-Guys, you did exactly what I want to do with my wife when we immigrate to the USA, but we want to use as a base vehicle a used military truck that they now sell very cheaply but which is all terrain with wheel filling and other high resistance to Go to very deserted places, but with an adapted container on top. -Thank you for encouraging me...!!!
@uglysjourney2 күн бұрын
👍❤️ That sounds like an amazing idea! Good luck and much fun! I also wanted to take a former military vehicle for my base. Indeed to be able to tackle different terrains. But here in EU they were still quite expensive. And please be mindfull of the maximum height restrictions (not sure there are any in US?). Last advice, perhaps also look at military containers (I believe they are called shelters). Perhaps that would be a good fit with your truck 👍❤️

@@uglysjourney -The question of whether we want an all terrain vehicle is that my wife is from the Amazon region here in Brazil and she was used to crossing the Amazon in ordinary cars on the dirt/mud road that bogs down any car to fish in rivers in the wildest places possible and things like that with normal pickups like hilux or even outside the rainy season in Fiat Uno and in the USA it will definitely want to go somewhere at this level so we will need a vehicle that Pass in places with virtually no roads. -She wants to live on a rural property, but we will possibly die on the expedition while we build on the property and when the property is ready we will start traveling on vacation. -I was looking on websites selling used military equipment in the USA, there are trucks ranging from 4000 dollars to around 200,000 in my last search and the models range from light trucks that a common driver's license allows you to drive to heavy ones that even carry containers Same as the ones I thought about using, in the videos on the Ambition Strikes channel they have the smaller model and last year he bought the heavy one and had to get his truck driver's license to drive the bigger one. -The issue of price, from what I understand, is focused on how much maintenance the vehicle needs and in Brazilians, as we are poor, we do crazy maintenance and make very old cars work, sometimes even adapting parts or making parts by hand that are no longer manufactured. I was thinking about either a lighter 6x6 or a 10x10 like the Oshkosh PLS A1 M1075A1, and in the container, as we thought about living in Texas or Florida, which are hotter. I had thought about a refrigerated container that is already insulated and has temperature control from 40ºC to almost -65ºC depending on the model. -We know that just the adaptation and preparation will be hell to do, but the fun is the challenge. -We're crazy, right...? -Thank you for responding, you are fantastic...!!!

Nice build. Just beware that only soldering the big high current crimp connectors is not recommended. If you have no possibility to crimp them make sure to keep an eye on them and retighten the bolts holding them in place and make sure tha cables do not vibrate, but allow for stretching from heat. If for some reason (vibration, heat cycling) you get cracks in the solder bad things can happen fast when you pull high current through the connectors.
@uglysjourney4 күн бұрын
You are absolutely right! ❤️👍 Anyone, crimpers and solders, should keep an eye on their system. Added to your points I also check/feel for heat at connections when I know that I am pulling big loads. But please be aware as well. It is a 150 mm2 cable in a 24 volt system. The maximum length is 3 meter. And I have a 5000 watt Multiplus and do not run heavy equipment for long periods. That cable is overkill.... 1/3 thickness would likely be fine as well 👍😉 But in anyway I see a kind comment in your message. So thanks for caring!
@uglysjourney3 күн бұрын
Thanks for thinking safety! I feel you say things "from care" perspective ❤️👍 But are you right? I always learned electricity takes the way of least resistance. 🤷 In that case, when a couple of strands in a big fat cable break there is still plenty of room for electricity to take the way of least resistance. Do you agree? And in any case, yes! Think safety! ❤️👍
@markusbFPV3 күн бұрын
Yes you are right. Electricity takes the way of least resistance. But the scenario I speak of is when the solder joint develops cracks due to vibration and stress the path of least resistance suddenly have higher than normal resistance and can start to develop heat which in turn melt the solder and creates even worse connection with higher resistance which in turn creates even more heat. Its a snowballing effect. What creates heat is losses due to current having to push through a resistance and the higher the resistance the more power losses. Its always converted to heat. 5kW @24V is still 200A which is no small current and have the ability to heat things up extremly fast. Yes I only mean well and spread this information so people are aware and build in the safest way possible. For many people, like myself, the RV is our home with all our belongings inside. Electrical fire is the last I want to deal with.
@uglysjourney2 күн бұрын
👍 Indeed fire prevention is important ❤️. But when I give advice or share knowledge I also like to be realistic. And now I have issues believing that a small crack (or a few cracks) in a way to big cable with relatively low loads will lead to excessive heat to melt the solder.....etc. I would like to figure it out so people get the right info. So, do you perhaps have a source, a website or a video that supports your statement? Lets help people and not scare them 👍❤️
@markusbFPV2 күн бұрын
@@uglysjourney My answers keeps getting deleted. maybe links are not okay on yt. Edited a post adding a link and now its gone. Anyway, Im not here to prove or convince you, but I think its important for people to atleast have the ability to see a comment saying its not the correct way. If they feel there is substance to the claim then they might do their own googling about this topic. And that in turn maybe help someone prevent a future electrical disaster. Ive seen the result of both soldered crimp connectors gone bad, and also the result of bad crimping (using wrong tools) and I dont want this to happen to anyones home on wheels just because they didnt know there was a better way of doing it. Its no certainty bad things will happen if you only solder, but the risk goes up alot, especially in vibration and temp fluctuation environment. You can easily weld (thats melting and fusing) metals together at 50A or less.....

