In hindsight I would put the TT spring pads in the rear to maintain a tiny bit of rake. I suspect this varies by car though so may not be necessary on all. I MAY go back to stock (or maybe try Golf R springs), but only because my driveway is somewhat steep and when the car is loaded down with extra tires, tools or our two dogs, it scrapes the rear mud flaps in and out. I did play around with bump stops quite a bit. Fronts are FEBI 22641 (meant for a Volvo) with 5mm trimmed off the TOP, and rears are 10mm trimmed off the TOP as well. Top is done to keep the soft progressive "nose" of the bump to ensure no abrupt engagements mid corner.
@crimsonsw2118 күн бұрын
@datadrivenmqb cool. I have B6s, so I'll have to figure out if I need to mess with the internal bump stops. You think RCO ball joints are needed with the springs?
@datadrivenmqb18 күн бұрын
@ I'm not a fan of them. They add a bunch of bump steer which is noticeable if tracking the car hard. If autocrossing, the camber gained outweighs the ill effects IMO. I'd run 034 camber mounts (which I do) and/or try the 034 control arms for more camber before the ball joints.
@crimsonsw2116 күн бұрын
@datadrivenmqb ok, I have Camster mounts, but was planning on switching them out for caster mounts and using either RCO joints or CS knuckles to get camber. Car is mainly street, but I do want to get into some track days soon. If I don't need roll center correction with their springs, then I'll probably just get the knuckles, even if the cost is higher.

The TCR cars run 5W30 Castrol in engines that originally called for 5w40 for reference. Lots of differences between that and a street car as to why they'd run that but bottom line thicker oil won't hurt it. Nice, simple mod. Does it work on the Mk7 PCV as well?
@datadrivenmqbАй бұрын
@@whoismario I'm not sure I'd do it without the Venturi (and even then 15-18 valves already pull on the cam cover, would only potentially make things worse). Knowing what we know now, 19+ are ideal candidates for the MK8 PCV since the stock operation is most similar to the MK8 flow path. 17-18 are somewhat successful, but seems the limits are lower. They're more of a mixed bag. It just depends on so many factors it's hard to say.

@ I just got my 17 alltrack recently. Had leaks in the oil pan and a bad turbo. I’m wrapping up an is38 swap into it. I put a fresh stock pcv on it due to age. I do have a Stage 2 Revo tune with 200cpi downpipe, do88 full intercooler and MST complete intake (TIP, hose and filter). Now I was considering putting a RacingLine complete catch can kit with PCV plate, but I would probably wait for that and try instead putting back the OEM Intake and see if I do still have issues on track. I've only directly checked out the APR and saw no reason to not use it over anything else. It has a check valve to prevent damage to the N80 valve plus the catch can isn't stupid to empty and doesn't require removal of a TTY engine mount bolt like the VWR. IMO the VWR is poorly thought out and with both being basically the same price the choice is easy. Though those 2 are the most popular options (anecdotally).
