Thanks for commenting! I’m glad you enjoyed! On more remote trips i definitely make sure that I have sufficient food. In places like Algonquin I don’t mind feeling a bit hungry from time to time.

Hi, Thanks for the video. It was very useful. I have a question: Which system can call SAR if the user is unconscious and he is out of mobile networks. Garmin watch + inreach can not, told by Garmin dealer, because the user has to push the sos button on the inreach device or on the watch. He told also that neither Apple 14 or newer phone paired with an Apple watch can not do it, because they need in 50% mobile network also to know user's position. Do you confirm it? Is there a solution for this possible issue?

What an awesome part of the world you live in. The beauty, the wildness and the emptiness with awesome campsites. I live in the most beautiful area of England but I envy the solitude that you find. It is a totally different experience in a densely populated landscape. I look forward to more of your adventures. For solitude I flee to Scotland with my kayak even then it is hard to find.
@kevinthewild23 күн бұрын
I certainly don’t take it for granted Ian. I’m very grateful to have such incredible wilderness areas to explore. Although you may not be able to find the same kind of solitude, England and Scotland most definitely have some incredible places to paddle as well! That being said, you should definitely come experience the wilderness here at least once! Cheers!

@@kevinthewild I love the West coast of Scotland and I even managed four days without seeing another person on Loch Morar. I love the campsites that you have there in Canada. It is wild camping or busy campsites with caravans and camper vans in Scotland. In England apart from the high fells wild camping is mostly forbidden. We still live under a feudal system where the aristocracy own most of the land and prevent access. I would love to visit Algonquin. It is my dream destination. Love your videos look forward to more.

@@kevinthewild I'm so glad to hear that!😊 You have a very similar camping style to myself, as far as trying to keep food prep simplified. Currently, I mostly camp with my kayak, but definitely want to do more canoeing to get more remote with portaging. I'll be starting up a camping channel soon on my Dina's Tripping channel. I have so much footage and a new drone to test out. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated? Hope you will consider following as well. 🙏🌿🌞

Hey Kev, love your videos. Ive seen you use a couple different boat setups. Ive been looking for a similar setup using a double bladed oar. What kind of seat does this boat use?
@kevinthewildАй бұрын
Thanks Matt! This was a Swift Keewaydin 15 with a regular canoe seat. They also offer it with a pack seat. In my opinion this is one of the best solo canoes for lake travel. Very fast, especially with a kayak paddle.

I’m a recent subscriber as well as a seasoned canoeist in the Algonquin park. I’m currently recovering from reconstructive ankle surgery and enjoying your adventures to some of the area I’ve visited . I’m getting on in years (70) but still hope to visit again with my grandchildren, it is a special place. The fishing there is challenging, I had success after some local knowledge to use salted minnows with minnow rigging. Continued success and good health !

Another great video. Enjoyed it al lot, thanks for that 🍻 I’m ordering a Prospecteur 15 of my own for solo use here in Australia (in olive with wood trim) at the moment. It’s been good to watch you put one through its paces, seems ideal for my purposes. First time I’ve seen one with the second seat removed. Looks like it really opens the boat up for storage. Thinking I’ll be doing that with mine when it comes 🤔
@kevinthewildАй бұрын
Glad to hear that you enjoyed the video Scott! That’s a beautiful colour and trim combo for your Prospecteur! Olive green is my favourite colour. If you will be primarily using it solo, removing the front seat allows you to trim the boat really well by giving you room to put your pack up front. I definitely recommend it. Enjoy your new canoe!

@@kevinthewild hey mate, thanks a lot. Can’t wait to have a go at doing the sort of stuff you (and your compatriots) are doing. These sort of canoes haven’t had a big following here so far, but that’s definitely changing as the subtle advantages of them are becoming understood. I wish I’d learned more about them years ago 🤷♂️ Anyway, keep up the great work. I think I’ve now paddled over most of your waterways there with you now 🍻

I'm completely new to backpacking and even solo day hiking, and it almost felt silly to pay the money for an InReach, but after seeing a couple of videos about people needing to hit the SOS I decided to take the plunge. Obviously the hope is that you spend the money and never ever need it. But I can't imagine needing it and not having it.
@kevinthewild3 ай бұрын
It most definitely is a worthwhile investment. Good luck on your future adventures!
@ralphblach29522 ай бұрын
This is 2024 and you should not hike without a Personal Locator Beacon, (sold on Amazon) or a Garmin Inreach. These devices alert rescuers of your problems. These devices turn a search and rescue into a rescue. If you have the money, I think Inreach is the best because it allows for two-way communication with the Garmin Response Center. However, signaling an SOS does not mean a rescue will come promptly. As shown in this video, helicopters need good weather in which to fly. 1)You are only one step away from spending the night in the forest. 2) Always tell someone where you are going and when you are expected back 3) Make sure they know to call search and rescue if you are not back in the time frame. 4)Make sure when you hike you have adequate equipment to spend the night or two if you are forced to do so. 5)Take adequate food. 6)Purchase rescue insurance. It is easy to have safe Hikes in the National/state forests and Parks. Good luck
