"She’s waiting for you…” Bond puts an end to Renard’s plans in THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH (1999) by skewering him with a plutonium rod. To give the appearance of the submarine sinking, it was flooded by lowering the whole set slowly into the water tank at Pinewood.

The novel actually states that this is Renard's final moments, as the bullet in his head is almost at his central cortex; hence why he says "I'm already dead".
@GranTruismo4head
@GranTruismo4head 3 жыл бұрын
Well you do have to remember he did get a bullet in his head by 009 a few days after Elektra escaped from Renard and the other kidnappers, and the bullet was in his head and still was when he died, either way he was gonna die somehow. He sort of does finally resign to the fact she’s dead and is waiting for him wherever she is. At least his true last one liner “Welcome To My Nuclear Family” felt almost like a pun but also true since he was going to irradiate all of the Bosporus as well as destroy Istanbul as one final Renard “The Anarchist” sort of ordeal.

This Bond feels no angst nor melancholy. He shoots a woman he had feelings for dead in her chest and then dispatches her partner with even less feeling. It wasn't the rod that killed Renard. It was that arctic gaze of utter hatred that Brosnan shot at him.

I like that for a few seconds you see that Renard knows its all over and there's a slight smile. He doesn't care by that point. I would have liked to have seen them do the alternate ending where Elektra survived and Bond visits her in the institiution.
@UltimaKeyMaster
@UltimaKeyMaster 2 жыл бұрын
I dunno, not sure I like the idea of that ending. The movie itself seems to say it was never Stockholm Syndrome, that Elektra took control of her situation and seduced Renard, something that's clearly present here. It'd be weird to put her in a place like that as if she still suffers from that like she didn't 100% choose to be a villain. It would have come purely out of left field with how much she controls through the entire movie.

That's why I said "Bond Actors." Goldeneye and Casino Royale are great films. But you have to agree that the Brosnan and Craig are a bit rough around the edges. Craig acts meaner and has a dark stare (which he got rid of in subsequent films). Broz seems a little stiff in some scenes. Compare the scene when M is talking to Bond in her office from Golden eye and the deleted scenes of M's office in The World is Not Enough. You can tell the Broz knows what he is doing now.

While we each have different tastes (I like Skyfall more than Casino Royale), the movies that end up in the public Consciousness usually happen to be the third film. COMMANDER Bond.... He knows the inside of a submarine pretty damn well. THE LOOK ON RENARDS FACE... He’s like, damn how the hell did you know how to do that.. And not only that, what Bond said to him at the last second, “She’s waiting for you”. Bond is a legend for this scene right here. Renard wanted to make it personal, and Bond took it to a whole completely different level of personal. When they both exchanged faces, you can just see how cold Bond really is. 007, Ladies and Gentlemen.

Yet still this makes more sense than the entire pre-title sequence, the villain's backstory about having a bullet in his brain still moving and slowly killing him as well as M's entire...well...character in this movie. Old mother M and the family MI6 drama they wrote in this movie are vomit-inducing garbage. Some ex-hostage woman asks to see the head of MI6: Head of MI6: Who? No. Obviously f***ing not. Elektra: But I want you to fly out here and hang out with me :( Head of MI6: Get Interpol to detain and question this raving woman. How does she even know who I am? James Bond *bursts into M's meeting*: I've got a bone to pick with you M! Head of MI6: Security, arrest this agent and have him fired immediately. *James Bond gets arrested and fired*

@@AD-kv9kj M and Elektra were well-acquainted prior to the events of the film. M was responsible for handling Renard's ransom demands in exchange for Elektra when she was taken hostage. Due to M's mismanagement of the situation, it led to Elektra being detained by Renard longer than she should have been. M admitted that she felt guilty and likely visited Elektra multiple times after she was finally rescued. These details were explained in the film.

It frustrates me when conversations about great Bond villains arise, there’s a snobbiness about how Renard is a lesser villain because it turns out he’s carrying out Elektra’s plans. First of all - Red Grant, Emilio Largo, Dr. No were all followers of Blofeld. I think they all still have their values and are some of the more iconic baddies. A lot of the time, villains working towards a ruthless goal for a grander purpose makes for a more compelling villain. And secondly, he’s one of the only villains, if not THE only villain whose motivation was actually love, no matter how twisted that is, it adds a layer to him.

Bond literally has to put saving the an entire region from nuclear explosion/fallout just cuz his love interest Denise is drowning... i'd probably do the same lol if it was Denise Richards

Well, she's his designated shag for the end of the film, so what else is he to do?

It´s a typical trait for bond, that he can´t let anything happen to the women he protects. It´s a trope that was even present in the novels, so I don´t know why people say brosnans bonds aren´t based on the source material. They defiently are. In this case, bond´s need to protect the women is his near tragic flaw.

Most Flaws of Villian they Play-Toy Around with the Protagonist(That being Bond in Such Case) Rather than finish them whilst they have the opportunity.

And that is fine by me, I love not so serious James Bond. At least they’re entertaining, where as half of Craig’s films are a chore to sit through, the other half (AKA Casino Royale, Skyfall and a fair bit of No Time To Die) are fantastic though.

Instead of Renard originally succumbing to death and ultimately remaining true to his character, would have been far better for him to play dead/regain consciousness just after Bond and Jones leave. Afterwards he removes the impaled rod and attempts to recore before the original inadvertent submarine explosion sequence.
