@@debbiegaines1362 hi 👋 It's just the back side of a silicone texture sheet. The type of texture sheets are horrible for polymer clay because they're too soft. If you have them laying around, they're great for this. In the long form video I show other things you can use instead. I also have links in the description on that video.. The video is linked at the bottom of this short ❤️😘

Very pretty. I’m not very good at shaving such a thin layer when my stacks of color are already thin, thickest setting on my pasta machine. I’ve recently been practicing but some of them have colors that turned out gross. Lol I agree that backfilling is the best way to do this. You never have to worry about paint peeling out or something like dirt or dust sticking to the liquid clay part if the piece gets warm, like if you were out moving and forgot to remove it, or whatever. I think you get what I’m saying here. I’ve done one project using backfilling. Jessima Tutorials, several years ago, had a tutorial where you cut out little circles/dots and put them on a piece of raw clay then backfill. I did my dots on the thickest setting. I cured all of the dots before I put them on the raw clay, using liquid clay then cured that. After they were cured and cooled I did the backfilling. The hardest part was the edges, especially since my dots were so thick, was getting the clay filled around the edges of the base. Oh the base was on the thickest setting as well. I’m sure the base and the dots could have been thicker but I wanted to make sure I had enough thickness that I would be able to really sand without removing the dots. Wish I had a pic. About a 2 1/2 inch round base. The dots go on the same side of the clay, had to make that clear or the next part won’t make sense. (Still may not lol) I covered half with black dots and half with red dots. I backfilled with the opposite color. Cured then sanded and buffed. I’ll have to dig through my bags and boxes of experiments to see if I can find it and put a pic on my Instagram.

@@Esoteric_Designs thanks for watching! If you're talking about doing a mokume gane, the colors will get muddy if the layers are too thin, if the colors next to each other make mud when mixed, or sometimes if you don't have a lighter/darker color for contrast. I remember that tutorial! I think she actually has done a couple using the dots & backfilling, but maybe it was just one. It was so cool. I was actually just thinking about that the other day 😃 I bet yours was really pretty with opposite colors. I'd love to see it if you can find it! If you find it, you're welcome to message it to me. Again thank you for watching & commenting & chatting with me! I love the interaction ❤️😘😉

Thank you! I really like the improvements I've made to it this year. There's still so much more if like to do. You definitely have the goods to go for it. I will say though...it's ridiculously expensive. Not only all the stuff to set up your booth, but the vendor fees for good shows can be anywhere from several hundred up to several thousand! I've never done any that expensive, but I have done several that are a few hundred just for the vendor fees. I have even done a few where I actually lost money. I didn't sell enough to cover my fees, travel costs, etc. It's SO heartbreaking when that happens. It's just all part of it though!
