A hundred years later it still looks modern.

Not that impressed by the design. If they use glass canopy, they should put tons of plants to use the sunlight. But I don't see rows and rows of orchids or other plants. Otherwise, they would just get the "greenhouse effects", which make the building expensive to cool or heat.

I haven't seen it up close, but I love it and I think I would love it even more. A perfect example of the allure of a plethoric ensemble, a rich environment. Not like the typical notion that architecture has to be a single homogenised shape.

Initial estimate was as low as £10m with a £40m absolute maximum depending on materials used. Marble instead of sandstone etc. It ended up costing £414m nearly half a billion to build the ugliest building in Scotland that isn't fit for purpose and no likes to look at and hate visiting. its in the wrong place and is the wrong size and outlay. The councillors who supported this diabolical waste of tax payers money don't care.

It's said he objected to a vase of daffodils put in the hall by Mrs Blackie because they were the wrong colour. Whether this is true or not - it is argued about - the fact that it is believable says a lot about him; it was not his house but he thought he could tell them what to do with their home.
