In driving school, we were taught to use see where the road markings were intercepting the hood of the car. They are more consistent than dirt/oil in the center of the road. One thing, don't keep your attention fixed on what's 5 feet from the hood of your car, all the stuff you need to watch out for and react to is down the road. Drunks get too focused on the immediate, start swerving and get into accidents... same with texters.

Absolutely correct; please watch my other videos where I talk about reference points on the vehicle: they are essential for successful road navigation. And looking for the discoloration in the road is yet another, more subtle aid to proper navigation; many skills go into it. Thanks for your comment.

Use your mirrors constantly. You'll be able to see both sides of your vehicle in relation to road markings and adjust your vehicle position accordingly. Your situational awareness will also improve massively.

Lol no. It’s for humanoids who earnestly want to learn how to be excellent road navigators on planet earth and any other planets which might support motorized vehicles. Clearly you are already such a navigator, so this post would not have interest for you. But there are countless others who depend on posts like this to help guide them through their journey towards a lifetime of safe and successful interplanetary highway navigation.

@@cinnamonrollypoly unfortunately, it is not instinctive at all, it is a skill that needs to be learned. Most of us learn it at a very young age, in our teens, and so we master it, and then it does come as second nature to us. But there are also countless people who do not have the opportunity to learn to navigate the roads when they’re in their teens, and so when they’re in their 20s and 30s and so forth, they’re just starting to learn these skills. I cannot tell you how many students I’ve taught who are older and yet are not comfortable with nor adept at this seemingly simple yet crucial and otherwise difficult skill. And to them, I say that it is just that: a skill, and they will certainly master it in time and with enough practice.

I hate riding with other drivers who don't understand the advantage of spacing. Idiots who try to maintain a constant speed make me want to scream. Clear road ahead and fast approaching traffic behind I speed up. Nothing behind me and dense traffic ahead I slow down. I can almost always find the empty stretch of highway.
@lyletulloch606
@lyletulloch606 2 ай бұрын
Excellent points. Sometimes students ask, "Shouldn't I keep up with the [speeding] flow of the traffic?" And I say, "Why? So you can get a ticket or get into an accident?" Those speeders are breaking the law and putting everyone in danger. So maintain your speed according to the posted limit, keep a good distance of space in front of you at all times, and you'll be among the safest drivers on the road.

Thanks for your suggestion, Sakina, and for your interest in our mission of Driving to Save Lives. I'll give the captions a try; my only reservation is that the captions can sometimes block out the bottom part of the video, and in videos like these, that would be the tires and the roadway, which of course are pertinent to the maneuver. But again, I'll consider giving it a try and seeing if it helps. Thanks again.

Sir, How can you tell from the driver's point of view when the front bumper of your car passes the rear bumper of the car in front of you?
@lyletulloch606
@lyletulloch606 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking. You have to watch the bumper of the car in front and then estimate everything you do in relation to that, and the amount of space you need before turning will depend entirely upon the length of the bumper of your own car. So if your car has a long bumper, then you will estimate more space, and if your car has a very short bumper, you can estimate less space. But before you turn the wheel, you must be certain that your bumper will not hit the car in front, so you will estimate when your bumper is clearing the car in front and then give your car plenty of space to make the parallel parking turn.
