For the length, it's really got some power! Am really enjoying it, and loving the roller mech. That said, the old gun (Scorpia 90cm) has been perfect for 99% of my spearfishing. Once the hype of the new gun deflates a little, I'll likely go back to the Scorpia, especially when the vis is bad. Keen to see the rollergun when you put it together.

Cheers mate! Pretty scary how good they capture footage. Sometimes it seems clearer than the actual water! I'm currently running 4K 60fps 16:9 with Ultrawide and Rocksteady+. Love what the field of view in Ultrawide can capture, but it can get a bit shaky. I'm using AWB and D-Log M for colour. Looks amazing to watch back, but have had some issues with the way the raw video interacts with Premiere Pro.

Cheers mate. Yeah, that first fish with the new camera at 06:11 was with camera in one hand and gun in the other. Definitely looks smoother with it on the nogging. Will try slow down and tidy up movements when editing in the future. Did try a couple of slowmos in the clip. One with the gopro at 04:55 and with the DJI at 05:58. DJI wins that round (filmed at 60fps) but not sure what the GoPro was set at.

I speared a marble at bridport, tried cooking it, it was fucked. There isn't enough lemon and pepper in the world to fix that fish.
@CameronSmithDiving24 күн бұрын
It's definitely not the top pick of fish to be cooked whole! You'd want to make sure you dispatch and care for the catch to keep the flesh as clean as possible. Fillet and skin too. The flesh itself doesn't seem all that bad if the effort is put in. Out of curiosity, how big was the fish you caught and what colour was the flesh? I guess the larger fish may have worse meat. The dishes over this weekend were all amazing. I think any Tassie fishing enthusiast wouldn't believe it was marblefish if they tasted them! But yeah, a good amount of effort went into them all!
@abwdagreat24 күн бұрын
@CameronSmithDiving it was a few years ago now mate if I had to guess size I'd probably say 400mm and the flesh had a green tinge to it. It was cooked whole with some lemon and pepper. I have absolutely no issues with wrasse but will never spear a marble ever again.

Zebrafish have a firm white flesh. Great for fish tacos or any dish you want good chunks in. They also tend to have pretty decent yield for their size. Similar to drummer species. It can be a bit veiny, but as long as you brain spike and bleed it properly, the meat is tasty.

Spearfishing with a polespear is certainly doable. More challenging than using a speargun. If you can get good with a polespear, you'll be great if you decide to upgrade to a speargun.

Keep an eye on weather conditions, and find a nice sheltered bay out of the weather. Look on Google maps for such places with reef or structure. Seagrass and rubble also offer different sealife. Headlands generally have more fish activity, but that's due to currents. Probably best to keep the younger spearos inside the bay until they are more confident and capable at swimming and understanding ocean conditions.

No license is required to spear fish in coastal waters around Tasmania in 2024. You do need a license for lobster, abalone, and scallops. Use the Fishing Tas app to check for any restrictions in certain areas.

@CameronSmithDiving10 ай бұрын
Kingies do come through, not as commonly speared here, though. Same with snapper. Anywhere on the East Coast is awesome. Only issue is that not many employment opportunities match the cost of housing over that side. Sensational for camping trips and shore diving.

@@CameronSmithDiving which spots are actually cheap to buy/good for spearing?
@CameronSmithDiving10 ай бұрын
@@joek292 If you can get to Hobart, Freedive Tasmania specialises in Freediving gear, and GoDive have a huge range of gear. Can always ask GoDive to match Adreno prices too. If you're in Launceston, you've got Tasmanian Divers Group. Adreno is the big name online for Australia (almost like the Australian Amazon for diving). Their prices are pretty good, but there can be issues that you won't have to worry about if buying local. I'd recommend that you get fit out at your closest dive shop, then order stuff online if you really want an item and can't find it here.

So many awesome ways to do ceviche! The wrasse one was a little different, in that we used a bit of a soy, ginger, chilli sauce in with it. The other one was a traditional Chilean style ceviche. Personally, I like to use more lime than lemon, usually going a 2:1 ratio (or sometimes completely lime). A bit of sesame oil is also a great trick! I've posted another video with a herring cale ceviche, which is a go-to of mine including some Mexican spices: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gaSXoJV8hq6qg6s Not the most sought after fish, but gotta be my favourite for a ceviche!

Nice vid. About 12 years ago I visited Tassie and dived Binalong and the Bay of Fires. While looking for crays I swear blind I saw a good kilo + rock blackfish (black drummer). I'm from NSW and have shot many hundreds of them over the years so was dead certain. I was told that they don't go that far south. Are they ever seen in Tas?
@CameronSmithDiving Жыл бұрын
I haven't shot one mate, but have been with a mate that shot one at Bicheno. Both black and silver drummer are on the East Coast of Tassie (at least over the last few years). I reckon you probably saw one!
@kaeolandon-lane3429 Жыл бұрын
@mistergormsby they are down here, the other day I shot a 55cm silver drummer out of Fortescue Bay. Binalong ends up getting a lot of northern species because of its proximity to the East Australian Current- it’s why it has huge urchin barrens whereas they haven’t reached further south as extensively yet.
