Most gifted because he use trickshots when it's Unnecessary ? Its the most boring badminton athlete at the top level, specially when he is up against Kunlavut Vitidsarn. When he is up gainst someone who is better than him (not ranking wise) he is going for long rally , going for wasting so much time in between points. Check the time of his match. It's the only one where a lot of his match against any top20 can last more than 1 hours for just 2 sets .. And i dont need to talk about his match against Vitidsarn... most boring final in WC ever. He is just playing to exaust his opponent then try to make plays only once his opponent is tired. if it doesnt work he will go for clear over clear and slice drop shot. but yeah he is so gifted for using unnecessary trickshots when he is tired or way behind in scorepoints.

LD was the most perfect badminton player ever. There never was a talk about how a player could potentially beat LD if the player was in his prime. LD would beat anyone regardless of their potential.

regardless of the opponent's play style and how skilled they are, i never saw LD so rushed in the court due to pressure. he kept his chill and for some reasons his opponents tend to follow his play style and that play style dominates the game and LD still outplays. from clears, drives to net plays, oh boy you don't want to challenge LD on net plays. dude is so skilled that he rarely misses. im not glazing LD too much and I know that he's already old for the new generation of players and that's exactly it, it's just the age that puts him to disadvantage but the skill is still there. what I appreciate in his play style is that you teach yourself to be calm and composed regardless how tight the match it. it's an aura seen by your opponent that you don't easily get fazed

unpopular opinion but LD after 2010 was far more creative, dynamic, efficient and more interesting to watch as a result. but both versions are unbeatable.
@Nilesh-pj9ip7 күн бұрын
even ben beckman said that LD was a much more complete player after 2010, than compared to 2008 which people call his prime, those who understand and watch badminton will definitely say this, a lot of people say that 2008 lin dan was in his prime, well talking about athleticism and speed definitely that was his prime, but post 2010 lin dan was technically a better player, and if we were to match pre 2010 lin dan with 2008 lin dan i think post 2010 lin dan will win
@echidonut59107 күн бұрын
in speed and stamina aspect, 2008-2009 was definitely Lin Dan’s peak especially 2008 olympics. I’ve watched badminton for 8 years and i have never seen such a powerful athlete in badminton history But in mental, techniques, court iq aspect. 2011 was the peak
@Nilesh-pj9ip7 күн бұрын

I just want to add a former Indonesian world champion and Thomas Cup champion Arbi and Japan’s Tago both said the most impressive thing about LD is his legs, you can’t fluster a prime LD out of position. China and LD’s coach Xia also said similar thing, a prime LD’s core and lower body is so stable, it’s what made him different. Tago said a perfect player for him would have Momota’s racket skill and LD’s legs. There is a saying amongst Chinese coaches, amateur or novice first look at racket skills, expert first look at legs, when they are evaluating a player.
@winniesuwarni8747 күн бұрын
by his leg, you mean his footwork right?
@linshanshi7 күн бұрын
@@winniesuwarni874it's his leg ,that's why although LCW footwork is fast and good ,but his leg isn't as strong and stable as LD
@Phat-rj3jo6 күн бұрын
@ no, more than footwork, it’s the physicality of his legs. Fast, explosive, and stable, which his coach Xia said it seems like LD moves on a horizontal line on the court, his body doesn’t bob up and down.
@muhdsazlly45106 күн бұрын
But for me Lee Hyung Ill legs are far superior than Lin Dan or Lee Chong Wei. He just gliding in the court. I think one of the coach in china also mention that LHI footwork slightly better than LD. If I remember it correctly. Anyways, LD post 2010 are more stable and fierce than pre 2010. Why I said it, because he really control the court like he was the boss of it. U may smash as hard as possible, but he returned it so casually or counter it.
@Phat-rj3jo6 күн бұрын
@ yeah but that’s footwork, that’s not what these former players were referring to. Lee doesn’t have the explosiveness of LD, offensively or defensively. You are talking about a technical attribute, they were referring to a physical attribute.

I’ll input some observations I have over the years watching Lin Dan. As you mentioned, post-2010 Lin Dan was focused on control. I want to point out how he mastered the skill of maximizing pressure off of defensive/neutral shots (clears, nets, drops, drives, etc…). Part of what helped him achieve this was his extremely precise shot selection and also his perfect disguise. You can see that there is a difference in how he strokes the shuttle over the years particularly to achieve the latter. 0:40 is a perfect example of how he was able to use the same motion for completely different shots which was something pre-2010 Lin Dan was yet to develop. 2011 was the peak of Lin Dan’s control play style, played like a grandmaster and still had the most lethal smash. I argue that 2011 is the strongest version of Lin Dan but didn’t look as impressive because he wasn’t as flashy and he was also known to struggle with motivation at this time.

@mr.d0nk3y7 күн бұрын
Thanks for the great observation and analysis. The old Lin Dan had more control, overall playstyle, his defence was superd, rarely making any mistakes, he could play fast and could also slower the opponents' pace to match his one if he wants. I personally love the young Lin Dan and his fast pace, aggressive attacking playstyle but I still think the old Dan can easily defeat his younger self if they have to fight each other in a match lol

I think it is in the opinion of a few former player that the 2012 LD can beat the 2008 LD, like Japan’s Tago said in a video of his.

i need someone to interview LD on why he changed his style so early (imo). i hear they said it was because of a coach or something. like, is it really impossible to stay as an LD attacker style late in your life?
@EternalCog7 күн бұрын
I still think it was due to injury prevention, his pace and movement speed coupled with these jumps and direction changes, you don‘t see a single player doing it nowadays, except very very young players, His older playstyle wouldn‘t be maintainable for long, and to last longer in the badminton scene he would have to switch to another playstyle at some point anyway, i guess his coaches and himself decided it was time :)

In some of the interview,he said he can only get point from attacking,and after more and more mature in skill and mental ,attack is just a choice
