Thanks for this series, I'm really enjoying it. A question though, why do we need to validate PBR? Are a few spots red okay? What's the problem if you have those red spots in your albedo? As much as a detailed answer would be appreciated, I'll still be happy understanding a basic reason as to why we should be doing this because this is the first time I've ever heard of it.

I also want some more in depth explanation on this. Unfortunatly the Substance Desginer docs don't tell much.
@TinyJustice4 жыл бұрын
this please. I have followed it this far and have just a few pixels of red i can't get rid of no matter what I do. Is that going to completely break the texture? What is the issue this causes?
@HandsomeDragon3 жыл бұрын
For those experiencing the "red spots" in the PBR Node, those are coming from the Dirt Node we added and Blended together with our overall color map. To fix this we can do a few things. Please Read: 1) We can either use the gradient node that;s between our Dirt & Blend Node to darken the white tonal range. Bringing the harsh values down. 2) We can use a levels node to change the values (but since the Gradient Node is already there, just use the Gradient Node). 3) Add a blur node to diffuse the noise. I used a low setting. 4) The easiest one, go to the Blend Node that's using the Dirt Noise, and lower the Opacity of the Subtraction Mode. With it set high it's going to appear harsh in tone, lowering the opacity will fix that. If you're still getting red Spots, go to the Gradient Node and lower the white range. And to be extra sure there's no red spots, set your 2D panel to view the Red Channel only. Now Red spots will appear White and everything else is black. Sometimes trying to find Bright red spots in bright green can be hard to spot since both colors are super bright. There is a PBR Albedo Safe Node, which you can plug your gradient in and then plug that into the PBR BaseColor, but I'm a super beginner and I'm not sure if that's a fix, or will bring consequences along our learning part. If Adobe could comment on this, that would be awesome. Thank you for these tutorials!

is the red point something bad

I'm a little confused and just want to verify this. So the reason we blend all of the noises together at the start is because our height map doesn't have enough information by itself for the gradient map to work with?
@Substance3D5 жыл бұрын
It's just adding more nuanced details to work with. Variation is key : )

Is there an alternative image viewer to Kuadro, that will perform a similar gradient capture function with Substance? V0.9.5 fails in Mac OS Ventura (I realized that's a big step from High Sierra)
@ericpowell28503 ай бұрын
For anyone having this issue more recently, I worked around it by dragging an image file into the graph and selecting to import it. You can then use the color picker over the 2D view of the image and delete the image afterward.

What is the point in getting some really nice tones with the gradient picker only to wash them all out with the Levels node so that the PBR checker goes green?
@adamplechaty5 жыл бұрын
I am completely lost when it comes to blending modes. I know ppl refer to Photoshop, but the names and their function still confuses me greatly. Is it one of the things you just need to experiment with for a long time to get it right eventually? Because right now I just have to blindly follow along when it comes to this particular thing.
@IvisibleCat5 жыл бұрын
Same for me. Maybe have to do some research. Otherwise its just experimenting and experience i guess..

Ouch. I got to this point in the training and was having a blast. Then Adobe issued the 2020.2.0 patch and my project is borked. Upon opening the file, Substance tells me there are 4 problems that have to be "fixed" before the file can be opened. And the result is a completely flat plane (hi res). It has gray-scale information but no longer displays any height. I have no idea what to do, short of starting over. I sent a bug report but I doubt anything will come of it.
@Substance3D4 жыл бұрын
Hi Roland, this is completely normal and nothing to worry about. These "fixes" are not due to problems, it's Designer updating your files to support the latest major features we've added. It is unrelated to your flat height issue. Designer is a bit forgetfull about the displacement setting, especially when you restart the program you have to set this up again (it defaults to off). In the 3D View, simply go to Material > Default > Edit, then find the Scale setting under height, and increase it, like you've done earlier in this video series. It's best to get very familiar with this setting, as you often need to tweak this when working with height. Good luck!

So my normal map looks waaay less detailed for me than in your version. While the height looks good and detailed. There is nothing in between. What's going on?

There is an intensity parameter on the normal node. Did you increase this value? This will make the normal map strength much more intense.
@Fengtos4 жыл бұрын
@@Substance3D yes the intensity is already at 3. I didn't see him change that at any point or did I miss that? i.imgur.com/iLAOBt9.png This the curvature smooth plugged into the normal .I don't see any twigs and the contrast is way higher in the tutorial.

Not the most intuitive way to add color to the result, especially for a beginner. It's good to know that these nodes exist though.
