Love Norman Davies, but he is wrong about Pilsudski, he was pro-German and was working for closer relations with Nazi Germany.

Nice historian, but really to claim Ukrainian identity only started 30 years ago, is very much wrong, unless you consider promoting transgenderism, LGBT stuff as "ukrainian identity". Except it's not, it's liberalism to make Ukraine into an atheistic hellscape like the west.

There was the cork boy. In. That was Turing side kick
@MakerBoyOldBoyАй бұрын
The Polish did all of the important work on and including smuggling an Enigma machine to Britain. Turing and company simply refined the already solved issues and built machines yo aid their work. Turing was good, indeed. But, the Polish are the real heroes who were sidelined by the Brits to solely claim all the glory. History is much messier than simple mythic fantasies.

My mother's side of the family was deported to Siberia from what is now western Ukraine. My uncle became a truckdriver in Anders' 2nd Corps and they escaped the USSR thanks to that. My mother spent her high school years in the city of Leon Mexico. Another uncle, too young for military service, spent the war in Palestine. My father, who was a resident of Silesia, was drafted into the German Armed Forces towards the end of the war. I thank Prof. Davies for memorializing these events. They all ended up in Chicago.

Victory in Tobruk, where the Poles replaced Australians, was greatly aided by the invention of the mine detector by a major in the Polish army. In spite of all the fighting, through the war when it came to the 1945 victory parade in London, they were not invited. Attlee did not want to hurt Stalin`s feelings.

All of this is new to me. And compels me to visit Poland one day soon. Nice to learn about the joys of material culture that Poland shares with the UK, and other Balkan countries etc... Maria's work seems the most pronounced somehow. I wonder if there is any cross pollination with the Secessionists of Vienna? BTW does anyone know if there are examples of 'Young Poland' in the Vilna/Vilnius region? It seems like the vernacular origins shown here, look very similar to those in Zakopane.
@polishculturalinstituteinl74842 ай бұрын
Dear @michaeldavisburchat8721 Yes, there seems to have been some influence from the Secessionists of Vienna on the Young Poland Movement. In terms of Young Poland in the Vilnius region, the movement was strongly associated with the city of Krakow, so we are not sure if there are any examples in Vilnius. But this book may be of interest to you and it might be useful to contact the curator of the Young Poland exhibition, Dr Julia Griffin, who would be the best person to answer your question. www.19thc-artworldwide.org/autumn21/cooper-reviews-young-poland-by-griffin-and-szczerski We hope you are able to visit Poland one day and see some of the art of the Young Poland Movement.

@@polishculturalinstituteinl7484 Thanks for getting back to me. That is so sweet. I will certainly follow up on your recommendation. I look forward to knowing this genre of art, and discovering if it ever had much influence on the culture and imagination of Poland.

I have an edition of The Booke [sic] of Idolatry edited by Jerzy Ficowski and published by Interpress Publishers in Warsaw in 1988, which I must have purchased in New York City and probably not long after publication...And I bought the book specifically because of the Quays' Street of Crocodiles, and in turn became fascinated with Schulz. They've carried & spread his memory & work for ages, now...

There was among other wonderful Poles in Anders Army Lucjan Krolikowski When I met him he was already very old, very quite and a Franciscan friar whom happy to see two Poles in Connecticut after our concert told me and my sister an extraordinary, moving to tears story of his life., 150 Polish children-orphants who lost their parents in Siberian Gulag, and a Polish Communists after WWII who tried to intercept them. He wrote about it in,, A Franciscan Odyssey.'' There was a camp in Jaworzno where Polish Communists on Stalin's order were imprisoning Polish children -teenage AK members tougether with NAZIS in 1945 so Poles in Jaworzno , civilians thought that they were Nazis!!! One day those AK to sing Rota to total surprise of throwing stones Poles behind camp Jaworzno fence.

Dear Sir, Thank you so much for sharing true Polish history ! You are a National Polish Treasure. Because of Stalin politics Polish true history was for years forbidden and what Stalin let Polish kids learn at school was distorted. I am so shaken by lies of after all born in Polish town ( today Bialorus) Israeli Prime Minister Menahim Begin. Maybe he was silent admirer of Stalin for his own political reasons. But huge problem with such lies coming from known figures like Menahim Begin is that people today will think it was true . Thank you once more!!!!

General Władysław Sikorski (1881-1943) died as he was being flown out of Gibraltar ,during WW2.the Liberator aircraft crashed into the sea very shortly after take off. The Royal Air force for may years kept one of the Liberator engine propellers retrieved from the wreck site in display ,along with a plaque. The Gibraltar Government then relocated and greatly improve the memorial by commissioning a brand new memorial made in Poland with the original aircraft propeller,both sited in a new location at Gibraltars Europa point adjacent to the Trinity house lighthouse,in honour of this great human being. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sikorski_Memorial
