I really wish it didn't have that ending. Regardless, it's a great movie.

I took an introductory film course, so this is a really basic observation, but they violate something called the "180 degree rule" a few times during this. This is intentional in scenes of high tension--normally when you have an establishing shot with three people at a table, the camera has to remain within the same 180 degrees on one side of the table. If it crosses to the other side at any point, people feel tense. Possibly, this is because it throws us off spatially, which makes us in the audience feel off balance. It's really interesting to me how something like that affects the feeling of the scene, no matter how many times we see it. Enhances Goodman's performance.

Y’all should watch John Goodman in the movie Born Yesterday. When he slapped Melanie Griffith so hard she went flying to the floor and he yanks her up and slams her onto a chair and hovers over her. I was shocked, I’ve always known him as sweet and caring Dan but he plays a great villain as well. Such a versatile actor.

Look, if you plan to make more of these, give the audience more time to digest the scenes before you speak and analyze them. I swear, I understood less because I wasn't able to actually watch what was happening and it was frustrating

I just watched this last night. Loved the movie. The whole time I kept thinking about how terribly they handled trying to take Howard out though. He was completely off guard like 90% of the time and there were two of them.

John Goodman's a great actor and all, but seriously, that director is made of some pathetically weak stuff if this scared him.

John Goodman was the best thing that ever happened to cloverfield. I wish it hadn't of ended with aliens, Its like if Kevin Smith actually got to do the real ending of Red State with the rapture.

this is an area of analysis with which i'm largely unfamiliar, as opposed to the more literary aspect, if you know what i mean. is this what they call blocking? anyway, yes, it was interesting

The damaged film effect many youtubers use is overused, and annoying. It's even becoming a cliche. It does nothing for your video; it only detracts. My suggestion is to avoid its use in future videos.

nice change from watching him refer to blm as occupy on the not-roseanne-anymore show, because there ain't no racism in disney's america, just a fake, dumbed down, nonthreatening version of class consciousness, and that, only on roseanne

blair witch 2 on the otherhand was a sequel for a reason, expanded on the original, in the context of the first movie existing in that universe, but it was different in every way and a kajillion times better. hands down, best sequel ever!

oh, never saw cloverfield, nor wanted too, but scary john goodman, i'm in. sounds like it's kinda like american psycho 2 tho', in that it was a good movie that didn't need to be connected to american psycho, other than meat in the seats, it actually detracted from an otherwise great movie, that is, if greasy, old w shatner ain't a deal breaker

"Maybe humans are the real monsters" YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ Great acting but goddamn am I tired of this endless 'trope' in writing. You can't go one monster feature without writers "deconstructing" (read: having contempt for) the genre

This was excellent and I’m happy it was in my recommended. I haven’t met anyone else who loved this movie like I do, they all just didn’t like the ending. But for me, it was all perfect. I so want to see a part two where we see Michelle fighting aliens, lol. I love how there’s so many different things happening at once and it’s done like chef’s kiss 🤌🏻 Subscribing ✅

I loved this video! I am the kind of person who just watches a film and says, "yeah, I liked it." All of the expertise is lost on me, even when I go in to the movie vaguely aware that people are working hard to do specific, exact things to produce results like what you highlight here. Thanks for your work analyzing the scene!

I would also add that the next shot with Howard framed by Emmet and Michelle can be used to show that he's overshadowed by them, not only that he's lost control.

Everything up until the 'plot twist' at the end, is excellent. They should've just skipped the monster stuff and kept everything inside until maybe the last 20 seconds imo
