Tiffany may have the best voice of Girls Gen. It is very close. Tiffany"s voice has improved a great deal lately since her solo career. She has definitely been taking voice lessons. She has come from very good and arrived at great. Her dancing has gotten better too. I also agree with the commentator about Sooyoung. She used to be more about stage presence and dance, now her singing is very nice. I so wish that the Girls would get back together for one more come back tour. They have all improved so very much, I can't imagine what great music and dance they could do together now. At least bring TTS back together! .

It's hard to tell nowadays how many singer sing using auto tune. Unless u pick it apart using a software. There isn't actual way to say they are and they are not. That being said out of all of them I still feel that Hyoyeon have the unique and distinct voice. She might not be the best singer but her voice by itself is unique.

At this point i've already given up explaining to people who think when they hear "breathing" etc. it means its live, like NO it's all pre-recorded in the studio and they just play it over in the background and they have the breathing sounds to make it LOOK like its live when its not. Also 1 thing to look out for on music shows is whether someone is using a hand mic, chances are if they are, it's more LIKELY they are singing live + a backtrack supporting most of the time (but still not 100% all the time especially for recorded videos because they edit the vocals to make it sound nicer and polished)

Why can't ppl admit kpop idols lip-sync all the time? It's the norm of the kpop industry. Also, it's so clear to tell whether someone is lip-syncing or not, from their facial expressions to their breathing. I love EXO and BTS - both have crazy strong vocal abilities. But they auto-tune and lip-sync during live performances sometimes, yet i can't complain because dancing affects their singing with heavy breathing

I feel like kpop fans are so judgemental (if that's the right word to use) when it comes to idols and the way they perform. Sure kpop idols could sing live but if they made 1 mistake then knets are quick to point it out so they lip sync to avoid that but that doesn't stop the problem because then they'll say that they don't sing live and are deceiving their fans. For some high notes you really have to open your mouth (lower the jaw, raise your soft pallet, etc.) to help hit that note. Some idols don’t do that when lip syncing and that really gives it away for me haha. Not blaming the idols for it, of course! They already have to do so much when performing (mainly choreography, finding the camera while performing etc.). I’m sure it’s not easy and I’m not expecting perfection from these elaborate performances because it’s just not going to happen unless some type of manipulation is going on. But it surprises me that some fans can’t see that they’re lip syncing, or at least singing with a backtrack.

I think the problem is not liking her (or any idol) in spite of their flaws or weak parts, the problem is saying something is live when is not. If I'm honest, with Hyoyeon it's because she has historically gotten a lot of hate for being a "useless" member as a result of having a weaker singing voice, SM did not help this by giving her the least amount of lines in most songs. This has caused a lot of Hyoyeon stans to compile as many "live" performances as they can to show that she can sing, the clip of her sing at a radio show the girls were invited to is the most popular one since it's very unlikely someone is smoothing or auto tuning there, in order to justify why she's a valid member of the group. (There is also the fact that she isn't as strong of a visual as the others and the SM stylists didn't help much there either and despite what some kpop fans want to claim, they care a ton about visuals.) Also part of the problem is that most of SNSD songs aren't in her register. She's kind of like a weaker version of Tiffany who also sings best in a lower register, but most of SNSD songs are sung in a higher register which doesn't suit her voice at all. She also can't sing "cute" which.... again, is so many SNSD songs. It's why there is a decent amount of speculation around Hyoyeon as to how different her career may have been if she had ended up at another company (mainly YG).

People are confused with the term "auto-tune". They think it's only used in recordings and cannot be used live. Most of their favourites singers uses it when "singing live" in concert and music shows because their dumb fans want the exact same song as the recorded one or they just aren't good enough singers to sing live.

It's so annoying to see fans comment something about how their idols mic was on and how good they sound live while they are lipsyncing to prerecorded vocals but when you tell them it isn't live and how you can hear that it isn't you get called a hater and often get cursed at. Also recently almost every idol sings over a very loud backtrack if they are even singing live so even for me it's hard to tell sometimes whether it's live or not which also doesn't help for anyone.

I think something that people need to realise is that Yuri could've been a lead vocalist, but the company pushed her towards more towards the dancing speciality. Many Sones who started young the early ages will know that yuri was showing potential to become a better vocalist, until that is sm (possibly) shifted her roles due to the fact that not all members realistically will get a fair line distribution. Personally I would say due to sm not pushing her singing abilities further, it made her focus more on the performances instead.

