Wow it's what I want to practice! I've wondered for a while how some people can go up to a steeper hill along the tracks, hope I can make it next winter😊

Today Ill go and try it. Thanks for a great hint! Just to give some insight I am just skiing for a good feeling of it and did not learn from professionals. I am at my 50 and by classic skiing my usual speed average is between 9-10km/h (20-40km / 400-800 h.m.).

@k2nicol It did!!! Thanks a lot. It is literally a miracle 😂. I am tetsting skin skies rather hard for my weight. Only strong push has some grip. Yesterday on mostly frozen track the grip was really poor. I could tell the difference. Thanks!! 👍

Very useful - thanks. This and your other video about this topic are very relevant to the stage I am currently at in classic skiing. I am trying to balance better on my gliding ski and am noticing this slapping occurring. I shall try and correct this based on your helpful advice.

Balance is the hallmark of skate skiing. When switching skis, almost click your ankles together before switching your weight. Keeps your center of gravity over the ski without lurching from one to the other.
@k2nicol7 күн бұрын
I call the click of the ankles the boot touch which is the same thing....thanks for the note

Fast wax recommends polishing paste wax with a "speed block"...haven't tested how quickly it wears off with and without using the speed block

I've ordered a pair of Snowfeet but are curious which size poles to get for this. Would you say cross country-height poles or skating-height poles work best? Thanks for the helpful video!
@k2nicol12 күн бұрын
Well I have used them for both classic and skate so depends which technique...let me know how they work for you...my main objective was to use them as a fun learning tool for getting 1 footed balance for xc skiing.

One of my biggest problems is at 2:23 where I slide out when the deck is very hard packed. I feel like a pro when there's fresh snow or even churned up sugar on the trail because I can confidently glide and push without flailing. I'll try more edge, but I'm afraid I'll develop a bad habit of not landing on a flat ski for glide. Any tips?
@k2nicol12 күн бұрын
Hard pack or icy conditions are challenging ....both to get a good push off and also for gliding on a flat ski...try abit less push off since you likely have enough speed and concentrate on landing on that flat ski...that might give you more confidence

Thanks Keith.. Im a nordic inst in eldora ..its.my first yr teaching ..this weekehd my first private and group .. Any advice on private vs group .ive shadowed our more experienced instructors ..so i got their take on it ..but im.coming more from a naturalist point of view .. Its a sport yes but beyond more if a way of life and being more connected to the wilds of the forest ..since much of our nordic trails here at eldora are in national forest .very few open flat areas..thanks for your great content

With private lessons you likely need to ask what that person wants to improve on and go from there..I use video with many private lessons to help with feedback...of course with group lessons you need to do the same thing but with more people less chance to do video and individual focus is less . Hope this helps

I must be doing something wrong, because whenever I stand up to kick, the ski just slips backwards and I get 0 propulsion. I have to lunge in order to get the scales to bite into the snow at all. 4 year old video, but if anyone sees this and has a suggestion, I would appreciate it. Seem to be getting by just fine with my "incorrect technique" so far, though.

I used one of these benches last week when I was on a xc ski trip with a friend who had one. Far lighter than our old & heavy Swix one (Swix came out with a lighter one after we bought ours). The Xcman bench worked really well, as well as the heavier bench, though the heavier bench can take a ski form or clamps on each side, so 2 people can wax at the same time. After using the Xcman bench though, I think I’d prefer 2 of these lightweight benches if we needed to wax several pairs of skis, rather than the one heavier one.
@k2nicolАй бұрын
You are right ..with this bench you can only do one ski at at time ....they do have a double bench as well although I have not tested it so can't comment on it.

The ability to keep an athletic body position with hip (center of mass) over the feet is to push down our push off from the mid foot in order to transfer your center of mass (weight shift) over to the other ski so that you can balance on that ski which allows the leg and foot in back to hang with ski off the snow. You're now balancing and gliding. Now the body movement of flexing the ankle, knee to push off again recreates the 3 skills of xc skiing. The timing of the push off comes when the arms come to parallel position along the waist as the arms swing diagonally forward and back for extra body forward motion. Try the drill without poles. Slow and easy then progress to more power and tempo.

Good points..I do alot of no pole skiing early in the season to regain balance and appropriate stance
@gregklave17142 ай бұрын
The formula for Continuous Forward Motion is Push Off creates Weight Shift to give you Balance on 1 ski = Glide. Repeat.

Mountain biking is fantastic for having fun in the forest when there's no snow. So actually almost the whole year. For me a perfect combination with xc skiing and I enjoy both activities a lot. Just don't forget about building the foundation - I mean strength and mobility before the xc skiing season. I'm too lazy for that and doing only mtb & skiing is not enough for my body as I'm struggling sometimes with back pain - so IMO mtb is awesome but still not enough to be healthy.

Do they feel slow in the tracks?
@werdnativ2 ай бұрын
Just in time for ski season! I first saw this tire exercise from @LawrenceVanLingen as a drill for running form. The cue there is NOT about initiating with a forward lean of the body, but rather to stay balanced over the feet and create forward shift by extending through the hip with a more powerful push to the rear. I might suggest you also try this with a longer rope and a simple loop to set the height around the hip joints directly with the rope, rather than a belt over the waist.
@sylvainmichaud22622 ай бұрын
To get top results, use crossover tires.

It needs to be snow-rated, obviously.

If your ski's aren't leaving the track, it's equivalent to trying to run without lifting your feet of the ground. That's called walking.

So the read is it's pretty much a normal alpine turn until the part where you would kinda pick up your uphill ski to keep it parallel, at which point you ease the uphill ski into parallel by dippin' into the tele stance. So is the point of the stance to spread out the supporting edge in the crotch of the turn to create a more robust suspension out of your body position? I just picked up tele gear... it's September, but I'm stoked to learn. It's gonna be fun.
@k2nicol4 ай бұрын
Eventually you get rid of the snowplow stance to start and keep skis parallel but using the tele stance throughout

I'm having trouble with my kick. I have marwe skis, and madshus boots, which don't have much ankle support, I think. Do I need carbon cuffs as well?
@k2nicol5 ай бұрын
Usually with classic ankle support is less important than with skating...but you do need some support. I tend to use combi boots since it covers both techniques with one boot..less gear and cost needed. You could try our on line roller ski sessions if you want some feedback on your skiing. If you try the cuffs let me know how they work

I noticed while you are standing on the balance board, your heal is positioned at the far edge. I bought one recently, and wanted to know what part of my foot should I have centered on the board. Should I have the dead center of my foot on the centerpoint, or should I align the balls of my feet with it, etc. Im trying to develop strength in particular my toes to push down, if that makes sense.
@k2nicol6 ай бұрын
I think I try to put the ball of foot over the center...that would put my heel back abit..
