I found that my sugar was quite hard after it had cooled down, so I heated it for 5 seconds in the microwave and was able to ball it. when kneading, I found that incorporating water into hard sugar softens is as you knead, allowing it to become a paste as it heats slightly too in your hand. making sugar without a thermometer is tricky unfortunately but I hope it will allow me to figure out how to save overcooked or under cooked sugar 😅

Another method is, warming the wax back up and damp your finger tips and knit. Re-wet and knit until it’s just a firm paste. This method could take a couple of minutes to more depending how overcooked the wax is. Ive been sugaring for around 3-4 years now, and still overcook every time, but once, and that one was undercooked. I’m going to try your method by putting a little bit in cold water to test the firmness while cooking. Thanks

So I just made my first batch of sugar wax and I had a thermometer. It seems the mixture wasn’t deep enough for the thermometer so I didn’t get an accurate reading and ended up at around the hard ball/ soft crack stages.... ~Edit~ I tried again a few hours later using he cold water method and it worked! I had made I think a hard sugar paste. So I just heat it in the microwave for 10 seconds and it’s perfect!

Ahhh thank you! You just saved my wax! I made it so good the first couple times then I guess I forgot/got lazy to do it in 30 second intervals and 2 batches of wax went to waste. Hello! :) All of my life I have been wrestling with different methods for hair removing including sugar-waxing, but it became extraordinary only after I watched your videos and followed your recipes. It took time, patience and efforts, sometimes I failed, but once you understand how it's working and you see results on your skin, you can never go back. Burned my paste yesterday, added water, worked wonderfully. Thank you! You made my life easier. Sending hugs!

I have extremely coarse, stubborn hair and the hard ball stage (260 F) works perfectly with the wrist "flick" method. I highly advise buying a candy thermometer with a "clip on" to put on the inside of the pot while stirring the sugar. These are available at chain grocery stores. The thermometer is easy to read and there's little to no chance of "overshooting" the cooking temperature unless you are distracted. Just be sure the bottom of the thermometer does not directly touch the bottom of the pan while cooking the sugar otherwise the temperature will be falsely elevated. A consistent room temperature of 72F or below for making the wax and performing the waxing procedure itself is critical.

The climate you're in matters a lot too. I'm in Europe now and although I used my thermometer and cooked my paste to a medium consistency, it's still too hard to pick up. After warming it up, it was good. I imagine in the summertime or in a warmer climate, this wouldn't be an issue.

I haven't still got to the sugaring itself, but I already made the wax. My first batch got way too hard (lollipop, lol), but I got clever and combined it with a new, undercooked batch and now it's perfect concistency. I recommend this to everyone, just use a big enough glass container and heat the first one (double boiled) so the lollipop melts and you're able to mix them. Thank you for these videos, the instructions are so clear and easy to follow.

I was panicking about my wax before I saw this video, and what I did to fix it was add like 1/3 tbsp of lemon juice and 1/3 tbsp of water and then microwave it for 20 seconds. Thank you sooo much abetweene ❤ for sharing your knowledge on sugaring🍯. I literally watched every single video on your sugaring playlist and now I sugar my whole body. ✨🍯 As she says the color is not really important. Coz the first time i tried it at my moms place (higher altitude,temp is really cold) the firm ball of sugar was really light in color. Whereas, when i tried it the day before (lower altitude,the day was lil warmer) the firm ball of sugar was golden ! The climatic condition does affect the firmness of the sugar paste. I always try the cold water test to check the consistency. This is my third time sugaring, and i think this time it was less messier than the previous times. I was able to handle the sugar ball properly. I just cant thank her enough, coz i hated shaving and using creams that have chemicals. I now sugar my legs, arms, armpits and give myself a brazillian😻. My skin is soooooo smoothhh ✨🍯🎉 Im Never going back to razors 🪒 👎.

I over cooked my sugar wax just a tad bit and it’s difficult to manipulate..so I’m just gonna put my wax on a candle warmer or a wax warmer and use it as a strip wax. My advice is DO NOT LEAVE THE STOVE WHEN YOU ARE MAKING THIS. I literally walked away for maybe 2 minutes and it was over cooked.
@karineandrade98214 жыл бұрын
Hi ladies, I just wanted to share that I managed to fix my hard sugar (over cooked) by adding a bit of water but I noticed that was not enough, as it was liquid with the consistency to use with strips, but was not "glueing" well, or better, taking the hair. To solve that, I added a bit of acid (vinager) and returned to the microwave to warm up. I cooked it again for 1-2 minutes but stoping every 30 secs just to check and doing the test on cold water, to check it. I managed to fix it, so it's possible but you will need a bit patience. :)
@abetweene4 жыл бұрын

I didn’t make mine, I bought it on Etsy because I didn’t trust myself. It’s barely even possible to get it out of the container without heating it up but then like three minutes into using it it’s melting all over my legs and sticking to me. Is it something I’m doing or just the wax?

I have a weird situation. I have tried twice to make sugar wax, and both times, I thought I got a good consistency. But as soon as I start trying to wax, I get maybe 2 good flicks in, and bam. It has liquified. I have made sure to be in a cool environment and powdered skin. Wondering if changing the sugar or lemon juice to different brands or freshly squeezed lemons will help?? Would kneading the wax help with this??
@abetweene3 жыл бұрын
cook it longer. it sounds like although you have successfully made a sugar paste, its a little shy of the right type for you. so you may have achieved soft consistency rather than firm.

I think I'm in the soft crack stage, I'm just guessing cuz this is my second time trying it,, i definitely did but i overcooked I'm sure, or maybe the sugar is too much bcs I don't have measuring cups,, the first time i tried, the sugar turned into that hard crack, and stayed on my pot and it definitely took an effort to remove it, that's why i never tried again,, i hope i can salvage this soft crack so that i can stil use it , at least now i know I'm improving thanks to your tutorials ❤️

just add a little water and reheat enough to combine. any remaining sugar stuck to the pot, even if it becomes hard, can be melted with warm water, so just boil water in the same pan.

Every time I try to make strip sugar, when I warm it in the microwave just long enough to get it to the runny consistency I desire, it’s too hot to apply to the skin. Then by the time it’s cooled off enough it’s a soft wax consistency. I tried the threading stage trick and it isn’t working for me. Maybe if I added a little water when I microwaved it when warming? Any other suggestions?
