I did this for the first time about a week ago, accidentally made it too hard for what I wanted, but it still worked, second time I made it too hard, couldn't even use it. Third attempt, was perfect, and I had decided to time it as well so I learned that about 16 minutes(in between 6-7, on a stove that ranges from 1-9) is perfect for my desired consistency(which is a thinner strip wax, if anyone is curious). My fourth attempt, I decided to try and microwave a batch, and after about 16 minutes it had just started getting to almost be a strip wax, and it melted through the container, warning for anyone thinking of using plastic: even if it's microwave safe it might melt, best to use glass. My last attempt, I decided to stick to 16 minutes on the stove, since it was quicker and also I melted the only container that was microwave safe, and a proper size. xD Long story short: Thank you for the videos! They are very helpful! ^.^

Starting at the first "How To- Sugar waxing" playlist to check for some guidance! Abit disappointed as I thought this would be the holy grail to my journey of sugar wax! I have watched this playlist 10 times (last I was counting) thinking I was ready to tackle this and have had a horrible time trying to successfully wax. Made 5 batches, first two were duds. (Having culinary exp, I thought it was be easier but followed instructions to a "T" after those attempts) I got ONE long good strip the first time, BEAUTIFUL! I was determined to get both legs, soft and smooth as that one good stride. Sadly, ever attempt after has been awful. My wax is the correct consistency but after one pull, it's pure mush. Maybe too wet? Patted dry and added tiny bits of cornstarch. No. Maybe too humid? TWO fans in direct contact to my legs? No. After one pull with firm, just-abit-sticky wax it doesn't work. I can roll it in a ball, add more cool, hard wax or do spreads with marble sized pieces- nothing. Abit upset as it seems I've tried everything to work with the already fine wax without good results. Happy it worked for others and would love feedback! After making a full bag's worth of sugar into wax and having it come out fine but not work on my skin, I'm sad to say I need to do more research for something that will work x3

Omg, so I’ve been using your exact recipe for a couple of years now with no problem, then all of a sudden, the sugar wasn’t getting to the right color at the temperature I wanted. I thought it was my location, which didn’t make sense because I only moved once within the same building. I tried three more times, then I was like... “Maybe it was the lemon juice...” So I switched lemon juices, and Lo and behold, my sugar finally came to the right color at the right temperature. TLDR, make sure you have good lemon juice!!!!!!

I’m wondering if anyone here who has had success with this method might know how to help me out! I measured my ingredients (white sugar, bottled lemon juice, tap water) correctly, and used my kitchen thermometer. My goal was to get to the soft wax, or somewhere between the soft and medium, so I was aiming for 240 degrees F. My sugar reached that temp and I poured it into a container. It looked too light to me, but color doesn’t matter necessarily, so I let it cool to the next day, and it was still like a light syrup. I decided to check my thermometer and recalibrated it (it was about 2 degrees Celsius off!), and put my existing sugar back into the pot to reheat. It did get a little deeper in color this time, and I actually had the temp get all the way to 250. Now that it’s cooled the next day, it’s still like a syrup! I think it’s thick enough for strip wax, so I’ll try that. But anyone know what is going on? I haven’t gotten to candy stage at all. Is it supposed to hold at a certain temp for a longer amount of time? I am not at a high altitude and it’s not humid where I live. Help!
@abetweene4 жыл бұрын
have you tried using the cold water test? doing so until you reach your desired result will ensure its cooked enough before pouring and storing to cool and use later.

After years of trying and giving up! I successfully made my sugar wax and actually used it on my legs!!! And after sugar waxing my legs yesterday let me just say that I had been over thinking this!!! I had made it correctly several times in the past, but I would knead it into something unworkable. Now I know, once it gets to the golden honey color its ready! And once it’s cool enough to handle, just start applying it to the skin. I have balls of wax ready to go for next time. I know I could either warm them up for 10 seconds in the microwave to get them workable or warm it with my hands. But ladies, you’ve probably made the same mistake I made and just assumed that you did it wrong!

