Is it easier on the compressor to stay running when going into and out of defrost or using the "quiet shift" option? Is there a way to bypass the "quiet shift" option on a Rheem control board?
@sknight039112 күн бұрын
@@maxbiker99 quiet shift, when done properly, is definitely much better for the entire system and for reducing noise. But there's no way to bypass it on the Rheem board....like you can on a Carrier board (with the little red square). Thanks for watching 😎👌

During the defrost cycle the heating vents seem to blow freezing cold air into the rooms. We have fossil fuel backup heating (oil furnace). Isn't the furnace suppose to come on during the defrost process?
@sknight039114 күн бұрын
@@bampsnh yes it is. And if it's not coming on during the defrost cycle, that's why you're getting freezing cold air coming through the vents. Thanks for watching. 😎👍
@bampsnh14 күн бұрын
@@sknight0391 Thanks for the quick response. This is a new installation (summer 2024) and our heating season here in the northeast is ramping up. The condenser is a Bosch IDS 2.0 4/5 ton. What would force the furnace to start while defrosting? With this one exception the system is working okay.
@sknight039114 күн бұрын
@bampsnh there has to be a 24-volt signal sent through the "white wire" of the condenser back to the furnace. This will turn the furnace on during defrost operation. They're also needs to be a supply air temperature sensor mounted above the AC coil in the ductwork. This sensor is tied into the "W" wire and will turn the furnace off above a specific temperature. This will keep the heat from the furnace from changing the state of the refrigerant before it goes back out to the compressor (and destroying it over time). Or an easier option would be to set the switch over point in the thermostat menu to 40°. This would run the heat pump above 40°and the furnace below 40°. At that temperature the heat pump isn't going to have to defrost very often, if at all. And if it does ever defrost it will be over so quickly that you really won't notice much of a temperature change inside of the house.

If you want to test a defrost without shorting pins, you can just hold the ambient temp sensor in your hand. It will warm quickly and raise the temperature differential between the coil sensor, causing the system to go into defrost.

Hi Shannon. I've got one of these units at my home. The lines run inside the exterior wall up to the attic to the air handler. This is also right next to my son's headboard. In the winter during defrost mode, the level of sound that transfers through the walls is crazy. Is there a way to dampen or isolate the noise coming through? Thanks
@sknight039119 күн бұрын
@@craigsims1988 unfortunately probably not. There are vibration dampeners, that are basically like thick heavy rubber pieces, that can be clamped onto the refrigerant lines at the outdoor unit. And that might help a little bit with vibration transfer through the line set. But probably not much. If you can access the area in the Attic where the refrigerant lines are at, you can take a look and make sure that there's not anything obvious that's causing more vibration the normal. Like something rubbing up against a wall or a joist that could be moved, strapped down, or padded to help reduce the vibration at that spot. Thanks for watching. 😎👍 Merry Christmas.

@sknight0391Ай бұрын
@@CheeKengChua that's just indicating that the concentration of gas is getting higher. Thus meaning a larger leak. The more noise it makes and the higher the lights go, the more gas is present. You set the detector in "fresh air" so it's not making any of those noises. That way, when it goes off you know you have a leak.

@@gregmiracle9560 they are definitely a step up in quality. You can see it on things like the thickness of the gauge of metal on the air handler door. all the wiring and copper is nicely bundled up and zip-tied out of the condenser unit. Nothing will ever rub out on these things and cause a problem. And all of their coils are coated with that bluish green stuff.
