It’s funny because before Oli explained it, I thought it was about depression and drug use, now I realize, they all blend into each other
@MotionlessKnight4 жыл бұрын
Definitely. I listened to this song a lot this month. I was almost 18 when my dad passed away on Nov 6th, 2008, and it totally screwed my emotions up to where I can't even process tragic events like a normal person to this day. Whenever I get tragic news, my brain just doesn't know what to do. I find it very hard to cry or mourn. That, mixed with other various things that fuel my depression, make this song very relatable to me. Its one of my favorite songs now.

Having your friends acknowledging your depression instead of ignoring it / disappearing when you're having an episode / or even telling you to snap out of it is so, so important even just to start therapy. It's difficult to get out of a dark place if you feel like there is no way out.

Oliver sykes is just a genius at creating and contributing to art while staying neutral and unique, specially these days when other creators become too lazy to write and sing their own shit since copying the same mixes is lot lot easier. I love how he always manages to find something else to express is art in a unique way, his ideas are something to consider. He always left you satisfied. One of the best aritsts of the decade. No doubt.

"Numbness to tragedy" is definitely a surefire way to describe how shit's been going down recently. I personally have gone through some absolute bullshit the past few months that have led to me finally deciding to up the intake of my antidepressants... after a lot of arguing with my mom because of me being hard-wired to never ask for help, even if I actually do need it. (The condensed version of events are - An old friend of mine revealing that they had been emotionally abused and falsely accused of sexual assault by their ex who is a famous cover artist and that this had been ongoing FOR FIVE YEARS, my seasonal depression kicking in and then THAT getting worse when my father got hospitalized due to pancreatitis. Combined with that I live in the middle of my country's capital which is a breeding ground for Covid...) It certainly feels like at this point I've been crying so much that my eyes just hurt and I don't feel fucking human anymore.

Well done getting your own help, I'm in a surprisingly similar situation and that first bit of asking for extra help is so fucking hard when ya in that state It's been 4 years since my situation kicked off, and the numbness doesn't disappear, but it does change into something else that helps you be stronger cos you know you've survived worse shit than what's to come. You got this mate

Many bands often sing "Do you know what it's like to be alone?" to their lyrics, sometimes gloatingly (not counting songs like waltz Moore which is about the rageful lack of understanding from fans) But Bmth just says "I know you feel alone"

Depression is also an addiction. People go around saying it's a dumb fad, when in reality your body gets addicted to the chemicals releases when depressed. It's an easier chemical to obtain than serotonin nowadays too.
