Love the socket and suspension system you are using. Also, as a fellow amputee I can relate to pouring sweat out of a liner. I would enjoy hearing about your sweat management and skin care routines. In the summer I use an antiperspirant spray and something called Liquid Powder, both sold by the Amputee Store. Keep up the great videos.

I use mycota athletes foot powder to deal with any sweat rashes. last ditch remedy is the spray on form of Daktarin Aktiv which stings & hurts like hell but does the business for me & reduces the rashes. I would suggest trying that on a small patch of skin first to check your reaction!

I changed to elevated vacuum and liked it at first. Then, I realized it made my phantom pain infinitely worse. After TMR surgery, my nerves are so close to my skin…so close that touching or resting many parts of my RL cause steering nerve pain. I have no protective fat and am literally skin, bone and muscle. I also had a bad time with sweat and my liner slipping off constantly. I finally went back to passive (I’m a BKA). My prosthetist made me feel like I was the only amputee that ever had these issues 🤔.

Have you considered Osseointegration to the prosthetic leg Christina? Would that not be the ultimate connection system? As always, you are awesome. Best wishes from Scandinavia.

I was thinking, she could be a good candidate for it. I know a couple people with osseointegration. They are doing well with it

I’m not interested. There is an 80% complication rate. 40% need to have them removed. The rest have superficial or deep infections. Sure 20% do well with it and have no issues but that’s too high a complication rate for me.

My comment as a self builder (& user) of above knee leg units, is that knee joint looks far too low to me. If it was higher you would be able to sit more comfortably & may be able to articulate the knee joint better in the swing phase, given the length of your residual limb. Personally I have always found that placing the knee joint higher than the other remaining knee is much better operationally overall. I expect your prosthetist must stick to the "rules" on this placement, which I don't have to though :)
@AmputeeOT
@AmputeeOT 2 жыл бұрын
He doesn’t have to stick to any rules, my pylon was cut for my previous length and it’s too short to go higher. And it’s a $7900 one because it’s for an X3. But I’m getting a taller foot and then the knee axis will be higher.

@@AmputeeOT OK, well glad the "rules" dont apply & things are due to be fettled further! The "rules" seemed to apply when I was in the UK NHS system, on knee placement, materials usage & some other things. I can only experiment using cheaper second hand items because as we know prosthetics manufacturers will not sell directly to customers in many countries (if not all). Thankfully there is a healthy secondhand market in prosthetics, many of which are repairable with the right tooling & skills. I have yet to purchase anything secondhand with microprocessors as I find the Otto Bock 3R80 to be one of the most reliable units on the market suitable for my needs. However I will maybe purchase some C legs soon & give that unit a try out! I have got a prosthetic foot bench test partly in the can, 8 different types, suprisingly (or not) the carbon fibre ones I have are not comparing well to some of the non fibre older units.

Did you have a cast/mold made for that check socket? I am waiting for my first one (ever) and when i called to schedule for the casting the receptionist said it would be next week because he was still waiting for my check socket to come in (i didn't say why i was scheduling, just that i needed to) from THE CAST HE'D MADE. When i said he hadn't made a cast yet she seemed taken aback then said; "well from the measurements or whatever he did..." I know from watching you how important a good fit is, so am deeply concerned about this 'development'. Should i be? Thank you for all you do, and thanks for taking the time to respond if you can. Ps My prosthetist is an amputee himself.

I have done both. The one for my peg leg was originally from measurements. It was later modified as my nub changed shape and then modified again when I had my revision. The one for my walking leg is from a cast.

Dumping the sweat out if there’s too much, letting it dry and putting it back on. Cleaning it daily.
