Hey question: is it better to have generator system on larger -120L tank or no C02 at all? (there is no option close enought to me where i could refill co2 tank so generator seems to be only option)
@ssaquascapes
@ssaquascapes 12 сағат бұрын
The method of co2 differs as far as how you produce it. But, once sending co2 to a diffuser, they are all the same. So, if a generator system like this is your only option you’ll be fine. You may have to refill it more often the liquid co2, but you can get the same injection dosage for you large tank that you would with any other system. Hope that long spiel makes sense.

Every time me or my freinds while learning had one filter, and cleaned it all with chlorinated tap water, on non planted tanks, crashed the entire system. Every single time. About 5 for me until I learned, then taught them to stop. Some of them wanted to quit the hobby until they figured it out.

Simply put, out of all of Hygger’s lights, I like this model the best and have seen the best plant growth with no algae (balanced). I like this one so much I order 4 of them, which I paid for myself, for my plant rack I am building. I like that I have the remote features if I want but can use it on a timer like the rest of my fish room too.

This happened to me with my co2 generator except I set the bubble/needle valve where I wanted it (1.5+/-BPS) during the reaction, before maximum pressure. Basically just like you explained the pressure continuously rose until It was like 30BPS MORE THAN I COULD COUNT! Had a couple pelcos laying on their side and a few pea puffers rolling around on the substrate. Just like you I pulled the line to release psi, started a airstone to release that dissolved co2 to make room for the o2. Only thing I did differently was a water change. Even though it was risky to stress the fish out more by doing a water change, it helped tremendously! Anyway sorry to go on, just wanted to share my similar experience. Love the videos keep up the great work!!

Yes, I have learned since then to just CHANGE THE WATER! 🤘 It is hard when you are panicking to think logically. I just thought, need air…need air…need air. A water change gets the Co2 out right away. I probably would have had less loss. Thanks for sharing. 🤘

Isn’t it better to get a skimmer that attaches to the in take so the water can be filtered instead of throwing it back in circulation just like that?

From my experience it doesn’t matter how you get the biofilm into the water stream. It will be filtered either way and the surface stays clear. This model is smaller and looks better to me than the big ‘ol intake skimmers.

Great video! I needed a refresher, and I'm planning to use this for hydroponics soon. Regarding the 4:1 waste ratio: I had a boss who worked in the water filtration industry at an engineering level. He explained to me in detail how to build RO systems using inexpensive components and pointed out that these systems are often sold with a high markup. Pro tip: You can take the waste water and either cycle it back into the main input or, if I remember correctly, directly into the RO membrane itself. By installing an adjustable valve on the waste/recycle tube, you can control how much water is discarded as waste and how much is cycled back. Think of it like a T-valve in a recycling loop-though you’ll still need some waste output, as it can’t be reduced to zero. The tradeoff here is between water quality and the lifespan of the RO membrane. In areas where water is expensive (like California), or if you're off-grid and cycling rainwater, this setup can help conserve water. However, if you're filtering pond water or dealing with poor water quality, recycling may not be practical. From what I remember, city tap water is generally fine to recycle, but dirtier sources are less ideal for this method. Alternatively, you can skip recycling and simply use the adjustable valve to control the waste flow, which increases water output. Again, the tradeoff is between water quality and the increased wear on the RO membrane.
