I think fundamental skills are actually where expert level skills are developed. I am new at disc golf, but have played drums for many years. When I was starting I thought I could skip ahead by practicing the really badass songs I wished I could play, but the reality is that treating everything like you are a beginner every time is where the gains are made. Your throws look effortless because you see the fundamentals behind what makes it all work.

3:18 Says, “when I supinate my wrist” and proceeds to pronate his wrist
@SonnyJ3t21 сағат бұрын
When he’s bringing the disc from the vertical position to horizontal position, or “turning the key”, that’s supination. If your hands turn to make a soup bowl, it’s supination.

@@SonnyJ3t He’s saying he’s coming from pronated position into supinated one and that this works for him. It was just odd how says, “if I supinate” , and then he pronates and says this is his natural style that works for him. Lots of players do this. It might actually add snap. I want experiment now that I think of it. His release is flat or supinated so that’s what’s important.

I needed to comment this. SNAP is the most misunderstood word in disc golf. It has nothing to do with sound. Snap is the last "powerful" movement of the wrist (even fingers) when the disc leaves from your hand. Like the end of the whip. If I remember correct, word SNAP is from Blake Takkunen who was teaching disc golf somewhere in early 2000s. It is not a good word, because it is always mixed with the sound. Still really good video and really good tips! Standstill is the way to go.

I couldn’t agree more. This is the video that helped my timing and form more than any other video I’ve seen, and watched quite a few trying. Something about the I started out playing a few years ago and I could only throw forehand, my back hand was awful. My shoulder and elbow were getting so sore, a had to learn a new way to continue playing. I rarely throw forehand unless I have to now and my body appreciates it.
@bobbyanderson71332 ай бұрын
I just watched this video and have my own experience with the technique you show. I've only been playing a couple of months and i'm a big guy (6'3/240) with a big chest and broad shoulders, so a lot of the techniques i've seen do not work well for me because I need more space in the front to clear my chest. Rounding is a big issue for me because of this. I throw stand still exclusively because it reduces the variables that could go wrong for me. Through trial and error (and a lot of frustration), I found that reaching out like you demonstrate is about the only way I can throw with any accuracy. I see the pros almost reaching back to 5 o clock and at the very last second of their pull, they bring everything together in the power pocket. I can't do that lol. I reach back to around 7:00-7:30 and pull diagonally into my chest before continuing to pull straight through on the line between my front foot and target. It's accurate enough. I just need to build more distance. My best throws (with mids) are only 230', and that's pretty disappointing considering how big I am, but I guess size and strength only matter as much as you can direct them into the throw mechanics. Great video and if I hadn't worked through some of these issues already, this would've fixed most of my rounding issues! I wish I would've found it 2 months ago!
@DiscManiac282 ай бұрын
Thanks for feed back, yea with your size you should be able to throw further for sure, you’re right it’s all in the mechanics but you have the frame to throw far
