You know not sure if its worth the savings to buy the less wanted and more troublesome earlier models as we need to remember that the resale will be substantially less so any initial savings will also be there when sold at a lower value

The worst thing anyone can do to one of these 996s is not drive them. Bad idea.

this is SO TRUE! Everyone that has had major issues with these was because they drove them as if they were ford model t's on ice and every now and then, which allowed the synthetic fluids to turn into a corrosive, causing damage beyond repair.

Yes,yes that's is true the major problem is the ims from not driving it hard do not look at a Porsche with low miles it will give you repair problems in the future

hope it is less than that! ... a Turbo model from that era can be had for that price range, and the Turbo engine doesn't explode like the C4S engine (IMS bearing failure).

I just purchased a 2003 C4S, one-owner with only 15k miles for $38k and it's an absolute blast! Since a decent 996 Turbo will set you back $50-70k I think it's a great buy. And I believe only the 1998-2000 model years were affected by the IMS issue. The C4S is definitely an awesome car for the money.

Actually the post 99 models have a higher failure rate for the IMS. Yours is a ticking time bomb, especially with such low miles. The 99 had a dual row IMS bearing that has a lower failure rate. Porsche then went to a smaller single row with less load tolerance and a much higher failure rate. If you were smart, you'd take the car to get the IMS replaced immediately.

Have you had the IMS shaft bearing replaced? I have a '99 C2 and am debating on whether to spend over $2K on an aftermarket IMS bearing.
