Vin any chance of getting a bolt on boi project going? Would like to see your process in picking a model with good inventory and lots of aftermarket support. Actually selecting a car that’s a good candidate for bolt on mods, with just routine servicing on the drivetrain. Also how you go about selecting which bolt on mods to buy.

Grand Am splitter on Joe's car is so based. Full floor and tunneled making it so much superior aero wise to the cup lip. Much needed front downforce and very underrated. Not sure I've seen a street car run that.

Let’s see these cars line up from a roll. Running a car on 91octane and 100F+ and a stock car much cooler isn’t exactly science. Do some 15-130pulls at an airstrip…. And do the NA stuff in the winter.. geez….

So something was wrong with the high rpm‘s in the stock car. Compared with yours, the power curves are almost identical till the stock has the break. So IMO when it‘s fixed the difference will only be minor, maybe 5-10 hp. Anyway I also have bolt on parts on my 996 GT3 🙈

Love your explanations. I've always said boosted motors come in their own planning.. pick your hp goal & use, turbo to make that boost/hp, motor, fuel, & clutch/trans parts that will hold that boost/hp without breaking. Then dial it back to stay in budget/ time etc.. if the trans blows at 400 tq & don't want to buy a built trans, then that 500 goal & turbo might need to be dialed down to a 400hp setup.. Option 2 is max out the stock turbo & be happy with that, replace what breaks. Each part has its limit of hp/tq/boost etc. Like head bolts pulling out at xx-psi, or rods breaking at 400hp etc.. whatever your goal, make boost to make hp & build motors to stay together 🤘🔧

For reference a 992 gt3rs would dyno about 450-60 rwhp stock. Maybe a hair less if weather makes it pull timing.

Conditions shouldn’t matter THAT much on a dyno jet, that’s what correction factors are for. Theoretically you should be able to get that same 360 sae corrected in any scenario. Because that is the corrected number.

The challenge is building a vehicle reliably. I have a terrible habit of modding before fixing other underlying problems, and the new mods almost always accelerate said problems. Mod, break, fix, mod, break, fix. I'll take built over bought any day, though.

Love the series. I realize he made a side note on this already, but bolt-on car only gained 12-13whp. I realize he mentioned the fuel not being optimized, but still a lot of money for just a little bit of power. Usually how it goes with NA applications. Unless you go full ham like the built car.

I think a slightly modded 996 is very good value. Fixed IMS, headers, intake, bilsteins, good budget base. The 997 is a bit more expensive.

I am only at 0:38 but my whole thinking is that for a street build, bolt ons are great. Suspension, wheels and tires, exhaust, air cleaner, aesthetics, perfect. For the "because racecar" side, it really depends on what you plan on doing with your car whether you plan on taking it to the track on the weekends and using it as a daily, or if it's destined to be a full blown racecar. For street and track use, I was always told to mod your car with the progression of your driving. So start out with tires and tires. Stock for the street, track wheels and tires for the street, then as you improve, go with suspension and just get your driving down first, then a bolt in roll cage or something like that before go fast parts. If you're going full racecar, refer back to "because racecar" and cut out the daily driving part and add in ripping out the interior for weight savings. Also carbon fiber body panels, because fiberglass is so mid '90s/early 2000s.

I like the idea of taking a pretty good car from the factory (where it necessarily has made compromises so that it can work in multiple environments) and making a few easy changes that really wake up the car and make it more exciting at the risk of messing up a few us cases. As an example, I have a mk7.5 GTi which comes with a snow filter. I live in the south East USA where we might get snow once every few years.
