1. This is Ueshiba's exercise. you have no idea about aikido. 2. Ueshiba did not like Koichi Tohei.

I do not get the Hakkama. Everyone is already wearing a pant of trousers. Other than tradition, I see no point of wearing the Hakkama. Ok, that's off topic. ... You're a good Sensei, by the way. White belts would appreciate that gentle voice and patience.

These are good sensitivity drills. Don't confuse this with something you would actually do in a fight. I'm not saying what he's teaching is wrong in fact it's very right but you have to learn how to apply things tactically from the person is trying to do something to you and you're trying to stop that person from doing it to you but at the same time you're trying to do something to them but the principle is good because if you can create a strong root which is what he's doing when he brings the force to his center of gravity and be able to do that without losing your own center of gravity or losing your own balance and to be able to break your opponents center of gravity for break his balance is a very useful tool in any fight if your opponent gets off balance he can't defend himself. In a real situation a person isn't just going to fall down or roll out do a fancy throw like that but you got to keep in mind and aikido when they roll out like that that is a way of preserving themselves in other words when you see aikido demonstration see a basic wrist lock and the person rolls out or is thrown as a part of the demonstration the real application of the technique is not the throw it's the wrist lock and the person that's doing the falling is doing so because if they don't move if they don't neutralize that Force the risk can be shattered and I'm talking about in a real confrontation with no holes bar you can defend yourself very successfully with aikido if you approach it from a serious attitude. I say that not as a criticism of the instructor or the system like I said the technique is good the principle is good I just don't want people to get the false impression that in a real fight it's going to be neat and pretty you know and I don't want them to get the wrong impression that because it looks so choreographed that it's not something that can be used in a real situation it's just a drill to teach you a principle and it's up to you and your instructor to train yourself so that you can apply that principle in a real life situation but if you get it down well enough if you can do it correctly then it's very difficult for your opponent to defend themselves against your attack the idea again is to maintain your balance at all times and to break your opponents balance at all times and if your opponent is off balance even if he hits you the strike is going to be ineffective because in order to have power you have to be balanced and stable so I hope that helps someone my credit to the sensei.

Curious about this as it's very different from the dozen videos I watched before it. As I can see from the comments below, most view this in a negative light. I on the other hand like your video but wish you'd reply to the now ancient comments... WHAT STYLE/SCHOOL is this? WHY is it so different?

I really liked watching the video. I agree 100% with everything he demostrated/said in the first 1 minute of the video...and then training/styles diverge. Still, that is a lot compared to what I normally see online. Nice accuracy with the tsuki! It is hard to hit a vertical target like that!

You’re missing context, these are throws, the fight very well might be over after one of those being applied properly That said, most techniques fail and unless you specifically saw an opening for it, you’re better off just running away. Which aikido teaches.

I'm not sure what Aikido school or style this is although it goes against everything I was taught for choku tsuki, shomen uchi etc. If I bobed around like that I'd of been dropped to the ground by the sensei as a lesson. might seem harsh although unlearning bad habits is worse :-/

If she throws herself, you don't have to do Aikido either. And there might be an attacker who punches hard, and after that his arm becomes a noodle, or is pulled back, or whatever. So, in this cases Aikido dosn't work? I think, if that happens, your timing is wrong. Real attackers don't throw themselfes.

Thank you for this. I remember that there is also a whole-body moving/twirling movement, a stepping forward with a turn which ends you up facing the other direction from the start, and I wonder if there is a companion movement to the rear?

Yes, and the poor audio impacts the closed captions (for those who are hard of hearing)! He mentions the essentials, 'movement, center, ...' and heavy followup? That last doesn't seem to make sense to me, but it's been a long time, & only a couple months of intro.

Lol. I took Aikido in high school (after school, not an elective), and having learned to do this saved me during pugil stick training (Army Infantry OSUT); lost my footing, back rolled to catch myself, and was back on my feet to re-engage the combatant. He let his guard down when I rolled, figuring he'd won the fight, and got a "bayonet" through the jaw for it.
