At 10:05, FYI, (From FLUKE CORP.): Any DVOM display showing O.L. = OUT OF LIMITS (Meaning, the item, currently under measurement, is OUT of LIMITS for the RANGE SETTING selected on the meter's display.
@sknight03913 жыл бұрын
In the "ohms" setting that means open line. OL only applies when you're taking readings like voltages and the reading you're taking is higher than the what the meter is currently capable of. And that is when "ranging" comes into play. But you don't really have to worry about that when using an "auto-ranging" meter. But thanks for watching. Hopefully the video was helpful 👍

@@sknight0391 O.K. Shannon. If you want to believe it's OPEN LINE, no prob.
@sknight03913 жыл бұрын
@@byenzer5101 oh I'm not believing anything pal. I'm right, do your homework and then come back and apologize later. You obviously don't know your way around a multimeter very well. Here is the definition for open line/open loop ⬇️ open loop If the screen displays 1 or OL (open loop), there's no continuity-that is, there's no path for electric current to flow from one probe to the other. Continuity is non-directional, meaning it doesn't matter which probe goes where.

The ol that you're talking about is something totally different. For instance if you're using a meter that has two different voltage ranges: 200vac & 600vac and you have the meter set to the 200 volt setting and you take a reading on a circuit that is 400 volts the meter will show OL FOR OVERLOAD. That means that you need to switch the setting to the "higher" 600 volt range. But again, you don't have to worry about this when you have an auto ranging meter. The O.L. on the ohms/continuity setting is different my friend. Trust me!

Hello Shannon McKnight. This shelter in place is nothing different from the way I live my life. I am awaiting the next hvac call. Not worried about bills. Shannon Knight HVAC quick question for you buddy. I’m about to buy a new leak detector and I know you really like the AccuTrac ultrasonic. I’m thinking either the AccuTrac or the D-Tek select. Any thoughts? I’ve never used ultrasonic, is it hard to get the hang of? Have you ever used the D-Tek select? What would you recommend? Any advice would be greatly appreciated before I drop close to $500!
@sknight03914 жыл бұрын
Ultrasonic is great but it has its place. Would I have it as my stand-alone only leak detector....No. It's to use in conjunction with a good sniffer. If the leak is big and the system has very little refrigerant or is flat, then the ultrasonic is great because you can put some nitrogen into the system and hear it plain as day. Most guys say the Dtek Select is a solid detector. I also like the Amprobe RLD1 & the Robinair LD7. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching 😎👍

Shannon, I'm confused. My techs are confused. My in-house technician training manuals are ALL WRONG. WHY? Because, my techs watched this video, and then asked me to watch it too. We've mistakenly thought: A single wire, meter test lead can develop an 'INTERMITTENT OPEN'. But now, we're all going to have to start calling an OPEN, a SHORT. We obviously have been soooo confused. Thank you for straightening us out on this.
@sknight03913 жыл бұрын
Oh so now you're changing the subject away from the "OL". Because you figured out that you are indeed wrong. (I still expect an apology ) . And there's no need to mince words over what you call a bad test lead. Nobody.. and I repeat NOBODY has ever referred to a bad place in a test lead out in the field as an "open wire". We all say "Damn, I've got a short in one of my test leads. I'm going to have to buy some new ones." People talk differently in different parts of the country. I'm a good old boy from the south and I talked the way I talk PERIOD. You call it whatever you want. it's a bad test lead and it needs to be taken out of service. and the majority of technicians don't even know how to test for such things. This video is intended for new guys getting into the trade to help them know and understand their equipment and to make sure it's working properly. There's no sense in you coming on my videos trying to act like a big shot and you know everything there is to know about electrical meters and test leads. When you don't even know what OL means when you're testing in the ohms/continuity setting! Maybe your guys need a new teacher. 🤔

@@sknight0391 O.K. Shannon. Whatever you say sir. You're right. Silly me. What do I know. Nuclear Weapons Systems test equipment training by Fluke and Boeing Nuclear Defense Systems. What do I know. Obviously NOTHING. I'm confused. O.L. is OUT OF LINE, not Out of Limits, like they, Fluke, taught me. I was wrong. Oh well. I'll just tell my techs to say, it's a SHORT too. It'll help them to truly understand what's actually happening in the test lead wire. It's a SHORT! Again, thank you.

@@BYENZER Check out HVAC SERVICE MENTOR -How to test your meter leads for HVAC techs. So maybe you can go on his channel and give him a hard time also. Are you telling me he has 3 meters that are all OL "overload" sitting on a table with the test leads not touching anything. @@sknight0391 Your last paragraph is duplicate Shannon. BTW, I'm not a douchebag, but, when someone tells my techs something technical, that isn't correct, I can, and should be, a DICK about it.
