I’d still put myself in the novice category when it comes to engine tuning, but I’ve always had a keen interest. I got myself a MegaSquirt 1 ECU kit in the early 2000’s, purely the learn more about how these things work. I was put on to Emtron by a tuner friend that had been using them for a while and have been really surprised about how much capability they have. This podcast was super interesting and makes me appreciate the Emtron products even more knowing how they’ve been created and developed. I’m also super keen to see how the development of their DI products progress, for very selfish reasons!!!

i cut my teeth on Megasquirt and i think i was at a novice level when i was playing with my MS equipped car. i haven't tuned on my car since 2007 and it's been sitting in the garage since then. i will dust it off soon and upgrade to to newest Megasquirt and learn all over again. i think a good ECU should come with easy to read, clear and concise instructions and a glossary of each function and table. that way a young tuner can grasp the understanding of what he is looking for, what changes he's making and why. great podcast HPA💪

Glad you like them, we'll keep them coming 😎 They come to YT a bit later than the audio platforms via the link above if you ever want to keep a bit ahead on them - Taz.

I think you’re referring to Scott’s voice here and I’d agree. There were a few areas in particular where it was difficult to pickup exactly what he was saying.

Using pressure differential to estimate air mass flow is honestly genius.

When I started to move away from carbs on a small capacity 4 cyl power unit that was not that different in bore/stroke to a early 80's motor bike, the problem was finding a ecu that had enough break points in the RPM scale, most seemed to have 30 odd, we needed 125 as it turned out. Also optimising the ign. on the test bench resulted in one setting when held at a steady state then would give more power with more advance depending on transient ramp rate. The Italians had the knowledge that I needed Steep old learning curve

Swapping the ECU from another car or bike was an option?
@gothicpagan.6663 жыл бұрын
@@jareknowak8712 Would of saved many £££ but no, we were experimenting too much for that. Double injectors, individual cylinder fly by wire throttle and individualy variable air intake length. Each of the 8 injectors has a full page map to it's self including injection phasing. Took 2 weeks on the dyno bench for mapping initially 👾

Sounds like an absolute ball-ache but also an absolute ball of a project all at the same time haha Can't imagine the amount of knowledge you walked away with from it 😎 - Taz.

Love this, and it solidified my thoughts that the big guns in the ECU world were using FPGAs. As an embedded Controls hardware engineer it is so cool. I would love to know the actual FPGA they used. I would love to dip my toes in the world and use a Xilinx Zynq more horsepower than it needs but very expandable

I love this series of podcasts but to be perfectly honest it sounded like he was in the bottom of the cooking pan. Made it very distracting to absorb the content nevertheless I want to hear more.

I would live to build an open hardware and open software ECU without any surveillance built in. Even if made to certain specs, without trackers built in they'll likely make it illegal.

There are already a handful of open source ecus out there.