Tbh I’ve been doing this sugar wax for about 6 months and I’ve liked it so much. It helps save money indeed. But I struggle every time I do the paste I guess I would like a guide on how long in time frame you leave the paste at the certain temperature. That is where I cannot understand if it will be about a soft wax before it gets to the next stage. Also using it with your fingers... how does that work vs a popsicle stick (I personally use this due to Im unsure why my wax doesn’t want to spread? So I must heat up and wait to cool all over again?) (this struggle is the most realest for me.) if you can help that would be great 👍🏼 it shall be fun:)
@ravenlopez79794 жыл бұрын
First time I did it, completely failed. Second time, way better, but it was more like a strip wax rather than a firm ball (that's what I'm looking for). Third time I SUCCEEDED! But I made so little that just did one arm and half a leg. So I was feeling like a pro already and went for a fourth time... I made 1 cup sugar and 1/4 of water and lemon, failed... it was like honey and didn't worked for a strip wax so my dad ate it. Fifth time is firmer than the last one, but it's still like honey. So I went for a sixth time but made it just like the third one, 1/2 sugar and two tablespoons of water and lemon. I'm waiting for it to cool down, but seems like I burnt it ;-; I don't stir it after it starts to boil. I have a thermometer so I let it reach to 250fh and then take it off the stove and let it cool down in the pan I cooked it for 15 minutes, then I take it to a cup and let it cool down even more... idk what I'm doing wrong ;-;

Here it is : 1 cup of sugar 4 tp of lemon juice 4 tp of water Pinch of salt You mix it all and put it on a low heat for 10-12 min as it becomes golden, you turn it off and leave it rest for 10min, then you add 2/3 tbsp of water and heat on a very low low heat as you mix it and that's it. if you’re experiencing a lot of breakage it could be the direction in which youre pulling or the integrity of the hair. pulling in the same direction of growth diminishes the chance of breakage but understandably can be hard to determine sometimes since patterns change throughout a single body part, as well as with curly/coarse hair. i have tips in this video on how to tell kzbin.info/www/bejne/bqKmh4yqhsSiqKc and here for perfexting your technique kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2m8qXejhdmKn5Y in terms of breakage also it is possible that the hair is very dehydrated making it brittle, so when youre not sugaring be sure to moisturize once or more daily applied to damp/wet skin.

Currently trying to make isolation sugar wax, first attempt has been a mild success! Though I think I over-cooked it!😂 it's way too sticky, I miiiightve made an overly hard wax and used way to many spoons 😂 thankfully I've more brown sugar to go again 😊❤ Oh which leads me to ask if you might make a troubleshooting video/ common mistakes?😁

So pleased! I watched a bunch of your videos on sugar wax and just made my first batch. Turned out slightly hard, but luckily I have warm hands. :P This will definitely be my go-to way of de-hairing my legs from now on. Thank you for your excellent videos!

Thank you for the helpful info, you make very nice videos. The candy making reference took me back to when I was a child and I would wait for my mother to test for "soft ball stage", as I got to eat the ball(s). No hair in them (usually...we did have 3 dogs), thanks again.

This may be a silly question, but can you store your made sugar in a coffee mug and heat it in a coffee mug as well?
@abetweene5 жыл бұрын
I would recommend storing it in a container with a lid.

I went to the wax spa faithfully for a couple of years before I moved to an area that didn't have one. I started uses your wax last year. My husband would do my armpits. During this quarantine, he successfully did a Brazilian. I was so excited! What wax warmer do you use?

How long does it take for the hair to grow back when you’ve never used sugar before? Like if I used sugar for the first time today, when will I need to do it again? I know hair growth is different for everyone and that you won’t be able to give a precise answer, but just an estimate would help 🙂

Hope you can help me. I tried to make the strip wax on the heat you describe (111 degrees, celsius). But it's not working very well, because I just get a few hairs of and has to do it a lot of time on the same place to get all the hairs of. What am I doing wrong? Maybe it's something with the temperature? I used 111 degrees (celsius), but I'm not sure now that will be the right temperature, because it now not feels sticky enough. I also tried 113 degrees, but still get a few hairs of. What to do?
@abetweene3 жыл бұрын
as mentiomed, the temperature ranges given are for general reference but not a concrete recipe for acheiving the desired consistency. the temp will vary based on your location and therefore u may need to increase or even reduce the heat by a few degrees or more. Try the cold water or frozen plate test to determine when the sugar is done cooking.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I love your vids and style. Technical question: My wax is syrupy... Hard and sticky. I did my legs with it before it called completely but tried to use it the next day once completely cooled, it wasn't brittle but it was really stiff, I would say firm to hard ball stage (really difficult to spoon out). I'm not using a thermometer, just testing all the way through in the cold water). Do you have any ideas on preventing the syrupyness? It's not very humid where I am. Thanks in advance, you're fabulous xx
