Unrelated to the product in this video, but I've noticed that you haven't been wearing the G1 glasses at all in recent videos. Has this been a conscious choice to not detract focus from the product you're reviewing (making this comment ironic if that is the case); or have you just not touched the G1's since reviewing them (and if this is the case, what was your reason for not keeping them as daily driver tech)?

I've got one for a couple of weeks, and am not particularly impressed. Can't get the original cover, so it came "naked" which makes it quite impractical. The screen is very underwhelming, it has a lot of glare, and the writing experience is not nearly as good as for instance the remarkable 2. It is a plus that you can read books thru apps, and it has lots of options that the remarkable lacks, but the colors are so bland that they barely make any difference when using Notes. Also, the Notes app equivalent on the remarkable is a lot more intuitive IMHO, and closer to actuall paper. Just the fact that you can scroll endlessly and positiion the paper on the screen makes it a lot more usable (you don't have to write on the bottom of the screen). I think most options are both a bit expensive and not totally mature yet (the fully featured notebooks like note 3 and remarkable 2/pro that is).

i would buy these right now but they are too small. they only have one size available and it says they are adjustable but they are around 15mm narrower than my regular glasses. i had the same issue with they Ray Ban meta glasses.....even the largest size felt tight but then they had thick arms which diddnt help, they did look ok though but these look too small on my head.

Thanks for this honest review! I'd have a question. I know there is the possibility to do translations. Is it also possible the have like live subtitles? for someone who is deaf, this would be a real game changer. Thanks for your answer
@SpencerScottPughКүн бұрын
So you have to start all live translations from the app. So yeah, you could do like English to English translation or whatever but you have to start it on your phone.

Been searching for smart glasses for visually impaired children and students. It is very hard for them to always carry around iPads etc. They need books and reading material projected as head up displays. If this had a camera and AI like the Rayban Metafarer they would be great.
@SpencerScottPughКүн бұрын
Agreed!!
@ishyandmikkischannel8811Күн бұрын
@@SpencerScottPugh Even without the camera and AI this is very interesting. Even my eyes get tired from reading from phonesz tablets, monitors. If they can the ability to project books like Kindle and Pdf's that would be massive bonus points. The other question is about prescription. Many of the visually impaired have very poor long distance vision (in addition to other idiosyncratic visual imapairmentals). I known that projecting say Kindle or PDF on to 45 or 65 inch smart TVs or projector helps them a lot. But this means that the HUD equivalent in the G1 must not display too small. So it seems that at least prescription correction for myopia is essential.. Finally, there is a commercial opportunity for G1. As someone who has spent nearly 20k of own money trying to find visual aids and devices for children, the market is cornered by very expensive but not very functional we devices costing from 2k to 6k etc. But at the right price point, when funding in the US for individuals might come from State or Federal budgets, this is a commercial opportunity. You might sell to only 0.1% of the normally sighted community.. Only 8% of the US population have visual impairments.But the percentage uptake is likely to be higher than for the normally sighted community. At the right price point, I expect a significant percentage to consider something like the G1. And that's without the camera. Long as more of the phone fuctioality can be projected on to the glasses.. Even just screen mirroring. Is that possible?

Maybe I'm the odd one out, but when in public, I feel like I don't want any of my senses blocked - especially if I'm active. As someone who rides a bicycle a lot, i need to hear cars, my environment, my rear radars, etc. I use bone conducting headphones for this. I wish everyone used bone conducting or open ear on the trails - even for walking.... The total emersion is the exact issue with public spaces. People aren't aware of what is beside or behind them. I tend to be a very courtious rider. So I slow down, ring bells, clearly declare I'm going to pass someone... Very rarely am I heard. It is not a rare chance that I'm not heard either. 90%+ of people with regular headphones on dont hear me daily (I ride and commute a lot). It doesn't really frustrate me, but it makes me nervious passing people and especially their dogs... I've had some incidents of people unexpectedly turning directions or wandering... dogs on loose leashes, especially so. It just feels unsafe.

I use a cheap pair of open ears for when I go walking. Lets me stay fully aware of my surroundings and still jam out. I'm extremely picky however, and after trying a little over a dozen, I have not been 100% satisfied with any of them. The pair I ended up keeping were sub-20 dollars, and while they are missing cool bells and whistles, they sound better than all of the other options I tried, including sets costing 150 or more. The only exception was the Bose Ultra Opens, which sounded great but were way too finicky about placement/angle.

Yet another ridiculously priced product made to allow rich people to feel good about themselves. In reality, these machines have no effect on anything but your wallet. Ironically, the production of these devices probably has a much greater carbon footprint than throwing your food scraps in the trash.
