My grandpa's (from Italy) basic sauce was made like this, but no carrots. He also browned a small beef or pork roast and cooked it in sauce for 3 hours. Btw, carrots from the store around here are not sweet at all, actually a bit bitter. Love your recipe. Thanks.
@Asimplepalate2 күн бұрын
I love to hear that, Denise! Sounds like your grandpa made a wonderful sauce - similar to a Sunday Sauce in jersey. And yes, carrots right now are finally sweet - but they've been not great all year! Appreciate the support so much :)

@Asimplepalate2 күн бұрын
I didn't share it in the video (because I legit flung it together on the fly) but it's in the recipe description notes on this video and on the website recipe:)
Yes you can :) It freezes great! I typically do it in a freezer-friendly bag (air removed) laid flat. Up to 2-3 months!
@emmy61653 күн бұрын
@@Asimplepalate I just froze 4 bags . I also want you to know that I had a can of Italian peeled tomatoes in pantry and bought a can of San Marzano. You are spot on about San Marzani tomatoes. It is the only kind to use. My Mother’s Italian friend told me that years ago. The sauce took 5 hours because of the other tomatoes and was a little watery. The sauce still came out delicious. I spooned out watery part.👍

Hello from NYC . I love your recipes and have made the Marinara sauce recipe which came out fabulous. I love the history of family that comes up as you go along. I use my Grandma's Jewish recipes and love Italian cooking. I am making the Bolognese sauce as I write this comment and making it exactly the same as yours. I even started freezing the rinds from parmesan cheese. A great addition,. In fact, I am making ithe sauce with your video on my iPad The fragrance is divine.

Good and simple. My aunts all added a sweetener…big secret. A dash of cinnamon, nutmeg, …just enough for “mystery. You made marinara… for ‘Sunday sauce’ …beef or pork … meatballs and sausage. Best to me was a nice beef that is pre sautéed then added until tender. Brava!

Hi how do I store these and how long will they last
@Asimplepalate5 күн бұрын
Hi Maggie, the info is found on the website. But I like to keep this in an airtight mason jar because it keeps very fresh that way! But it lasts weeks in the fridge if in a sealed airtight jar or 7 days store another way. Or freeze it in a ziplock bag (air removed and laid flat)

Another easy way to remove skin, and seeds, is to use a food mill. I have one that attaches to my mixer, and it works great to remove both skin and seeds. Just cut the raw tomatoes in have, squeeze out some seeds and toss into a stock pot. No water, just heat. Simmer for maybe 30 minutes, stirring. Softens them enough to easily run through food mill. Pureed tomato, ready to reduce for sauce.

Hi Bethany! I’ve definitely learned tips from you and appreciate that. Love this recipe! One tip that my husband shared with me as he’s in the food industry is to take your dried herbs and crush them between your fingers as you add them to a recipe. This releases their optimum flavor. I thought I’d share that with you. Thank you!
@Asimplepalate6 күн бұрын

I cut my garlic clove only in half..then on very low heat, I put it in about 1/4 c olive oil..let the garlic infuse the oil..don't burn garlic. When it's infused, ( about 15) min remove garlic, now you have a real Italian base for the tomatoes.try it, and see how much difference it made

There are no such things as too much onion, too much garlic, or too much meat.
@Rif_Leman9 күн бұрын
Just some tips, use or ignore as you see fit. Oiling your hands before you mix the ingredients will prevent the meat from sticking to your fingers. When baking instead of skillet frying, putting the mixture into cup cake pans will insure consistent size servings and eliminate the need to roll them in your hands. Lamb is a good substitute for veal. Almond flour works as a substitute for bread crumbs when carbs are a concern. Ground Turkey is a substitute for pork.
