Actually, when it was still a postoffoce you wouldn't wanna go there after dark. Hobo/junky hangout spot. Now, it's been hipstered up & and they've done a very nice job. Same goes for Hoog Catharijne btw, that was like one big house for junkies.

I've noticed (as a tourist and hobby linguist) in the Netherlands last year, some notable languages I heard were: -Frisian (Amsterdam, but mostly in northern-North Holland and Friesland) -Flemish (Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and in the south near Belgium) -and Afrikaans (diaspora in Amsterdam, Utrecht, enz.) With the exception of Frisian, Flemish and Afrikaans are highly mutually intelligible to Netherlands Dutch and often I see two people just communicating each other fairly well without having switch to English or a lingua franca until they get to the more distinctive phrases and vocabularies where mutual intelligibility begins to fall apart. Flemish for example uses many loanwords and vowel shifts influenced by the French and Afrikaans has more influences from other European colonial languages, Indonesian, plus local influences from Zulu, Xhosa, and the like.

I guess i am an early bird. And i turn into a pessimist as soon as i have less than 5 minutes. 10 if its a big station and i dont know where my transfer is, or when i still need to buy a ticket. I mean, the train could be early! IT COULD HAPPEN! 🤪 ok, it really doesnt and if it would, the train would wait until the correct departure time... but still, better be prepared for the impossible anyway 🤣

As a German, having 3 trains on time is the hard to believe fact. Here, the optimist thinks, even if we are late, the train will be later or we just can take the train that was supposed to arrive 1 hour earlier, but is 1h and 5mins late, today 😂 Seeing a real 1st world country where the transport ministry is not just an outlier of the car manufacturers and/or bavarian arty bribery, makes you so jealous.
@forklessКүн бұрын
As a Dutch national living near the Dutch German border having used both rail systems I will concur on the scheduling issues. That said, we Dutch still love to complain about our public transportation infrastructure -- or anything else for that matter, that is just part of our DNA .
