It's so weird, we have lots of similarities. I also moved to a foreign country during covid period, I did a stop in finland, I visited Nuuksio Park. I also used to work out with Chloe Ting videos, I also painted the exact same scene of Chihiro with the lake.

Stay in Finland, get yourself a new citizenship there or something before you start giving good money to your CPF account. Please stay there for good as it’s a great country with good human rights records, good labour union and labour laws to protect you, pay you well and amazing scenery, natures and infrastructure.

Thank you for making this video. Any advice for or any experience with older classmates, from the mid-career track in SMU or NUS Law? I am talking about People in their 30s or even 40s?

Oh it isn't relateable just for law students. I study business and management, and I have a prof who's the CEO of an IT company, and he made it very clear from the beginning that he expects the same attitude and behaviour from us as he does with his employees. And yes I know studying law is way harder, that's why I didn't go to law school, but the sudden change in the effort required from us compared to the other teachers was shocking. By some standards, for example by the high school's standards I went to, these expectations should be baseline, the bare minimum, but some guys really are there just because their parents said so. Paying 100% attention, not fiddling with your phone, not wearing hats and beanies in class, not showing up completely clueless about the day's material, being on time both with arriving to class and with the assignments. He started every class, especially at the beginning of the semester, by asking who's taken a look at the day's material, and the ones who haven't got grilled to the bone for 5-10 minutes. He also made sure to emphasize that we should not take this personally, he just simply wants to encourage everybody to take 10 minutes the evening before class and look at the material, which is very fair and understandable. The subject he was teaching in this semester was macroeconomics, which is not everybody's cup of tea. Looking at trillion dollar figures, inflation, exchange and interest rate charts and trying to connect them to global or domestic events in a given country for 90 minutes is a special experience xD About nice professors, in the previous semester the first part of the same module I wrote about here was taught by a Santa looking, friendly, older prof with a mustache. He made sure to integrate brands into the material which we cared about. Activision Blizzard, Koenigsegg, Bang & Olufsen, FIFA, Rolls Royce, Nike, Rolex, Patek Philippe etc. My favourite day of the week was wednesday where I had nothing but a double class with him.

Hi Char! I just wanted to ask a quick question. I realised that there are many JC students in Law but what about Poly students? Are there fewer of them and would they stand face any disadvantages?
@charlycatcatcatvideos
@charlycatcatcatvideos 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! I would say the majority of students are from JC but don't let that scare you! We had quite a number of poly friends and they ended up thriving super well in the uni environment especially because they were already so good at learning independently and doing group work. Hope this helps and all the best 😊

I went to NUS as a non-law undergrad and then did my JD at SMU. I would say NUS has just as many “University core” modules as SMU. On the other hand, I daresay NUS offered a lot more academic freedom (ie people like Goh Yihan can skip lectures and yet come up on top), which was something I sorely missed when I was in law school.
@charlycatcatcatvideos
@charlycatcatcatvideos 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Edward! Actually i rmb being so worried about making this video because I didn't know too much about the NUS curriculum, but my baseline impression was that SMU law students were forced to do extra uni core mods, accounting, etc etc. I think it might have changed since I left though... What kind of "non-law" mods did you have to do as an NUS JD (or for LLB students for that matter)? i would love to know! But for sure I think NUS has more flexibility both in terms of what modules they offer (wider variety and more options) and also in terms of how you choose to manage your time. Definitely a plus point for more self-directed/disciplined students.

hi ! im a fellow singaporean headed to finland for exchange soon. very worried about the cold..do u have recommendations on where to get clothes and suitable boots for finland :-) thank you for your videos!
@charlycatcatcatvideos
@charlycatcatcatvideos 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Adonia! I actually managed to borrow alot of clothes. This huge jacket in the video is from Haglöfs for example! BUT if you are coming to Helsinki (and maybe check other parts of Finland as well), visit a UFF outlet or search for second hand stores in general. They are a great second hand store that stocks by season so if you are only here for a while, just get a warm enough coat without having to pay too much and you'll be able to donate it back too at the end. As for boots, if you do not want to splurge on some heavy duty boots, you can try investing in some removable boot spikes which you can buy in most supermarkets (but try to get them off season if possible because they might be sold out, if not other stores will have them). Something like this www.xxl.fi/kengat/kenkatarvikkeet/nastat/c/140814?sort=relevance I was super scared of the cold too but just remember to layer up, keep your neck warm, get some nice wool gloves (nothing synthethic! I got mine from MUJI hehe) and for home maybe some woolen socks! of course it depends on how far north you are. Helsinki won't be too bad but if you go up to Lapland like me in the dead of winter, you might need something more intense like woolen underclothes (long johns, skiing underwear which I wore). If you are there for holiday, I think alot of destinations should carry some outer clothing for guests. I hope this helps!

Hi Charlene, are the SMU law students given structured notes to study or are they required to make their own notes (with reference to various books) after lecturers delivered their lectures? Thanks in advance

Does SMU law school require an interview for admissions? I checked their website and it doesn't say anything about an interview
@charlycatcatcatvideos
@charlycatcatcatvideos 2 жыл бұрын
I can't say for sure but the interview has been a standard requirement for years already. I can't find the exact admission process steps on the website either (maybe they are updating) but the most recent posts on the JD intake still required interviews in the same group format so I'd assume they are still on!
