Even if the hand disrupts the flow of energy... that energy sorta represents a point of resistance that the character was starting to overcome. So even if he doesn't like it, that hand gesture might have better represented the transition that the character was going through at that point. Especially since there were starting to be in sink, but seb was still stuck in the past.
