It's wild the difference in operating at 60-70% humidity with 95 degree temps vs. the same temperatures with dry air out West, also the lines of sight and ease of use using NV and thermal in a desert vs. in the Southeast where everything fogs up immediately. It's good to see discussion on an overlooked environment.

Your generation is weird AF. You can make pouches for next to nothing if you get some needles and a few tools which are cheap. Ive never seen one of you with even a Sawyer water filter. You aint gon boil a liter of water every time you get thirsty. Wheres your salt for when you sweat? You need a salt bag. You guys dont take care of your water system, or even have one.

I see ticks the other way from the branches above your head. I’ve seen ticks covering a branch and they drop in your hair or on your back. Especially around cows as I’m at in East TN. I’ve never had chiggers oddly enough but hear of them.

@jefferyboring4410 I love east TN. You get a bit further into the lowlands of the piedmont region and it becomes a lot shittier in almost every way. The Appalachian portions come with their own challenges but the flora and fauna aren't quite as bad. The elevation changes are the big challenge there with things like route selection.

Living in East Tn . It gets so hot I regularly get migraines and puke. It may take 24 hrs to recover enough to be useful. The thing I’d say is most helpful if in such an environment is a dug out spot. U can’t rely on A/C so if u can prep a good deep spot to retire into that’s the ticket. The ground is cooler in the high 60s
@sectorseven07
@sectorseven07 Күн бұрын
@jefferyboring4410 Yeah once you reach about 40 inches into the ground the ground temperature hovers around the high 50s as you start to approach the water table. It's why our Indians used dugouts for all their food storage. Definitely critical. Also digging in helps clear the area of critters and keep them away better.

@CrowDawg11
@CrowDawg11 7 күн бұрын
@@sectorseven07 yeah the only thing multicam is going to blend in with in the Southeast is your brown lawn in the winter lol you might as well be wearing desert 3 color. In your video intro you stood out from your surroundings a lot. Multicam is a good option that made a lot of sense for a large organization like the army that has to buy hundreds of thousands or millions of uniforms and doesn't want to (or can't afford to) be buying that quantity of uniform items in multiple different patterns. For individual users who only have to outfit themselves, almost anything else is more effective. Marpat woodland, M81, tigerstripe, Rhodesian brushstroke, Mossy Oak/RealTree, hell, plain olive green would blend better in a forest than multicam, which was designed with arid/semiarid environments in mind as that was the current theater of operations when it was designed. People love the multicam because it's what the army wears so it must be cool but the truth is that in a lush woodland environment like the Southeast, there are many better options for people who are not constrained by the economies of scale the army needs to account for.

things i consider a necessity for my kit in NC, mosquito head net, bug spray (you will call someone a pussy for using it until you wake up to 200 ants eating at your leg when you have to walk a few miles), some type of sun screen, water purification (normally a bottle with a filter will work fine for most things unless youre dealing with stagnant water), id also recommend some type of cooling wipes, the humidity in NC is high a LOT and cooling wipes could literally save you from heat stroke, luckily we have water everywhere you can jump into, i also keep some type of head warming thing on me normally a beanie (preferably wool of fleece, for the love of christ guys realize its wet everywhere and its better to be wet and warm then constantly worrying about your stuff not being dry), wool gloves, wool socks (even if its summer ill have at least one pair), my entire kit is based on sustainment, distance, NC is full of hills and vegetation you can always break contact, and we dont live in beirut so i mainly have all this stuff so i can guy hiking and camping split rigs, belt kits, and chest rigs are the prime thing id use, i would never try to operate in the wilderness here with a full plate setup, im not going to assault things in general, and if im defending i want to be getting away not hunkering down to take rounds, i want as much breathability as possible while keeping my skin covered

@@sectorseven07 eventually we will get some type of plates or plate carrier that is actually breathable, it makes sense if youre planning on attacking something but even then id rather buy a slick carrier i can put in my bag with lightweight ceramic plates until i need to put it on, i think a lot of people would benefit from trying out a LOP near a trailhead or something and realizing how bored they would get having a full assault kit on when they're sitting still or how exhausted theyd get walking up and down hills even if theyre on a trail

Proper consumption of electrolytes also. Just because you drink water doesn't mean you are hydrating properly. Electrolytes packets and salt are key. A squad leader in my company, on that rotation, had all his men drink a canteen of water every hour for days prior and they all heat catted by the first day, because they pissed all their electrolytes out. A fine balance in the field, especially with a lack of water, food or medical aid.
