This is a former french company SNCM ship, the "Napoleon Bonaparte", which took on water in the port of Marseille. Since then, the company has sold it to GNV.

Interesting video Carsten! I’m surprised you were able to enter the garage at sea. I’ve never seen that before. Well not normally anyway, except on some Italian ferry, where I saw they sailed with the Internal doors open for the whole passage. 😳

Hi Mitchell, Thank you very much. It is legal in (this area) in Canada to enter the upper vehicle deck and even stay in the car while sailing. Until a few years ago, the lower deck was also allowed, but that has since changed. (By the way, the German rail ferries like the SASSNITZ always had an exemption as well; there the rail passengers were allowed to stay in the railway carriage on the rail deck - always plenty of discussion material for captains, shipping company and the authorities about the pros and cons)

@@JustFerries Right, that’s interesting indeed! I have seen it on the Adriatic onboard Superfast they allowed passengers to stay in their campers on the aft open deck. Even our 2 ferries here had showers on the car deck for such passengers from their time in Greece.

This is where safety interests collide a little with commercial interests. I was the captain on duty during the 2010 fire on the MV's upper car deck - if there had been passengers on deck, we wouldn't have found them because of the extreme smoke development.

Hallo Carsten, das Schiff scheint gut gepflegt und gefällt mir optisch ganz gut. Auch wenn ich weiterhin kein Fan von Doppelendfähren bin. Wie gewohnt tolle Aufnahmen, die Stimmung und Tageszeit sehr schön wiedergeben. Daumen hoch und ich hoffe auf weitere tolle Passagevideos aus Kanada. Liebe Grüße aus Berlin. André

Hallo André, mittlerweile ist ein großer Teil der Flotte dort durch Doppelender ersetzt worden, aber hier und da findet man auch konventionele Schiffe. Das mächste Passagevideo kommt am kommenden Sonntag, davor noch ein kleineres mit einem der neuen Doppelender. Wie immer vielen Dank und liebe Grüße!

Hallo Carsten, zwei Zeitzeugen früherer "Fähr"-Zeiten. Schade, dass die Schiffe so schlecht erhalten sind. Sie wären bestimmt wertvolle Exponate in einem entsprechenden Museum. Es sind beides Schiffe mit großer maritimer Geschichte, leider dem Verfall preisgegeben und auch dem Vandalismus (warum muss das immer so sein, ganz naiv gefragt, denn zum normalen Verfall gesellen sich hier eindeutige Spuren von grober Kaputtmacherei) - wie immer Danke für den Kommentar und liebe Grüße!

there is nothing preserved about the former Qn of Sydney, it is a derelict vessel whose owner has let fall into this state. The Province of BC and the Federal Governement has paid millions to keep this vessel from floating away and causing even more harm to the environment in the Fraser River

Was mir gerade hier wieder mal auffällt: das Schiff mag noch so groß sein, irgendwie passt es in den Sucher der Kamera und man sieht ein großes, sich bewegendes Objekt. Und dann weiß man, dass in dem Schiff hunderte Menschen sind, die sich bewegen, die lachen, reden, essen, trinken.... Jeder tut etwas, während man von außen "nur" ein sich bewegendes Schiff sieht. Das ist ein Teil der Faszination, die Schiffe für mich haben. Und wenn sie dann noch so toll "eingefangen" sind wie von Dir, Carsten, dann kann es schöner nicht sein!
