Bond (Brosnan) was genuinely saddened that Q was retiring. For all their verbal jousting, Q and Bond had a great friendship and affection for one another. This scene was in truth quite a poignant one, as it marked Desmond Llewellyn's final appearance as the curmudgeonly genius Q. Nobody did it better. 18 Bond films. From Russia With Love all the way to The World is Not Enough. Desmond owned this role. John did what he could and did the part well for Die Another Day. A theory I saw in a different form that could explain the constantly changing faces of Bond(in most of the franchise) is that James Bond became a legend identity. Connery's Bond would be the original 007, and each one afterward took on the identity to keep the legend alive, with the original coming back in Diamonds Are Forever. Makes things easier for the missions. A nearly immortal operative that no enemy truly knows the original face of. Just a fun thought.
@ch4z_bucks7 ай бұрын
This theory kinda falls apart though as each bond references the other to some extent. Lazenby reminiscing on Bond's missions when he leaves MI6 in OHMSS, Connery going out for revenge in the beginning of Diamonds are Forever, Moore getting uncomfortable at the mention of Teresa in The Spy Who Loved Me. For Dalton and Brosnan, Q mentions having worked with Bond for a long time, Die Another Day has a massive reference to Connery Bond when Brosnan asks if the jetpack from thunderball still works. Dalton Bond also had a very strong friendship with Felix Leiter that wouldn't make as much sense if it was multiple agents who'd taken the same name over the years.
@greencello59923 күн бұрын
@ch4z_bucks I said it was a theory in a different form. With each new Bond actor comes changes to the continuity. If the franchise were a continuous thing from the start, something like the theory I mentioned could work. Not exactly, but a form of it.
