I was in Russia for 6 months in 1998, as a student. Saint-Petersbug. Quite simple, there wasn't a single shop, not even for food. And supermakets were 100% empty. Not a single cafe or bar. Only snow and people. I would have gotten mad if I had stayed there. There was beer and cigarettes. A disgusting vodka. I think they even imported snow. The 1990ies were one of the most horrible moments in Russian history. Don't get fooled. It wasn't the capitalist miracle The Economist tried to recreate. While yes the DNA shows one of the genetic relationships between the people there are other parts that are generalizations about the many different cultures and languages on the american continents. Na-Dene languages and their sub languages are only 1 group of the 50+ unrelated language groups with many sub languages of their own. So really it just links the Ket with Na-Dene languages. Some of those cultural similarities may have been influenced from each other but do not apply to all tribes as the video is trying to make it out to be. For instance some of that material culture, 2 of my tribes do not really resemble as much. Another one of my tribes became a plains tribe less than 400 years ago and so some of the similar material culture (tipi type dwellings) were actually newly learned by them and so it was not an original cultural item for them at least up to that point & and in fact their distant relative languages today use adobe type dwellings instead of tipis. The original to my culture was not a tipi or adobe dwelling but more of a wickiup with overlaying poles. In any case I'm okay with the genetic arguement... just not the other stuff because there are too many different cultures in the americas and so some could have been introduced by some cultures way later than some my think.