I like yours a lot more but hate press wood flooring on table and everywhere, as a prefab home builder, just a small addition to the budget like plastic floor laminate would have made it look like a million bucks, but your whole project is genius and proof that you can enjoy life to the max with a smaller budget ingenuity and two good strong arm ! To be fair one thing you forgot to ad is your own labour and time no one works for free ! in the price of the Roamer there's probably 25 salaries to pay to add up to their unreal price point ! To your positive side yours probably way more affordable mechanical maintenance ! The more electronic gadgetry the more expensive the offshore mechanic maintenance become and the harder finding the parts like electronic control board become !

👍❤️ Thanks for your big, kind and great reply and comments! Yeah you are right. Perhaps something like 100.000 in salaries could be added.since it took me 1,5 years to build. And I really like the flooring and worktop. I finished it with a boat-deck-finish. So when you see it in reallife it has a smooth and shiny finish. But I would also understand that you do not like it 👍😉

At least the back frame box is overkill in strength , these cargo box containers can take the weight of 20 more of them stack one over the others, a big difference with commercial RV's made of plastic and thin wood, plastic UV decaying leaking roof mat, that the wind or a small bump can take apart to a point of becoming scrap !
@uglysjourney5 күн бұрын
Yeah you are right again. Box is way too strong and that feels so good 💪🙏. And the commercial vehicles all need a subframe. This helps them to manage the bumps in the road. Otherwise a few bumps would brake their box..... Anyway, thanks again for your support! 👍❤️

❤It's Beautiful❤ The next build You can save Thousands of $$ by purchasing a single use INSULATED High Cube shipping container with beautiful one piece fiberglass walls. These are designed for subzero temperatures and are better insulated than your personal refrigerator and freezer with 6" XPS stuctural panels of high R Value. There are also various side & end door options. If you are frugal you can easily add simple plumbing, wiring, * A Low cost MINI SPLIT HEAT PUMP for cooling & ventilation* Move In within a few days. Of course if you have the $cash$ Spend, Spend, Spend on options. In my opinion it does NOT Make financial sense Converting Old Used uninsulated containers. The time and $$ for stud framing, insulation, wall covering, flooring, etc., can be as much or more than NEW CONSTRUCTION. Plus the cost of the empty container. Your *BEST idea is how the container can be easily mounted to a truck frame and instantly becomes MOBILE.
@uglysjourney18 күн бұрын
Yeah I think I understand what you say. Thanks for sharing your thoughts ❤️👍. I think your solution is very interesting for a "stationary-building-solution". For me a reefer container is not an option, since it is too high and there is too much loss of space because of the refrigerator-parts. Additionally I like my solution where I can easily screw in my walls. In a reefer you would need to glue (glue is strong, I know) but that would be difficult to change the set-up. Anyway, nice to see you thinking with me, but I am sorry, it is not for me 🤷 Do you usually build container -homes? In any way thanks for your support! ❤️👍
