Excellent video. Thank you! I have an '04 Freestar 3.9. Going to school online so I need to do the work myself. I think that I pay better attention to details than some of the shops. I actually really love this van and want it to last as long as possible. It is nice to see exactly where to go. I am sure it is a pain to get the camera in some spots but it is nice to see exactly what is going on and get pointers. TY!

They’re great vans if you take care of them. Mine had just over 275k miles when I sold it.

I just fixed my 2005 Freestar. Rough idle, power loss, stall etc. P2195 and P2197 (O2 lean) codes. I didn't change the O2 sensors as it is unlikely both sensors failed at the same time. It turned out to be the IAC solenoid was seized. I connected it with alligator jumpers to 12 V and it wouldn't move. I washed it with throttle body cleaner and hit it with some lube and it started to move. Engine runs well again. I cleared the codes and nothing has come back since. As a preventive step I did the cowl gasketing and checked out the PCM connector. I hope that this may help someone else trying to debug all these sensors and valves. Thanks for posting.

D.Comeau Custom Knives glad to hear you got it running well again. The arms from the IAC solenoid on mine had broken off, and I JB welded them back on prior to this. Great suggestion on things to check!

Have the same problem now, it's also saying sensor problems in the dash but that's not mechanical it's stalling only if it's a tight turn but it's def misfiring

Hey bro, I have a 2005 freestar, and I had that.same valve chatter noise, What you need to do to stop that and prolong your engine life, is to change your oil pump, what a difference it makes. I coild not beleive how great my 05 fteestar ran when I replaced the oil pump and no more valve noise, period.

Great tip, thanks for the update! This vehicle is long gone, but good to keep in mind if I run into it with a future vehicle.

I’m having this exact issue when I hit the beltway or a hill it drags at like 20/25 mph and jerks a lot..... then randomly picks up..... went to auto zone and they said it was my oxygen sensors I need 3..... I have an 05 ford freestar

They should be able to tell you which you need to replace based on the codes, although at that point you should just go ahead and replace the 4th while you're at it.

Omg yeah I need to replace it all cause on my way to work the jerking and shaking was driving me crazy smh
@drew6576 жыл бұрын
You may consider replacing the ignition coil pack while you're in there. It's not terribly hard to get to while you've got the cowling off, and when it fails it can cause misfires that give funky O2 sensor readings. I've had to replace mine twice in the year I've had this van (3 times actually, the first one I got failed after 500 miles and had to be replaced on warranty), and it's only like $50 so it's cheap insurance. edit: After reviewing my video, I see that I talked about the coil pack at the end.

Greetins Drew. I experienced this same problem with my 05 Ford Freestyle, I replaced alot of parts. EGR, THROTTLED BODY, FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR, COMPUTER, FUEL PUMP & FILTER, EVAP CANISTER, COIL. Now. When tank is full it shudder while driving and shuts off at the stop lights at time. But when the tank is 75 % full it drive great. No issues. Do you have any clues on why the car only does this with a full tank of gas?

I have a 2004 Ford Freestar With a Bad miss but no codes any Ideas

Weird that it’s not throwing any codes. Usually it’ll throw a misfire code and tell you which cylinder bank it’s on regardless of what’s causing it. Check the basics: spark (plugs and coil pack), compression (compression or leak down test), fuel ratio (clean the injectors, check for vacuum leaks). When I got my van it ran really poorly at idle/low throttle/taking off from a start because it had a few large vacuum leaks.

These will run rough if the camshaft synchronizer is failing and it will not throw codes . Although you might here screeching /chatter

Hi I have a 05 ford free star and I need to replace the 02 sensor from bank 1 sensor 1do yo know which one is that .
@drew6575 жыл бұрын
juan gonzalez It’s been quite a while since I owned and worked in this vehicle, but a few seconds of Google searching reveals that cylinder bank 1 is the firewall-side of the engine, and sensor 1 will be the first one after the headers. So it is the one to the left of the freeze frame at 5:23. A previous commenter complained that they didn’t know what they were looking for in this frame, if that’s the case then you should take your vehicle to a mechanic to have this done. Here is a pic where I highlighted the bank 1 oxygen sensor 1 noted in the freeze frame. imgur.com/a/UuEVku0

You will find literature stating to NOT use any grease in O2 sensor connectors, as SOME newer sensors get their biasing air THROUGH the wiring! Crazy right?

There she is at 5:35? Where she is? It's like playing where's Waldo if you don't know what you are looking for and are using KZbin because you do not know what you are looking for.

I would assume if you’re taking on this job yourself, you’re also using other resources or at least have a general idea of what you’re looking for. It’s the thing coming out of the exhaust pipe on the bottom left that looks just like the ones I just showed immediately before this shot. imgur.com/a/UuEVku0

Where is 02 bank 1 sensor 2
@drew657 Жыл бұрын
Bank 1 is the side of the engine with cylinder 1, in this case it looks like it's the side closest to the windshield. Sensor 2 will be the oxygen sensor farther downstream in the exhaust, usually past the catalytic converter. Which is lucky, because it's easier to get to. www.fixya.com/cars/t25534919-firing_order_2006_ford_freestar

@drew6576 жыл бұрын
My van used to do that, it died in the middle of an intersection a few times. The problem I found was a series of vacuum leaks. There's a lot of vacuum lines under the hood, so it may be difficult to hunt it down. Search on KZbin for ways to find vacuum leaks, the easiest is to put a straw on a can of carb cleaner and spray it at different sections of hose and connections. If the idle speed goes up when you spray a section, you've got a vacuum leak there, it's sucking in and burning the carb cleaner. Have a fire extinguisher handy.

kbeezyification if you’re don’t have one, pick up a code reader to see what it says it needs, and then do some diagnostics to figure out what parts it needs. Pretty easy to spend more than the value of the van throwing parts at it.

kbeezyification The mosquitoes will carry you away here in TX. IIRC that little box moves secondary air flaps in the throttle bodies. Mine was broken and disconnected too, and it ran much better when I got the arms hooked back up
