how do you deal with coaches that are overly competitive toxic teammates and not getting overwhelmed during dumb drills?

in a small town, politics are 100 percent who plays and who doesn't. If there are local people that have stayed in that town, were good in sports during there time, they run the town. and their kids will be playing before any outsider, and also think they run the school. even if that outsider is twice as good. 1,000,000 percent true.

At the tennis club where I practice. There is this kid probably 11 years old. He is very good, his dad, on the other hand, is a piece of shit. Every single time I saw them, whether just practicing together or when the kid is practicing with someone else, every single time, the dad was mean and impatient. Once after a match the kid lost the dad walked to his opponent and congratulated them then ingored his kid for like 30min after everyone left he was all up in his kids face in it looked like he said something very nasty to him. The kid started to cry and it totally broke my heart 💔😢. Because I know this kid will suffer for a long time and will probably not reach his full potential because of this despite being incredibly talented. I do see other parents who coach, their kids are not half as good as this kid, and some of them are starting to beat him and do better because their parents are great. I often think about that kid and feel like I want to stand up for the him but am afraid of making it worse.😔

GETTING BENCHED IS PART OF PLAYING SPORTS. EVEN ON THE BENCH, IT IS TEACHING CRITICAL LIFE SKILLS. GET OVER YOUR BULLSHIT ENTITLEMENT. EVERY FUCKING PLAYER IN EVERY SPORT EVER HAS HAD THE EXPERIENCE OF SITTING THE BENCH! IF YOU WANT IT THEN YOU NEED TO WORK FOR IT!

This is idiotic parenting advice. If your child is not getting playing time, do not teach them to accept that role. Either work with them to earn more time or switch to a team more suited to their abilities and skills. IN no circumstance would I teach my young child to accept being a "support player".

Why don't you teach your kid to put more effort into becoming a better athlete then instead of an entitled ass attitude that just bec they show up means their entitled to play? If you want it WORK FOR IT!

That’s complete bullshit. Those coaches are out to win at any cost and if your child isn’t up to par they’re gonna be in a world of heartache and the coaches could care less. That is the truth.

This is excellent Dr, thank you. I finally can explain why I have missed a couple of key games (as far as I remember, every time I was I, flow state / the zone… it was not a final, but a regular game or against very superior teams where loosing was so obvious that you are not focused on winning… nor loosing in that case 😂)

I don't agree. When I was a coach I let each kid play. Kids improve when they get the chance to prove themselves in the game. We always found a way to spend even extra time with the one's who were slow to start with. It was so great to see them improve when given a chance. It's sick how some never give kids a chance especially when the kids show an interest.

Best thing a coach ever said: We play winning football (soccer). Not "we have to win." The difference: What we do, how we prepare, how we reset after mistakes, THAT will result in wins. But you cannot play result. You simply must play.
@1dripy-e5s3 ай бұрын
There is a difference in being loud and excited vs being abusive. Putting down a person, isolating them, making fun of them, telling them that’s why you sit on the bench. Love this mentality. We need to teach this to all coaches. Specially those little league parents calling themselves coach.

Wow this is exactly my headspace in football matches, in training I know I'm not good so I put the pressure of and enjoy in the moment to get good to improve my skills, hence I play with freedom and seem to improve a lot, in a match I fumble I get tense/nervous and play even worse or just bland. It's because in the match I'm thinking I've got to get the ball, I need to score, I need to play better and put not just a high expectation but too much pressure on myself. Wow thankyou for this video I will put this video into practice right away
@1dripy-e5s3 ай бұрын
Let’s be honest many kids will leave the sport, not all players will go pro. I don’t think coaches should have this much power over kids. I’m sorry but I don’t agree with you on this. Most coaches don’t even have training, they are just parents volunteering destroying other kids.

Analogous to academics... Solving a particular question, by yourself in the least amount of time possible, applying the concepts learnt during lectures, rather than to seek the solution immediately after reading the question and feeling a false sense of satisfaction that you thought the same way...
