The State of Feminism in Russia Today | Feminism in Modern Russia: An Overview
Wondering why Russian women's feminity is so complex?
Remember when Vladimir Putin AFFRONTED German Chancellor Angela Merkel with…a bouquet of flowers?
This time Anna will explain why for Russian women receiving flowers isn’t a “sexist affront” and what she call a post-feminist country.
We think that generally it’s incorrect to say that gender-related discrimination in Russia is a THING.
And it’s not true to say that Russian women are housewives first, professionals - second.
At present Russia ranks Second in the world for the number of female business owners. More than 30% of all entrepreneurs in Russia are women… And at least half of them are more qualified, boasting better education than their Western European peers. Also compare 29% of female scientific researchers worldwide with 41% in Russia.
However, Russia is huge with vast parts of the country still striving for basic needs. Equality, ethics and moral are for the privileged few enjoying the top of Maslow’s pyramid.
Many lack education on gender roles within each family, following in the steps of their dysfunctional parents. Psychological health is still a fresh concept in Russia. Hopefully positive changes will spread fast.
The Russian woman has been enjoying the same social and political rights as the Russian man for nearly 100 years now.
Along the way she had to loose and then re-claim her femininity. At the end of the day: it’s up to the woman to choose whether she wants a career, a family, both or none. Neither path will be socially condemned.
That leaves Russian women with one gender-related unresolved problem: the quantity and quality of men in Russia.

Very well explained! I've never heard of the concept put this way before, but you broke down the history behind it well. I like to learn how other cultures/nations move through idea-phases in a different order than Western ones. There's no *one* route to progress! ...And I think the West won't be far behind on going towards post-feminism, by the way things are trending. *Please ignore the trolls, they're overly defensive, and they just don't want to learn anything new. 🙄

But the statistics she provides are genuinely out of context and that context paints an entirely different picture of Russian women in comparison to other countries/regions. According to the same Mastercard Index she references, the main measurement is of "women entrepreneurs" which considers several important factors. The USA, Canada, New Zealand, Switzerland, and Germany are typically at the top. The stat where Russia (and countries like Botswana, Ghana, and Uganda) are in the top is about "women business owners as a share of population" the definition of which includes self-employed women. Comparing these stats actually demonstrate women in Russia are in way more precarious working situations compared to men in Russia, and compared to women in other countries. Also the stat where she says Russia women have better education than their Western counterparts in not reflected in any stats I can find from reputable sources and "best" in highly suggestive. If were talking about countries where women have the highest levels of education it again would be Western countries. And for the stat about % of women in scientific research she compared to the global average which SHOULD be lower than Russia as it includes all countries some of which barely have women in research. But compared to Europe/North America/Asia Russia's % is significantly lower.

Also, how much do equal voting rights factor into a country where the voting doesn't determine the leader...

You neglect the reasons why the majority of Russian women that die do so as a result of domestic violence.

Nonsense. Most Russian women don't die from domestic violence. Most Russian women die from diseases.
