From what I can recall it was still David Bergeaud who did it. But who knows. Maybe he wanted to try something new since the series was on a stronger platform at the time.

Man I remember cruising around in my pimped out ship listening to space radio, taking breaks for little moon challenges, it was the perfect break to digest what the last cut-scene said. The biggest shame was Aphelion disappearing as a character, she was a full AI minor character in TOD with a great attitude to round out the team. Being made by the Lombaxes, you'd think she would have something to say about Azimuth. Even how she is upgraded with Zoni time powers seems tailor made to her origins of being a repaired OG Lombax warship, and feels like something was planned. The space ship combat was barely serviceable, but at least it was only boring not infuriating like past games, and it did look cool.
@Natquerx5 күн бұрын
I'm glad you brought up Aphelion. I guess it was something that fit in with the time, but they later dropped. It is shame some characters (even with their small roles) can get easily overlooked as the series goes on.

@@Natquerx I personally really have a love of AI characters, as they have the potential to approach sideways in their personality in a real "other" way. Following along with all the press at the time, I figured this new 3 game set approach would have more continuity between games, with what devs were saying I didn't even think that Quest for Booty counted as one of the three and we would be getting another game after ACIT. I was fully expecting to find Max Apogee (Talwyn's father) somewhere in ACIT to help us find the great clock's location, or at least the next breadcrumb so we could follow that up that side story on the next generation of games. Ahh, I was a naive lad back then.

I did platin +100% the dlc and I can see what you mean. Well, you can farm around 500.000 with the silver dog tags. But yes, for over half the game, untill I could somewhat craft good accessory, nearly every boss one tapped me on normal, leveling is basically impossible thanks to reducing EXP and the fact that every animation locks you, be it normal attack, skills or even landing from a jump. And then, after around level 60, the game became way to easy, even at expert. And the aggro system sucks balls... mc (had a different name in german) and kisara had bouth aggro plus L and Rinwell (my main) less aggro L, and the boss still focused me after 3 skills. It got so annoying that I just run circles around the last lord and let him play catch wile the outher 3 beat him to death.

The game uses lots of expendable generic fighters. It is totally different from any RPG, I ever played. it sounds hard but after a little while you will get it. the animations are good too. like what you get now in mobile games, so it was ahead of its time.

To me, the plot I found just so unbearably bland. With the rest of the Tales series, good or bad, they usually were memorable in some way, but with Arise, there is like there is nothing worth of note with it. It just feels so cliché and wooden with things just being painfully underdeveloped. The story in general just suffers from being a mostly generic good vs evil villain of the week story powered by the power of friendship. While it tries to present itself as otherwise, the longer it goes on the clearer and clearer it all becomes that it is your average anime fantasy story. This is also why the villains suffer so much in the character department, as they seemingly just exist to be pounded by the heroes and then for them to move on making just your common evil thugs. Even the closest the game gets to a central main villain feels more a like a footnote more than anything. And while the game tries to portray them as having had some redeeming qualities, it all just comes from small side notes, not really doing a good job helping their case. There is also a frequent failure of the plot to consider the side effects of its characters actions. And what makes it so frustrating is that the game repeatedly flirt with the idea of exploring these deeper topics yet backpedals at the last second or changes the subject. For the most part the story settles on being a simple anti-discrimination plot being content with simple answers to complex questions, not really digging deeper. Having completed the game, I am somewhat left with apathy towards it. It was just something that I completed then moved on. It wasn't bad or anything, but I wouldn't describe it as memorable either.

Remind me of my first S-RPG: Fire Emblem Conquest. Which i played in release. It was not a snap judgment. I actually did quite a bit of research before I bought it. The main selling factor to me was the difficulty. And having played other fire emblem games since I feel I made the right decision because I thoroughly enjoyed conquest and have not enjoyed any other game in the series except perhaps Shadows of Valeniia.

The most jarring part to me (besides the complete change in humor and tone) was the great amount of awkward animations and visual oddities, both in cutscenes and in-game. For example, during the rail section before the giant kerchu-piloted robot, there's one moment where it shoots a bunch of rockets that are supposed to chase you on the rail, but because of the side camera angle, those rockets just awkwardly fly over your head before properly chasing you because they would've hit the player otherwise. The game is riddled with things like that.

I definitely have nostalgia blindness affecting my view of this game, but as someone who really loves it I will say I think the combat and story are pretty empty. They both have good bones imo but they just fail to go far enough. I think the the dark/light aspect to special attacks was cool but I agree that there needed to be something beyond Harmony Chains. It almost feels like they originally intended to add something above it, probably similar to ff limit breaks but they didn't for whatever reason. Similarly for the story, I feel like they had this really complicated, original, and ambitious story planned, but failed to flesh it out or execute it well at all. By the time you get to the finale you've spent the whole game following a very simple, linear story that results in a pretty lame climax partially because the story was framed as being complex and intriguing. Idk I love it for what it is but this would definitely hit hard asf if someone kept the skeletons of everything, but actually went balls to the wall with the ideas.
@Natquerx25 күн бұрын
I 100% agree. It felt like the game was on the borderline of being off the wall vs playing it safe to appeal to the masses. If it just leaned into more of the untraditional mechanics and story it would have been more memorable than what it is.

@@Natquerx If I had all the money and influence at Bandai Namco I’d honestly fight for a FF7 esque remake of this game in terms of story and combat. The visuals are already good enough for me but with better enemy variety, combat that goes a couple steps further and a better story that fully sees through the mineral/floral powder storyline, the forte/andantino storyline, and whatever the frederic/polka magic and death/rebirth storyline was supposed to be, I honestly think it would be an amazing game. There’s a good complex narrative in there somewhere.

Lol, I thought *for sure* this was going to be an ironic video about a trashy game, and watching it I'm still unconvinced. "Perfect combat", "the game took the world by storm", that's some next level gaslighting! The thing I remember the most about this shitty game is being absolutely certain while I was playing it that it was a Western developed game because everything about it was so off the mark, and the shocking reveal during the credits when I saw all those Japanese names go by, bringing dishonor to their families. This disaster of a game is to Ninja Gaiden what X-Blades was to Devil May Cry. I'm not even sure if I'd put it above or below X-Blades!
