18:17 this feels unsubstantiated. You just create a narrative to knock down. I'm pro Palestinian, and pro a two state solution at the 1967 borders AND I absolutely take issue with the suggestion that America would take over and ethnically cleanse Gaza, NOT the notion that some Palestinians are willing to or would prefer to live elsewhere.

I am not English, but I wonder whether the specificity of Common Law is not overrated. Because if the central government decides to change a rule, to build something or implement a service, it still gets done anyway doesn't it, whatever the local ancient tradition will say...

* Stop saying the Arab refugees were kicked out of Israel. Some were, and some weren't. Most weren't. Talk to Professor Benny Morris, who is an expert on the subject. He will tell you that most of the refugees fled the war. It's true that Israel didn't allow them to come back once the war was over. But can you blame them? Which country wins a war and allows members of their former enemy to return to their homes and outnumber them? 700,000 Arab refugees left in 1948. Had they been allowed back, they would've outnumbered the Jews who lived there at the time and would've undoubtedly tried again to take control of the country. * When Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005, Israel did indeed withdraw from some of the lands they conquered in the ‘67 war and allow the Arabs to have their own state. Well, it took only a few years before Hamas won the elections there and shortly thereafter began to fire rockets at Israel. Israel then blocked the strip to prevent more weaponry from entering. Honestly, can you blame them?

Well well well.... I've not listened to you for ages Josh because I decided you were a misogynist and a fool, and I'm not saying I'm wrong. I am saying I'm glad you are calling this out. You can thank Angie Jones for promoting you because I wouldn't have watched if she'd not given you a little praise for doing something good and sparking my curiosity. Please Josh, I feel like you've been so keen to please LGBTQIA+ activists, men and your mates "community", and you've raised your flag and shown off your virtue with all the right signals and what not, and in the process you've actively not given a shit about women and girls. Including Lesbians. Or when you have taken an interest you've used your platform to be dismissive of the ways this ideology impacts us. You just don't give us any benefit of your doubt, or at least that's how it seems. You rave about the importance of raising the opponents best argument, in good faith, in order to get better understanding, and yet you've failed to do that every time I've listened to you talk about these issues. You dismiss women who speak up as radicals and then insist that a man can be a woman and well it's just baffling cos it makes you look like a fool, and as I say, a misogynist. It's not been a good look for you... Maybe 2025 will see a softening and a show of care? Hope so. I'm still watching so not entirely sure where you'll end up, but cheers!

thanks for the episode. Agree with a lot that was said, but the point about giving Trump creit for 'out of the box thinking' it quite the stretch in my opinion. Trump has a child's view of politics, he probably thinks he is the first person the think of moving the palestinians to the neighboring countries. You're giving a huge amount of charitability to a man who has proved time and time again to have not even the faintest idea what he is talking about. I would be shocked if he could point to Israel on a map. Also, the point about 'if you gave the choice for Gazans to leave only islamists would be left' I think you are drastically underestimating how many would choose to stay. I would guess 90+% would stay if given the choice to relocate.

A huge part of the problem is a total naive ignorance by Westerners about the utter cynicism of Middle Eastern governments and politics - and to be honest, about the actual 'mainstream' opinions of Middle Eastern populations; Westerners look at the Middle East by applying a Western political and social lens, are totally duped by the propoganda and shamelessly cynical statements of Middle Eastern governments and other political actors, and don't bother to understand the history and underlying dynamics of Middle Eastern politics. The sad truth is that political violence is, has, and always will be, endemic to Middle Eastern politics, because politics is a zero-sum game there, in large part a reflection of the underlying tribal basis of political culture. Politics is not a process of resolving competing interests through negotiated compromise, it is 'kill and get your way, or die and they get theirs'. Of the many understandings that we have lost over the decades as we convinced ourselves our liberal ways of living is a form of natural law that is shared by all, is that in a war, 'to the victor go the spoils'. The Gaza war is just the latest in the long line of Arab failures to defeat Israel, where the belief seems to be the losers get to dictate the outcomes. Trump's Gaza proposal is, at a bare minimum, totally unworkable, but the point being missed is that it is Israel and the U.S. in the driver's seat (as the victor and it's sponsor), and that whatever the eventual solution, it won't be about pleasing the side that started the war or try to use it to achieve their aims.

14:42 your video was all right up to this point. From here on, I think you need to familiarize yourself with a little more history.. you didn’t mention the West Bank and the occupation of Israel there and the continued encroachment of settlements. You also failed to mention that the UN wanted them to go back to the 1967 Borders, but Israel kept developing and developing because they want to displace the Palestinians. Also prior to 1948 there were Jews, Arabs and Christians in the area and they were all considered Palestinians. Palestine referred to a region not an ethnic group. Hamas may employee jihad, but the Palestinian people have never stated this, except in Gaza, where they have been imprisoned.

thank you Josh, you educate, inspire, reason and envisage. I'm interrupting watching you knowing you can't cover all aspects, but why would Trump - honestly - seek to do as he says - the con-artist criminal 'real estate' man - intends only to exploit what Gaza itself offers? its absolutely nothing to do with people. It's the land's resources, its strategic position. Can anyone honestly imagine that foul creature caring a fig for humanity - he's not yet shown any evidence in his entire 78 years and now with obvious dementia. How has he demonstrated 'care for people' in his own country? Look how he determines who receives aid to rebuild or rehouse or educate or receive medical care? He's only ever been in private and public - power over, fear tactics and control. If NOBODY had given him airspace he could never have achieved status of any kind. Yes, his latest incites intelligent debate - never is that his intention - - but who yet discusses his dementia.

I don’t buy this ‘Oh, it’s just Trump. You know he says stupid sh!t, get over it” argument. How is that a ‘get out’? Sure, it’s a perfectly accurate explanation for what he said, but it doesn’t logically follow that that this should carry any weight beyond that. Does the sheer fact that he’s upending 50+ year’s worth of diplomatic norms mean that we should suddenly not see merit in those norms and just let them slip away without protest? It’s perfectly reasonable to point out (indeed, forcefully) when an old, irrational, singularly uninformed person behaves as such; particularly when his actions have the fate of the world potentially resting on them.

Ultimately the trouble with respecting a population's right to self determination is sometimes watching them freely determine stupid things for themselves. Like dedicating your entire society and culture around a theological forever-war with your neighbor over a theological grievance about non believers in the holy land.