Auto tune doesn’t determine if someone is singing live are not. Everyone On good girl was auto tuned. For some it was just noticeable and some you couldn’t tell. For the people you could tell the auto tune was on is because the MACHINE was literally working to keep their voice on pitch/on key. Auto tune IS A MACHINE to make sure the feedback FROM THE MIC is on pitch/key with the audio/instrumental playback. I’m tired of people not understanding that auto tune is a MACHINE it is NOT a vocal effect, it does NOT affect the quality of someone’s voice, it does NOT determine if someone is singing live or not. It just makes sure the mic feedback matches the instrumental backtrack and stays on key or pitch.

It's been really lonely for me because I've never been able to have a proper conversation with other K-pop fans that didn't result in them getting upset. I think the correct term would be pre-recorded. That’s what they would do for songs with dancing. It’s not just in K-Pop but also in NA music. A great example would be Beyoncé but only when she’s dancing.

This applies to most of kpop idols, idk why they keep saying they are live when they clearly are not. Is impossible to dance as hard as they do and sing clearly, if you want good live singing go to broadway and even there you'll find out how a raw voice sounds like singing and performing, live singing is not about hitting every note but being smart enough to know how to place a note, when to stop, when to hold and when to let go, when to brag, when to shout "everybody" so you get help from the audience. There's nothing wrong in auto tune because in studio versions is used all the time to have a quality sound (even instruments are auto tuned) so just keep cheering on your favorite kpop group but don't be fooled or blind.

As a singer who is also a fan of Kpop, half of the idols in the industry are not even vocals. Yes, they can sing but most of them don't have good breathing technique or can't even sing properly while dancing the easiest parts of their choreography. SM has some of the BEST vocals ever in Kpop but always remember, even JY Park admitted that when he's looking for an idol he looks for the charisma and star quality rather than talent. With SM, most of them are beautiful because they are scouted and trained. SM has always been known for their best visuals in Kpop. What I see most of the time in large Kpop groups is that they will add a few members that are super talented in either singing and dancing and then add a few more that are so-so but either very pretty or very charming. Of course, there are idols that are both visuals and very talented but not all of the time. Notice how the ones who are not the best in the group at singing or dancing are given the role of rappers in non-Hiphop groups? ... when the songs don't even need a rap? One thing I also noticed is that Kpop companies always have the "Pearl Necklace" lineup where they pick the most talented and charming ones as the "big pearls in front and center" and give them the most lines and them make use of the others as background members or the "smaller pearls." Fans don't realize that because they think members in one group are all equally talented. Take for example Sistar: Hyolyn is just like HyunA, CL, Taeyeon, Taeyong, Mark where she's the big pearl and given the most lines because she has the most potential to be successful as a soloist. The other ones like Dasom and Bora don't equal Hyolyn in terms of singing that's why they're given the least lines. Winwin is also an example of the "overshadowed by other members' talents" who gets the least lines in NCT as the small pearl. I love Winwin but I bet none of you can even tell me that's he's as good as Doyoung in terms of singing or as good as Taeyong in terms of street/hiphop dancing (and NCT doesn't do traditional Chinese dance so...). I know many of you will be offended by this comment but I'm just stating my opinion from what I see all the time. You can love all members equally in one group but you're biased or blind if you think they are always equally talented.

Tbh WinWin doesn't even belong in NCT127 anymore, I don't say that in bad way, it's just obvious he won't be returning to the subunit, so I think it's a little bit more fair to compare him to members in WayV. However, in terms of dancing he is seriously talented in contemporary dance, that's his strong point, even if WayV doesn't really do that, SM has never really given him the opportunity to shine at all. He has been given a little bit more lines and center time, he is one of WayV's strongest dancers, including Lucas and Ten. I don't really know about his singing or rapping tho, because we've never gotten the opportunity to listen to him live and the agency never focuses on him or how to make him stand out, he's overshadowed by other members, yes mostly because of his singing abilities, but also because of how they chose to introduce him to the kpop market. SM does this constantly with their NCT members, for example in 127 there's Johnny and Yuta, Johnny obviously has great dancing, singing and rapping abilities, he trained for almost a decade and he was supposed to debut in EXO after all, yet he almost never gets lines and barely has any center time. Yuta has a very nice voice that has been shown a bit in his lives and monster dancing abilities, but again, he has close to 0 lines and SM seems to think that giving him a few seconds of center time is enough.

