Eh... it's kinda cheaty... Building a sat network to scan the surface to get a biome map would be the non-cheaty way. BUT you are already using the cheaty kerbal engineer stuff that shows the biome so go for it! Who cares what we think anyway, you know we will watch either way

Since it looks like the booster isn’t getting recovered anyway, why not just go for a 3 stage system at this point? It would probably save a lot of weight and some cost. Given the ~7 km/s delta V requirement with aero breaking, and the terrible mass ratio of KSP fuel tanks, 3 stages is probably optimal mass wise.

What is Bill actually contributing to this mission? You don't have deployable science or repair kits or ISRU stuff. He enables KER, but the chip for that is a lot lighter than a Kerbal. That'd save you a bit over 0.9 tons I think and from the payload so the rocket equation is working in your favor.

Planes won't get you enough Kerbin biome science for a third node I don't think. You'll have to do this stressful Mun mission again for another biome or grind tourists until you can do surface samples and then grind Kerbin surface samples. Terrier will let you do a less stressful Mun mission with biome hopping which will get you enough science for wings.

There’s a trick with action groups and the science storage unit that bypasses the scientist reset requirement. You need to bind store experiment to the same action group as reset for the mystery goo and science JR. has worked for me in the past and made science collection trivial.

Nice. Cutting it a little close there. About what I figured on Dv. Get the winglets. You've taken our suggestions, take one you want.

Upgrade the Admin building so you can have 7 contracts instead of 2. Recommend you do this before you fly by or land on the Mun so you can save up on Kerbin orbit contracts. Once you land on the Mun you should get some good contracts to land on the Mun with tourists. But these types of contracts pay much less after the first couple. They will drop to one star and not pay much, so save up on these types of contracts before you let you astronauts do them. After landing on the Mun there usually are fewer tourist contracts to just orbit Kerbin and they pay much less. (same with saving Kerbals)

For tech, I would save up and get Solar Panels. That will let you send probes to get some science from the surface of minmus and use that science to get more parts for the manned space program. (also for going to Minmus you will want more than batteries to power lifesupport) I know there are oxygen candles and CO2 removal canisters you can pack, but its nice to be able to use the radio and run heaters when you want them. Otherwise flight controls is a nice compromise. Girders and rocket winglets will fly. Just like in those desert dog fights.

You will need to upgrade the Science Center to level 2 before you can collect surface samples. Science guys need a lab to check them out when the rocks get back home. Probably same thing for get a fetch a rock contract. It really should not be giving you a contract that can't be done, but the stock contract system never was that great. Some are awesome contracts, and some I just disable the whole contract class because they are hardly ever worth taking and wastes too much of my time just to read them again and again. Also if you are just using the stock contracts then do everyone a favor and up your money to ~150% or higher. Its 10% science, stock contracts, you are paying to unlock parts, and you can always fly 3 or 4 money missions, so just fly one or two missions and get a decent return. You have proven you can make money with funds at 100%. You have earned it!!!

Spacecraft has ranging data (radar altimeter for landing) and a window, so one trip around the Mun and you should know all the biomes you fly over.

You know you can turn the zombie respawn off, right? You’ll need to download a mod to do it on an existing game, but honestly the ability to tweak your playthrough is pretty vital for long term runs.
