Crazy how there were no indications there was running water under all of that snow. I appreciate this video because I never would have known to prepare for that!

Yeah definitely. It could have been a lot worse if the water had been deeper. Lesson learned that you can't ever be too cautious when you head off the beaten path in the winter. Thanks for stopping by :)

Lakes are frozen, Days are short, and the nights are sooooo cold. Does Kevin sit at home on his couch with a cup of hot cocoa and a fire in the fireplace? Well...Yeah, he's only human, but he also goes out in the wilderness to battle the snow gremlins and keep us entertained.

Hi Kev…. Nice to see you out. Wow, you were lucky the stream wasn’t deeper. Good idea that you got your wood before you went through the ice. Too bad about your tripod. You got dried out, brushed it off and enjoyed the solitude and beauty. I enjoyed your adventure and enjoyed the crackle of the fire. Take care friend. 👌🤗🥰👍 LilliStJohn

Excellent video Kev! Hard to tell on video, but make sure you've balmed those Hestras. Fantastic gloves made even better with conditioning.

Thanks for the tip! They came with a tube of balm but I hadn’t applied any. Cheers!

Some camp booties would've come in handy after the dunk in the water. Let you get those boots and socks off for drying. MEC makes some with nice gaiters attached, but I use a pair from Forty Below, which has a sole of sorts on them, letting you walk around in the snow with them around camp. Nice work not panicking and solving the problem.

@@kevinthewild1 Yup, I didn't put the balm on mine for nearly 2 years. Lost the pair, bought another because they were so good, and balmed them immediately. Highly recommend!!

I can't believe you stayed under a tarp !! I once did a February camp in Algonquin with 3 friends , we stayed in the only campground open and slept in an igloo ! It got to -35 at night lol but we took a propane heater and we had lots of blankets and sleeping bags. The only good thing about campground camping , you can take as much ad you can fir in the vehicle ( in this case a dodge van lol)

Dude, that was crazy!! It was impossible to see that coming in the middle of the bush like this! I recently did the same, up to my thighs, but knew there was a small stream where it happened, and I was just a 20 minute walk from home. So glad you got out of it ok, it very easily could've been a really serious problem! Sorry about the tripod though, that really sucks!

Oh vey! After watching your Killarney vid from last month I’d say you have a genuine affinity for booters 😂 Good strategy to deal with moisture. The other thing that is effective is to have Vapor Barrier socks along which can be as simple as bread bags or the fancy ones from MEC. How large is your winter backpack? Happy with it?
@kevinthewild1
@kevinthewild1 Жыл бұрын
Funny enough, I had considered bringing bread bags along with me for that purpose but I left them behind at the last minute. I’d say I’m a bit of a minimalist when it comes to gear. My pack is the same one I use for all my trips. It’s an 85 litre Osprey Aether AG. It’s a great pack. Stands up to a lot of abuse.
