This is a great analysis of that fishing gear addiction that I think every dedicated angler goes through, with me being one of them lol. I just picked up the St. Croix Legend Elite, which is one of the most sensitive and most comfortable rods I’ve ever fished with and IMO one of the finest rods out there. With that being said, why is it that I’m now looking into what other models of high end rods are out there like Megabass and G. Loomis high end rods…

Falcon rods are what I've been using for around 25 years... I think the NRX+ is a better rod but not enough better to spend the extra money on one. I own more Amistad rods from the BuCoo series to the Cara then any other blank including a couple of the Amistad extra heavies. Great video man!!!

These two rods are the greatest duo tag team; I've had both of them. It is imperative to possess these two. I own the Levante Tour Versatile and the Zodiac MH 7'0. The Tour Versatile can do everything, with the exception of weightless lures, and the Zodias is better suited for those, in my opinion. When you're feeling jiggy, the tour versatile's slack line sensitivity is insane! However, if I had to pick just one, I would choose the tour versatile

It's my favorite lake in CT I think! I fish it at least 2-3 times a month. I've never caught a small mouth in there but I always thought they'd thrive in the lake, I wouldn't be surprised if people throw them in there from the river or something. Also, Krauszers on Rt. 79 in Durham! They make great sandwiches. But hear me out, the deli inside the hardware store across the street from this lake is insane!!

Go with Levante. I have 2 DSR's and use them for anything from Deps Buzzjets, Diamante Dog-X, Chatterbaits, Spinnerbaits, etc... Levante is a bit softer than Orochi, so for braid applications, and reaction baits it really does it all. Even good for light flipping duties.

Would the 7’4” medium fast be stiff enough for weedless applications?
@twiggsherman36414 ай бұрын
I bought a Levante Shakyhead and liked it. So I figured I'd get the Orochi version and it'd be that much better. The Levante was softer in action and not as crisp. However sensitivity wise there didn't seem to be that much difference. The Orochi seemed stiffer and more crisp. Really notice it on casting. The Orochi isn't on par with an Expride in terms of sensitivity, but it does have the same crispness. If I had to do it over again I'd just stick with Levante. The price difference between the two had me expecting a huge jump, but it really wasn't.
@FishinMitchАй бұрын
Sorry for the late reply, but that is my experience with the Levante and Orochi as well. Slight difference in action with the Levante being slightly softer, but sensitivity is not a noticeable difference. I'd also say that the Levante may be a little lighter in the hands as well!

Great video and very well done. Curious if you have purchased the “shakey head” model yet and/or heard any opinions from fellow anglers. Main information I want to know about this specific model is it is still a good drop shot rod? I want to use it for shakey head, wacky worm, etc (versatile rod) but want to know if I should buy the Megabass levante Shakey head, or go with a different brand “versatile” rod. No worries if you don’t have any info yet. Figured I’d ask tho.
@FishinMitch5 ай бұрын
Hey man! I actually own the Orochi Shakyhead model and I've considered purchasing the Levante version as well. It's an awesome "do anything" rod and probably the most versatile in the lineup. It can throw 1/4-1/2 drop shots with no issue, but it's perfect for shaky heads (obviously), wacky rigs, small swimbaits, etc. I don't know if you can tell I'm the video, but I actually slightly prefer the Levante to the Orochi in the Whipsnake model, which is why I'm curious to try out the Levante Shakyhead!
@austinkupferschmid3845 ай бұрын
@@FishinMitch Thanks for the feedback. As of now, I don't fish a ton of open water, so I am learning more towards the Shakyhead model to have more backbone around cover. This will also be my first spinning rod, therefore looking for a more versatile setup. Knowing the style I fish, I feel like I will dedicate this rod more towards Shakey Head, ned rig, and wacky worm and use the drop shot technique when the opportunity comes. Maybe in the future buy a rod more dedicated to drop shot. Any idea if you will make a video on the two Shakeyhead models in the near future?
@FishinMitch5 ай бұрын
@@austinkupferschmid384 In the near future? Not a great possibility, only because Levante Shakyheads seem to be hard to come by right now, and I like to have a few months of use on a rod before I give my opinion on it! But it's definitely on the list for sure

Great video. I agree 100%. I have around 10 or 11 Shimano Exprides. I have 3 higher end rods. Megabass and a G loomis. For the money and every day fishing the Exprides pound for pound hang with those others that are nearly if not a full double the cost. I don’t mean this ugly, i merely mean to say this to prove your point but add a little flare to it. If you can’t feel the bites on a $200 dollar rod. You in my opinion need to fish more and learn more instead of buying a NRX. I like high end stuff, but i like to have 1 rod to 1 technique. So i can’t have 15 NRX’s.
@БојанПавловић-е3й4 ай бұрын
In my case Expride line made me very rational guy. Im a euro who always liked made in usa, made in japan rods. But its ridiculous how well construted and crafted is Expride. I can confidently tell that it puts on shame imx pro line in terms of sensitivity. I see no reason sending money on anything pricier. The only con of shimano is their warranty but so far i have had 0 issues with both A and B series. A modern $200 rods comparing with those 30 years ago are hyper sensitive so i agree with you statement that if you cant feel the bite with $200 rod its not rod its fisherman.
@floydmayes49245 ай бұрын
If you consider rods made by Shimano high end, more power to you. I personally DON'T!!!
@walden62725 ай бұрын
I have a better idea. Why don't you pass your NRX rod around to all your viewers so everyone can take turn using it, so it will solve the problem of wondering what's it like. Telling us it's not worth it is not as convincing. We should all experience it and make that judgement. So ship it to me first, then I'll use it for 1 month and then I'll ship it to the next viewer. After everyone uses it, you get it back. Everyone wins. 😊
