It's amazing to me that some people still think that they can still drive the same way in bad winter weather like they can in the summer. A car and truck are tools but YOU are the BRAIN.

Exaclty, the AWD OR 4WD capabilities of a vehicle isn't a guarantee it handles better than a FWD, the handling of a vehicle in bad wether comes down to the driver using his/her brains, i blv our last bad winter day in saint louis fell to a Friday and i had not check the weather until my job was trying to close early, i had my 03 corolla and i am very sure i was probaly one of the few pple that made it home in 12 inch of snow, all i did was drive as slow and take it easy on the gas, while every one was either slidding or skidding or cldnt climb hills and half of the city cldnt make it home by getting stuck on the highway, i drove 24miles of bad weather going in between stuck cars and trucks on a FWD without issues. Even tho i left work at 2 and made it home at 6 for a 24miles trip cos the whole place was blocked even city access roads.

The semi truck drivers are just thankful to be alive and hopefully none were in their way and got injured or worse.. Afternoons after the traffic melts off some of the snow and ice is better for truck drivers after they all drive to work.. less traffic in the afternoons.. Sometimes it's just wiser to say to the dispatch I'm waiting for the road to clear unless there's some emergency for the contents of my load it's cheaper to just wait out the road conditions that are more harzardous.. And everyone lives to see another day.

In many provinces here in Canada, the use of winter tires is mandatory and the penalty for getting caught without them is a fine until $300,00 plus costs.