Winwin caught a lot of attention through Ten's and his cover of 'lovely' because that is his forte. People are also starting to recognize Yangyang's songwriting/rapping skills. If SM can't give them centers or lines to the other members in comebacks, they should at least give them an opportunity to show their other talents through KZbin or other platforms.

Tiffany has ALWAYS been able to sing. idk why SONES decided to shit on her when Jessica left for covering her parts and being in TTS. sure, yeah there were a few voice cracks, but SM was overworking SNSD and Tiffany’s human. at least that’s how we know she sang live. i don’t mind mistakes. as long as the idol puts their heart into what they do, i don’t see an issue. she’s a human just like everyone else.

Finally someone said that Sooyoung is one of the members who improved the most...I once went to her fanmeet and fans taunt her to sing sailing and she sang it without any backtrack or instruments at first since those just entered at somehow the middle of the song since it's just a sudden request from fans, so I could clearly hear her raw vocals and she sounds so soft and sweet and if I were to ask, she and sunny somehow had similarities in their vocal colors.

I do find it frusturating when everyone says "Look this person is the best vocalist in kpop" or "this person could be a main vocal in another group" bc in some ways all idols are underrated for their vocals and also overrated. We overrate any filtered "live" performance we hear bc we assume other idols we dont know much about are generally worse. When really everyone is a pretty good singer, a huge amount fall into the same general category of good and no one always sounds perfect. As someone who sings both live and in a home studio, some Kpop fans make me cringe whenever I see comments like "omgeee he's so stable what an ace, we stan!!" or "omo they sound even better live, such vocal queens!"... I agree that autotune isn't necessarily a bad thing and is often needed (but also often overdone when the singer doesn't even need it) in Kpop performances. Meanwhile, this fact that "many people can no longer tell the difference between live singing and edited vocals" is just SAD. Dancing and singing is really hard. I recently saw red velvet singing umpah2x live. They don't rely on backing tracks and sing about 90% live but their choreo needs to chill. Every syllable sang is a total of 1 or 2 dance moves. That's why when it's Joy's time to sing half way the song she couldn't hold her high note. It's great they can do it bec they are young but give it 5 years from now and they can't perform it the same level

I've seen similar things in RV with the lineup and how different members are given backtrack-- i love my joy but sometimes she gets wayyy to much backtrack during her parts in concerts or stages while seulgi and Wendy utilize it way less. I definitely don't think it's her fault, and sometimes it adds to the performance but i will admit it's much more satisfying to hear them as live as possible :/

As a kpopers multi stan since 2018, I agree. I can accept idols lip sync since they are humans and have lungs too. Like Rosè, when she sing live her voice is sometimes "not stable" bc of high note and low note. But even if she did lip sync I accept it, bc she have a similiar voice to mine. Where sometimes I struggle from high-low note. Because idols are not robot or machine that can be perfect 100%. Same with us, it is a big struggle to dance while singing. So please, if you cant accept it...truth hurts ok? Accept it idols sometimes lip sync

Snsd is what literally got me into kpop. Discovered them through Monty Oum and his video ages ago (rip). But I was also told years ago that I couldn't be a real Sone because I didnt follow and support all their solo endeavors for this exact reason. There are 9 different and distinct girls with 9 different and distinct voices and personalities. That's what I expect. Sure with similar voice training and casting of singers, you may have some similarities among the top tier leads (especially in SM lol), but to me autotuning and overproducting everything ruins everything. Maybe it's just me, but some of performances, like Taeyeon "I" was live, but still have pre-record on background, etc. But you can hear her little cracks in some parts, or her transitions from belts to mixed voice was not clear, and you can hear it, but it was actually with really loud pre-record vocals and harmonies. For me, it's actually okay. They did trained well, and we know that they can actually sing. Why people getting mad because of autotune? Mostly idols ( and other singers, like Ariana Grande etc.) They all used it. It's a normally thing. Btw, if you want really listen to someone vocals, just watch acapella.

Yeah, 90% of the covers on KZbin (where they filmed singing with a mic) is fake. The audio is made with perfection in the studio and attached with the filming, that's it. We can't even tell if the audio came from same person or not.

You were right at Seohyun's Dangerous Woman performance. Of course there were some pre-recorded parts because the choreography was hard, but Seohyun had tried her best to keep her voice stable while dancing and hit those high notes perfectly. The one who totally lipsynced was Jessica as the performance had hot and sexy dance
