Man now that you said that. Its kinda true. It could be in any Castlevania game. But hey! I believe that Castlevania has even better soundtracks than this one. Prayer of a Tragic Queen. and many others are better. But Filmore is stellar as well.

The buildup to this song is incredible. Moving your sky palace, talking to your little angel helper, and then falling to earth to inhabit the waiting statue below. Even the boss music was just right. Actraiser might be one of the best SNES games there is. It has everything. Strategy play, "pseudo"-3D stuff, engaging story and gameplay with replayability, sidescroller action, rad graphics and bosses, absolutely top notch music ... i mean what else could you ask of an SNES game from that early era??

From a gameplay perspective, I tend to favor Soul Blazer over Actraiser but man... It's only by a hair. Actraiser is still one of the most unique gaming experiences possible, and has that god tier soundtrack the likes of which only Uematsu could compete with on the SNES.

+EternalBooda Sometimes I wonder about the limitations that the NES/SNES sound chips had, and whether the restrictive nature of them is what forced a lot of the musical talent of these composers to shine through. You had to get clever to make something sound good. Then when things went fully orchestral, I think a lot of that ingenuity died because things were suddenly left too open. It was like pouring a cup of musical talent espresso into a bucket of possibilities. Some of the composers were able to make the transition, while others faded into relative mediocrity. I think the real talent in modern video game composing lies with the people who are able to do re-arrangements of classic tracks that still maintain the right feel and flavour of the originals. One great example is Yoko Shimomura, composer and re-arranger for the music in the Kingdom Hearts series, as well as the forth coming Final Fantasy XV. She is a master of faithful re-arrangements. Addendum: In the case of Ys: Books I and II (widely considered to have one of the greatest soundtracks of all time) the music was composed by Yuzo Koshiro. However, he only composed the original chiptune versions of the tracks, while the awesome orchestral stuff you hear in the PC Engine version of the game were re-arrangements created by Ryo Yonemitsu. So at the end of the day, was it the musical genius of Yuzo you are hearing, or is it the transformative genius of Ryo that REALLY made that music?
@tpj6988

+SeafoamSmiles Although there is no scientific proof or anything like that I really have to agree with everything you say. Those restrictions somehow forced musical talents out of all those composers...

So much awesome music on the SNES. It blew the Genesis away in that respect.

When I think of an epic battle of Heaven vs. Hell, angels vs. demons, good vs. evil.........naturally the first thing that comes to mind is a funky bassline.

@Connman555 lol, im just wondering, how did Square Enix obtain the rights for Actraiser? l know that Enix published the games and had a strong partnership with Quintet, but ever since the merge of Square Enix the company Quintet has been mysteriously silent and non-active since 2002, bit of a coincidence.

As a reminder that Nick Arcade is streaming on Paramount Plus, The WIzard's Challenge for ActRaiser is 1500 Points in Fillmore. You have 30 Seconds. This is what you hear!

Korone would only need 20 seconds to get that score.

This is Pharo - mans theme in Mega Man 4 Minus Infinity. Exept!!! In Mega Man 4 Minus infinity, there's an exrtra drum layer and some other stuff. AKA, sending it through the MM4 soundtrack
